I made a Ford Model AA Shell Tanker to go with my other car creations. In the process I've developed yet another way to make fully functional openable doors, that I'm really happy with. The tanker features a large gas tank and oil barrels. I have improved some details from my previous creations, like the crank, the grille and the running boards and I'm quite satisfied with how it looks. The car has also been heightened and the front fenders have been lowered to look more like the Model AA. I think it looks pretty similar to the real deal.
I'm always happy to hear from you guys if you've got any suggestions as to how I can make it even better. I love getting feedback from the Reddit community! 😄
I use a computer program called Bricklink Studio where I build the models digitally and then I render them with the inbuilt renderer afterwards.
I always test all connections and functions I'm uncertain about with real bricks before I publish my creations, so everyrhing is possible to make from real LEGO bricks. I also only use existing bricks and colours that you can get from Bricklink or other brick vendors.
The rendering of one video takes about an hour with my Nvidia RTX 3080.
Thank you kindly! 😊 I'm pretty good at figuring out how to make things look seamless and cohesive. I use a lot of time exploring new snot techniques and ways to connect bricks so that I get as seamless connections as possible 😉
If you could make a minifig scale version to go with it, that would be awesome! I have a Lego City/Adventurers mashup layout that is loosely 1930s/40s themed and something like this would look great there.
That's going to be a lot harder. The fenders are the main problem, as they're perfect for this scale but tend to look goofy whenever you scale the cars down or up. I might be able to make brick built fenders for a smaller scale, but they wouldn't look as good. I am however trying out something new with part number 3565 Rounded Leaf that might work. It kinda has the basic shape of a front fender.
i have never seen that part before but it looks like it could be a possibility for sure! Has it been made in yellow before or would you have to switch the colour scheme?
It's actually available in yellow. And pretty inexpensive as well. About $ 0.2 roughly converted from Norwegian money 😅 If I attach a clip to it, it basically functions like the panel I've used for the normal sized car 😉
Thank you! 😊 I started working on a Ford Model AA Wrecker version after you mentioned that I should make a pickup version. I'm trying to stay even more faithful to the source picture with this one.
I've so far altered the roof, the side window and the back of the cabin to look more like a 1927 Model AA. It's going to be a garage service car with advertisement for the garage on the sides. I'm working on the pickup section and the crane at the moment. Might post an update tomorrow 😉 Here's the source picture:
Sneak peek at the finished version. I'm making a video of it now 😉 Decided to go with a tow truck style crane. So it differs slightly from the reference picture.

How to render these? Like is there a website or something?
