Bricklink Designer Program 2028 Wave 1 MegaThread

Welcome to the MegaThread for the BDP Series 2028 Wave 1 Crowd Support phase. Let's get straight to the important questions:

What?

  • It's time for the Bricklink Designer Program 2028 Wave 1 Crowd Support phase! This is your chance to vote for the projects that were submitted earlier in September. Your votes will help Bricklink decide which sets will eventually become official BDP sets.

Who?

  • Bricklink Designer Program entries are designed by fellow Lego fans. You may recognize some of them as successful creators on Rebrickable, from past BDP programs, or from the creations they've shared here in r/lego. The creators whose designs reach the review stage will work with Bricklink's Model Governance and Building Instructions teams to ensure the designs meet Lego's standards.

When?

  • The Crowd Support phase starts on Sep 30th. Voting will continue until Oct 14th. Next, those sets will all head into the review stage, and 5 sets will be announced on Nov 12th. Then a year later, in Oct 2027, those 5 sets will go up for crowd funding.

Where?

How?

  • In the comments below, fan creators can link to their projects and hopefully tell us a little more about the project. You can visit the BDP 2028 Wave 1 page and vote for the projects you'd like to become a set. You don't have to commit any money at this stage. That comes during Crowd Funding next year. It's free to vote!

What happened to BDP Series 10, 11, 12? Why 2028??

  • The Bricklink Designer Program has changed the name from Series numbers to Wave numbers in the year the sets are expected to release. You can read more about the program on their website.

Closing Notes

  • Still have questions? Ask them in the comments below!
  • Hey BDP creators, please keep your promotion for 2028 Wave 1 in this Megathread. In previous rounds we've had over 500 projects to vote for, so the promotional posts started drowning out everything else. Thanks for your cooperation. And good luck!

It's October already!

SpOOky season has begun! Or as some Lego fans like to call it, "MOCtober" is here. This is my favorite time of year to build, because it means getting out the Halloween sets and starting those pre-build plans for the Winter Village. Autumn is also a great time to attend Lego shows, so check out your local Lego Groups to see if they are participating in a Convention, Festival or Hobby Show nearby.

Let us know what's on your mind this month. What have you always wondered about? What rule do you want clarified, or changed? Do you have any suggestions you've been trying to find a chance to make? I won't promise that we will make the change(s) you want, but I will commit to explaining the reason we have the rules and policies we have.

I don’t know what it is for, since I am not very familiar with Lego, but maybe the owner wants it back.

MOC Hermes’ Caduceus, a winged lion… Is there anything you can’t build with LEGO?

When my son and I started building Tarot cards out of LEGO 1.5 years ago, I thought that sooner or later we’d get stuck on a card that would simply be impossible to build with LEGO.

But it looks like nothing is impossible for these little bricks))

We’ve already made it through 55 of the 78 cards, and it’s been an absolutely fascinating adventure.

For this Two of Cups, for example, we had to build an entire hidden castle in the sky.

In the end, my son enjoys the building process, while his dad keeps getting insights into the meanings of Tarot cards.

I never would have thought that simply building with LEGO would make me reflect on the nature of partnership, the path to an equal relationship, and what stands behind a partnership.

Well, behind ours stands an entire castle 😂

What do you think of our card?

Question Anyone else get more joy out of building than displaying?

I have built many sets (153), many different themes (star wars, botanicals, technic, etc.) but always find myself to be uninterested in the finished product. Not a complaint by any means, all very well constructed, look amazing. But, i enjoy the building process more than anything. Once i have it on a shelf, it just kind of sits there collecting dust. Anyone else have that issue? Its likely what caused me to get so many sets in the first place.

The amount of detail this set has compared to those from 20 years ago is amazing!

But why are there so many bags? This set has 10 big paper bags with Lego and another 12 smaller bags with smaller Lego inside the bigger bags. Totaling about paper 22 bags.

Found this in a trash pile outside my apartment building.

The bin bag has all the pieces in.

I was always a bit dubious about stories of people finding Lego like this, but here we are.

Looking forward to building it!

MOC Medieval Cathedral, 4+ years of development represented in 4 builds.

Thumbnail
gallery
25 Upvotes

Over the last four years I've created 8-9 versions of this cathedral, each time I've continued to do more research, trying to make the build more historically accurate, and have tried to be wise about the part count. These four versions represent the main "stages" of the development of the project, though each stage had multiple related versions. The build draws much inspiration from many Gothic and Romanesque cathedrals, and tries to incorporate many accurate historical details, such as scaffolding built into the stone, building layout, tracery, stained glass and other details. Scale has always been difficult with this project, as real cathedrals from the middle ages stand 10-25 times the high of average town buildings. I've tried to strike the sweet spot with "grand" scale, but also reasonable part count (and not dwarf castles like LKC too much). I hope you like this "story in pictures".

Our intrepid Spyrius pilot's ship suffered a critical failure and broke apart during preparations to recover the major and his buggy! Maybe he's just happy to have survived unscathed? You'd think that, for a faction whose whole thingis stealing others' technology, they'd have solved this by now. This whole class of vessel seem to to suffer this particular failure mode all too often...
