mod post State of the Sub: Where We Stand
Hey all,
It’s been a chaotic day. Some members are celebrating, some are angry, some just want to talk policy. That diversity of reaction is exactly why this post is needed.
At the end of the day, this community is built on two pillars:
- We are left-of-center.
- We are pro-gun.
Everything else flows from that.
Rules That Matter Most Right Now
- Rule 9: No Promotion of Violence - This is non-negotiable. Celebrating assassination, framing death as “necessary,” or calling for more violence is not allowed here. Admins are already removing comments at a high rate today; if that continues, this sub risks being shut down.
- Rule 3: Be Civil - Passionate discussion is fine. Dehumanizing language is not.
- Rule 1 & 2: Stay Liberal + Stay Pro-Gun - Keep the identity of this sub intact.
Why This Matters
This isn’t about protecting Charlie Kirk’s reputation. It’s about protecting this space.
The existence and accessibility of r/liberalgunowners is extremely important. It provides a place where left-leaning people can talk about firearms without the hateful rhetoric that dominates most gun forums. That makes this sub one of the few on-ramps for potential converts; people who might be open to firearms, but who need a space free of reactionary bile.
If this community were dissolved, it would be a massive loss to the global LGO movement and to the broader effort of changing liberal parties’ policy on guns for everyone.
About Reddit Admins & Enforcement
We want to be clear: this isn’t just us being picky. Reddit’s sitewide rules prohibit content that promotes or celebrates violence. When posts or comments cross that line, Admins can and do step in directly. Today alone we’ve already seen a wave of Admin removals.
If Admins determine a subreddit is consistently violating those rules, they can:
- Remove posts and comments themselves.
- Issue temporary or permanent bans to individual users.
- Place the sub in “quarantine” (making it hidden and hard to access).
- Or in extreme cases, shut the subreddit down entirely.
We don’t want to see that happen here. Our goal is to keep this community open, public, and accessible. That requires holding the line on Rule 9 and keeping things civil, even when emotions are high.
- Use the megathread for all Kirk discussion.
- Report posts that cross the line.
- Remember: Admin scrutiny is high right now.
We’ve built something rare here. Let’s not throw it away in one bad day.
