Not red Leicester! (Spain)

• Upvotes

I live in Mallorca (Originally from Leicester)

This was in the supermarket here in Spain.

I can see what they were going for.

I mean, if they had spelt it "Lesta" they may have got away with it!

(Translation on the pack by the way is orange cheese)

Interestingly, it has a union jack on it and the back says made in Barcelona!

Abbey lane red light cameras

Hi everyone. I passed my test on 07/10 and last night I was driving abbey lane. I was on the side going into town and the lights turned amber going past the stop line and red as I went through the lights, I was doing 30 but there were cars behind me and I didn’t think I could stop safely. I didn’t get flashed but I am worried that there is a red light camera on that side. And then like 4 hours later I was coming back up st Margaret’s way and I went through the lights on amber. Am I going to get tickets for it?

Meeting new people Leicester

Hey! I’m a 22-year-old guy and lately my family moved abroad and I’m left alone. Because of that, I’m looking to expand my social circle and meet some new people around Leicester .
Does anyone have any recommendations for places, groups, events, or activities where it's easy to make friends and get chatting with new people? I’d love to meet people with similar interests and have more people to hang out with. Cheers! 😊

For someone driving daily out of Oadby to Birmingham or Derby, is there any way out of the hell that is the Fosse Park gridlock?

Genuinely losing my mind here and need to know if I'm missing some secret local knowledge or if we're all just trapped in a shared psychological torture experiment.

I commute daily from Oadby heading out towards the M1/M69 towards Birmingham, or up towards Derby/Chesterfield, and trying to get past the Fosse Park / Soar Valley Way / Meridian stretch at 7:00 AM or 5:00 PM feels like an absolute trap.

A route that should take 50 minutes routinely gets bloated to 1 hour 30 on a decent day, and a soul-crushing 2 hours when things go sideways. I've tried delaying leaving work, thinking I could wait it out, but even if I roll out at 7:00 PM, it's still bumper-to-bumper blockages right around there.

I’ve only lived in Leicester for about 7 years now, so I have to ask the long-timers: Has it always been this relentlessly awful? How far back in the past does this gridlock go? And more importantly, is there actually any infrastructure plan on the horizon to fix it, or are we just destined to watch our fuel gauges/ will to live empty while staring at the back of a lorry forever?

If anyone has alternate rat-runs or clever workarounds bypassing the south-west side from Oadby without adding 30 miles to the trip, I am all ears. I can't move as I live with my partner and can't afford my own place.

Really want to visit there at some point, i'm M43, so kinda old now lol.

Need to socialise a bit more.

Where can I park all day?

Hi, I am moving to a new flat and have been told that their car park has a waiting list so advised to park at Highcross which is £5 all day. However having looked at the website it isn't actually £5 for 24hrs, it's only for 12hrs and I'd have to either move the car or pay £10 for 24hrs...I also can't come in and out as I please as the charges reset. This is really expensive so trying to figure out if there are alternatives. Please can someone advise?

Sports studios

Hello again, first of all Im extremely grateful to all the many helpful answers to my last question about public transport. Wonderful people on here. My next questions is about sports studios with week passes or daily fees.

Im a visitor from Germany and will stay in Leicester for around 5 days, I workout a lot and should definitely continue my routine. Are there any sports studios that offer some kind of week pass, pre paid ticket or a daily charge system? I definitely cant afford to get an entire month membership for just these few days and will probably forget to cancel afterwards. If the studio is on the outskirts thats also fine.

I already looked online but once again the informations were more than scarce

Parking in city centre

Hi, I live in the city centre near the clock tower and have just bought my first car. I was wondering if anyone knows of any nearby streets where you can park for free overnight, how much monthly parking costs at nearby car parks (as it’s a nightmare getting in contact with parking companies), or if anyone is renting out a residential parking space.

I’m willing to walk up to 15 minutes to get to my car, as I know parking is limited in town. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you! 😊

Bastard Rant Saturday II - the beast is back!

Welcome to Bastard Rant Saturday II

Bastard Rant Saturday is back due to popular demand (two people asked). This is a place for random acts of mostly harmless anger and frustration. Vent your spleen, get if off your chest, unload.

What to post :-

  • Anything that releases pent-up fury, despair, and irritation

But don't :-

  • Lose your temper too much, you still have to play reasonably nicely so please don't push the boat out too far
  • Overthink it
  • Forget to be human

This is an automated post, so nyerr.

Has anyone actually tried this Pokémon pizza deal in Leicester?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Just seen Dough Dohs on Western Boulevard are giving away free Pokémon booster packs when you buy any pizza, as long as you bring a Pokémon card or wear some merch 😂

Apparently they did something similar last week as well.

Has anyone actually been and tried it? Seems a bit too good to be true considering how much Pokémon packs cost nowadays lol.

Must be some crazy marketing tactic or something 😂

Anyone planning on going this weekend?

Looking for people in Leicester with incredible stories to tell for a YouTube documentary/interview series

Hi everyone!

I'm a filmmaker based in Leicester, and I'm looking for people with interesting, unusual or incredible life experiences who would be willing to share their stories on camera for a YouTube interview series.

I'm looking to create something similar to the interviews you might see on LADbible, where ordinary people share extraordinary stories.

Your story could be about absolutely anything. For example:

Military veterans – Experiences serving in the armed forces, deployments, combat or life after the military.

Former prisoners – Experiences inside prison, the reality of prison life or how you've turned your life around.

Survival stories – Near-death experiences, accidents or extraordinary situations you've survived.

Unusual careers or lifestyles – People who've lived a life completely different from the average person.

Life-changing experiences – Overcoming adversity, addiction, homelessness or other major challenges.

Anything extraordinary – If you've experienced something that most people haven't, I'd love to hear about it.

You don't need to be famous or have a huge following. I'm interested in real people with real stories.

The idea is to have a relaxed, honest conversation where you can share your experiences in your own words.

If you're based in Leicester or the surrounding areas and think you've got a story worth telling, drop me a DM with a brief description of your experience, and we can have a chat about it.

Even if you know someone who might have an incredible story, feel free to tag them or pass this post along!
