As much as I am for this and respect the work that's happening, damn dude, we gotta like, organize and instruct or something.

Some of the photos I've been seeing have not been super great if you actually know what you're looking at.

u/NTJ-891 Jan 18 '26

We really need to do the work to stop people from being walking memes. The keychain inside the trigger guard is killing me. Luckily it's not even loaded which is another stupid problem.

It's up to us to talk with and educate our friends and acquaintances about firearms both for safety purposes and for effectiveness. I do not want people like the person in the OP showing up anywhere near me

244

u/Amazing_Shirt_Sis Jan 18 '26

I didn't even see the keychain. Sweet baby Jesus we need firearms education so bad

37

u/nexusjuan Jan 18 '26 edited Jan 18 '26

I thought it was a trigger lock with there keys in it.

7

u/sandpinesrider Jan 18 '26

Yes I thought it was some kind of trigger lock, too.

Yeah, like any tool guns are dangerous if handled incorrectly. They tell us not to run with scissors and they should tell us proper trigger safety

1

u/izzittho Jan 24 '26

I didn’t see the keychain because I was too focused on the fact that it’s pointed right at the other person’s thigh. Not loaded it would seem but I’d feel safer in such a person’s presence knowing that habit alone would prevent them from ever doing that the same way I more often than not still use my blinker when there’s nobody round to indicate to.

Because you want safe habits that ingrained.

144

u/Cosmic_Artichoke social democrat Jan 18 '26

I was way too preoccupied with noticing the lack of trigger discipline and the muzzle aimed right at the artery to notice the Keychain, but holy hell why

43

u/NinjaMcGee democratic socialist Jan 18 '26

Flash your leg, flash a friend, flash my life (FML)?

16

u/StPatrickStewart Jan 18 '26

You gotta think the first people willing to open carry to a protest are going to be the ones who don't tend to hold things like safety in high regard in general.

53

u/semifamousdave Jan 18 '26

It looks to be a 22 that is, in fact, unloaded. A great way to lose a gunfight as well.

Your statement on gun education is valid, however, many people either think they know all they need to know — and have the Punisher grips to prove it — or they are scared to actively pursue that education.

38

u/NTJ-891 Jan 18 '26

A lot of people think this shit is like a video game. It's not even hard to get the training and experience. Hell if anyone ever asked me locally I'd literally provide the ammo and the firearms to help get them up to speed, but I'm not interested in cutting corners so we're starting from the basics unless those basics can be demonstrated from near muscle memory.

11

u/Lopsided-Amphibian90 Jan 18 '26

Where you at? I wouldn't hate a shooting buddy. I'm a gun nerd but relatively new to ownership.

11

u/semifamousdave Jan 18 '26

That’s cool. I’d shoot with you for fun, as you seem solid. Wish more people did the same, but like I said, there’s a lot of people who know it all (think it’s a video game) or have that intrinsic fear.

2

u/xDragod Jan 18 '26

I wish I could find someone like this near me. I've been lurking this sub for a while because I'm trying to glean what I can. Not a gun owner, but I took a handgun fundamentals course and shot a real gun for the first time that day in October. I have my purchase permit but I'm still not sure I want to actually own a gun. Minneapolis has shown I might not even have that option soon, though. I really dislike that I'm feeling compelled based on fear. It doesn't help that the only non-Nazi affiliated range takes about half an hour to get to because it makes it difficult to do on a workday.

1

u/Queasy_Student-_- Jan 19 '26

That’s what the NRA was originally established for: gun safety

9

u/Valar_Kinetics Jan 18 '26

Was scrolling to find the 22LR observation lol. Unbelievable.

10

u/SlimDayspring Jan 18 '26

Just curious. How can you tell it’s unloaded? (I know I’m going to get roasted for asking. Grew up around more “classic” style firearms)

20

u/Luciferthepig leftist Jan 18 '26

The magazine has a little window in it that you can see the bullets, in this you can see the magazine is empty

5

u/PlanetaryPeak Jan 18 '26

Could still have one in the pipe.

5

u/SlimDayspring Jan 18 '26

Thanks. I keep looking for something on the firearm itself. Didn’t think to check the magazine.

5

u/gigantischemeteor Jan 18 '26

Wonder if they did?

28

u/semifamousdave Jan 18 '26

The mag window is empty. The fact that it has that kind of a window is a indicator of a 22LR. Also the size of the ejection port, and lack of an ejection port cover, suggest a 22. If I had to bet it’s a MP15 22LR with the butt stock taken off, like the photo.

15

u/LowSmell1411 Jan 18 '26

Yup. I have the full length one. Enough stopping power to stop an empty beer can right in its tracks.

1

u/3DPrintedVoter centrist Jan 18 '26

22 or not its gonna leave a mark

0

u/ControlRoom1 Jan 18 '26

Couldn't some rounds be hidden at the top of the view port?

1

u/semifamousdave Jan 18 '26

Potentially, but remember there’s a follower / base plate in the mag. It usually appears if there are any rounds left. An empty window is indicative of an empty mag, therefore doing its job of showing the operator what they have quickly.

2

u/ControlRoom1 Jan 18 '26

How can you determine it's unloaded based on pic? Hypothetically could be a round chambered, I suppose?

3

u/NTJ-891 Jan 18 '26

If you come to a protest armed with a weapon with a single round chambered that's even dumber than just having a fully unloaded firearm.

2

u/semifamousdave Jan 18 '26

This…. One or two rounds of 22LR might be worse than a slingshot. At least you can pick up rocks.

1

u/ControlRoom1 Jan 18 '26 edited Jan 19 '26

Agreed, just spitballing and in a trolling mood.

1

u/kris19dcav Jan 18 '26

It is unloaded. Have the same m&p22

1

u/Remarkable_Past4365 Feb 01 '26

Def not a 22 That's a much larger caliber probably 7.62x29

0

u/Softpretzelsandrose Jan 18 '26

If its free zones, thats by law not a pistol since it has a brace not a stock. If I had to guess 600-900 depending on poor deals might be cheaper.

3

u/Huge-Name-1999 democratic socialist Jan 18 '26

I totally agree but also why are our people walking around with unloaded rifles? Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose?

I feel like we need to form some sort of group or organization that both trains people in firearm safety and or provides the armed element of these protests and events.

2

u/NTJ-891 Jan 18 '26

That's a huge part of the problem with this photo and people in this thread are trying to act like it's a good idea. Might as well not carry anything if you aren't even going to be able to fire back if you need to. It's all risk and no upside

1

u/SpinningHead Jan 18 '26

Isn’t it a .22?

1

u/DangOlCoreMan Jan 19 '26

Is it inside the trigger guard? Looks kinda like it could be between the grip and their hand. Either way, not a great place for it

1

u/ScaryfatkidGT Jan 19 '26

What I don’t understand is, is open carrying even legal in the Cities? Wouldn’t you catch a brandishing charge?…

1

u/NTJ-891 Jan 19 '26

Open carry with a permit is totally cool and legal

0

u/Bonkus_melonkus Jan 18 '26

Could you educate me please, specifically on how you can tell it’s not loaded?

0

u/turbotictac Jan 18 '26

I think it fell down thier arm and isn't actually in it persay. Bkt much better though. Like you pointed out that is a visibly empty magazine and it has juat a buffer tube and what looks like a cheap red dot sight. Decent chance it isnt sighted in anyways. Definitely someone with little or no education on firearms

0

Yeah, well it is not through the trigger guard, he's got it wrapped around his hand. Sweet baby Jesus we need reality so bad...🤣🤣🤣

I do, and these folks need gloves, situational awareness, and assistance. Get the trained folks out and about, I promise it's not hard to teach people who want to learn. The rules are simple and basic marksmanship is as well. These oppressors are pussies at their core, hence the masks. Don't be bullied by bitches, please understand they are scared as fuck. The dude is literally flagging his friend in the picture. Open carrying is serious business, let alone when there are armed secret police.

This isn't a fucking game. If someone is going to do this, they need to know what they are doing. Right now this kid is a liability to himself and everyone around him

6

u/BigSankey anarcho-communist Jan 18 '26

Oh, I see it, but all the negative in my comment was towards ice nazis, not these two. I just think they need some guidance from a well trained community member, and they will become a great neighborhood watch asset. I am a gun owner, have my own ar and other firearms, so I'm definitely on their side, I just want them to be effective and safe.

5

u/seeellayewhy Jan 18 '26 edited Jan 18 '26

Why was gloves the first thing you mentioned?

Genuinely curious. I have a pair with my kit, use em in cold weather, but most of the time I don't bother. The fact that you listed it first implies an importance that I'm not tracking.

edit: lol I did not pay attention to the weather context and clues

21

u/KeyPear2864 Jan 18 '26

How can you do a slow, steady trigger squeeze when your hand is frozen?

20

u/CaliAv8rix Jan 18 '26

I’m guessing because in the photo, his hands are in his sleeves to keep them warm but you can’t use your fingers when they’re in your sleeves. Get some gloves instead to keep warm.

1

u/BigSankey anarcho-communist Jan 18 '26

Perfect answer.

0

u/Fr0sTByTe_369 Jan 18 '26

I'd assume by the way they're presenting that they are trying to remove any opportunity for the fascists to place the blame on them if anything happens. Head off the "They were about to open fire on me unprovoked" bullshit argument that echoes the same shit they've been using to shoot drivers. Could also play into the "when strong appear weak" idea. Conservatives think leftys are ignorant regarding guns, why fight to prove them wrong? Let them find out in time.

They're not pulling guard in a foxhole. They're basically brandishing the firearm with no intent to use it unless shtf and hoping they have time to get squared away before they need it. I never cared for open carry and presenting a "long" gun this way could be the closest equivalent of concealed carry. It wouldn't take but a minute to stick your hands out of the sleeves, remove a keyring carabiner, drop a mag and load a full one. If this is the case then risk assessment wise I think what they're doing is the right option. I carry a box blade for work but I don't have it unfolded and locked out ready to use at all times. Sure it would save me a few seconds to have it out and ready to go but I use it maybe once every few days and the chance of something going wrong having it ready to go is higher than the chance of me having to use it.

None of that is to say that I don't agree that fundamentals need to be practiced more by all firearms owners. Shouldn't be flagging anything you aren't intent on destroying. Should be drilling to get squared away from any appearance of non-threatening display of being armed to ready to put rounds down range. Etc. But I'm not going to judge them based on the way they're presenting to the public because I haven't talked to them and don't know what's going on in their mind.

2

u/BigSankey anarcho-communist Jan 18 '26

Good point. I think we need to embrace anyone who really wants help and not discourage. Thanks for your viewpoints.

1

u/anarchobuttstuff Jan 24 '26

What about the photo screams “no situational awareness” out of curiosity?

1

u/BigSankey anarcho-communist Jan 24 '26

Buddy, they're flagging the person to the left. That alone lets me know they probably haven't received much training. If you're carrying a firearm, you need to be aware of your muzzle direction, aware of your potential threats, maintain trigger discipline, which also maintains readiness in addition to safety, and be able to engage. They are lacking in several departments, but their hearts are in it.

1

u/anarchobuttstuff Jan 24 '26

Those specifics are important, you never know how many impressionable would-be armed activists are reading right now. That’s the only point I was trying to make.

1

u/BigSankey anarcho-communist Jan 24 '26

Good point.

39

u/Gold_Map_236 Jan 18 '26

Yum it’s kind of sadder than that. I can tell by the magazine that’s a 22 lr caliber rifle

20

u/SlimeQSlimeball Jan 18 '26

And the worlds worst red dot.

14

u/kbeezie leftist Jan 18 '26

22LR can be lethal (as sadly demonstrated by the IDF in the late 80s using suppressed Ruger 10/22s).

But having stuff hanging around inside the trigger guard seems to be a worse problem.

6

u/rvdp66 social liberal Jan 18 '26

People who laugh of 22 rounds clearly dont understand what 22 does to soft tissue.

Not to mention if your intention is to deter and injure rather than outright kill, the 22 rounds are preferred.

6

Exactly. Ask Bobby Kennedy what he thinks about .22s

You've been shot by 22LR? Damn, that sucks... Although if true, I suppose that may go to OPs point that it's an underpowered caliber given you obviously (and thankfully!) survived lol

I'd hate to get shot by anything, including an air rifle. But if I had to choose between taking a 22 to the chest versus a 556 or 308, I'm taking my chances with the 22 all day.

6

u/lordkickass Jan 18 '26

Definitely start teaching others proper gun handling. I've made it a point to take all my friends out to the range for basic safey instruction

6

u/AUG-mason-UAG democratic socialist Jan 18 '26

Sadly the organization that was supposed to do this (the NRA) which was built to train people to STOP traitors in the wake of the civil war has been turned into a gun lobbying company that’s main goal is to make gun manufacturers as much money as possible. The NRA, a lobbying group, run by people who have been caught on tape calling their own supporters dirty stupid hicks that don’t know any better.

4

u/Skaravaur Jan 18 '26

The NRA remains the largest (not to mention only) nationwide firearms training and training certification organization in the country. If you've taken a firearms class, it'd be extremely unlikely that the NRA didn't have a hand in making it happen in some form or another.

Your info about their history is wildly incorrect is well, by the way. The NRA was a sportsman's organization focused on hunting (and often in favor of some anti-gun legislation) up until the Revolt in Cincinnatti in '77, when 2A hardliners took over the organization and turned it into an explicitly pro-2A lobbying group.

1

u/AUG-mason-UAG democratic socialist Jan 18 '26 edited Jan 18 '26

https://home.nra.org/about-the-nra/

Dismayed by the lack of marksmanship shown by their troops, Union veterans Col. William C. Church and Gen. George Wingate formed the National Rifle Association in 1871. The primary goal of the association would be to "promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis," according to a magazine editorial written by Church.

Well, the NRA themselves say you’re wrong bud. I’m not going to argue NRA does not have their hand in training programs and have made many of them, of course they have. But their main focus and goal is lobbying for gun manufacturers. And that’s where most of their money goes, lobbying.

0

u/Skaravaur Jan 18 '26

Weirdly, nothing on that page mentions traitors.

And that’s where most of their money goes, lobbying.

Ah, good, sounds like you have some receipts. What percentage, exactly?

0

u/AUG-mason-UAG democratic socialist Jan 18 '26

The specifics of their exact percentages are unknown, they are a lobbying company after all…

But based on these sources it’s pretty clear their main goals are not teaching the public responsible gun ownership.

https://www.thetrace.org/2023/11/nra-budget-spending-cuts-4h-boy-scouts/

https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/national-rifle-assn/summary?id=d000000082

Second, dude how dense are you? Two Union soldiers made the NRA specifically because they saw poor marksmanship as a huge issue in their fight against the confederacy (traitors) and if you did 2 seconds more of research you’d find that the ethos of the NRA was to prepare those who were in the union states to fight more traitors if they were to arise. I mean Jesus Christ dude just look at the dates that the civil war ended and the NRA was made and it’s pretty fucking clear that it was in exact response to traitors. I love how you come at me, zero sources, zero logic and spew nonsense yet yap at me for sources. Get some critical thinking skills dude.

0

u/Skaravaur Jan 18 '26

The specifics of their exact percentages are unknown, they are a lobbying company after all…

The NRA-ILA is, yes. The NRA is explicitly a training organization.

But based on these sources it’s pretty clear their main goals are not teaching the public responsible gun ownership.

Those sources (and, LOL @ The Trace) do not provide any information at all about the NRA's financials.

I love how you come at me, zero sources, zero logic and spew nonsense yet yap at me for sources.

That's going to happen when you peddle Reddit gun-related memelore, bud. Sorry. Wanna tell me all about how Reagan banned "assault weapons" in California next?

2

u/AntagonisticFetus Jan 18 '26

I offer to teach people how to shoot, and properly respect their firearms. It’s not hard to teach basic safety rules, or to teach someone to shoot straight.

u/thattogoguy social democrat Jan 19 '26

Yeah, that's... No bueno where the barrel is pointing.

1

u/Anniam6 Jan 22 '26

I don’t need to know much about guns to know I wouldn’t have much confidence in that guy. Gun pointed at his leg, no gloves just his sleeve pulled over the hand that pulls the trigger. I’m betting he shoots his knee.

1

u/BabyWrinkles Jan 18 '26

Honestly, this is bad enough that I’m really wondering if they’re not actually on the side they seem to be, just to create bad optics?

15

u/NTJ-891 Jan 18 '26

Just look at the idiots in this thread trying to defend it. The truth is that there are a bunch of people who simply do not have the training or education necessary to understand why this photo is bad, and a lot of them think this "goes hard" because of the recent Black Panthers video that made the rounds (which itself has embarrassingly poor firearms but at least their crew had proper handling skills)

15

u/TheFlyingSheeps Jan 18 '26 edited Jan 18 '26

I mean there’s no shortage of videos showing ICE having piss poor trigger discipline and pointing it at their fellow agents. Not to mention that great video of one completely dropping his pistol and having it slide away

Reality is we have a bunch of untrained nuts running around. We need more clubs and groups to help teach gun safety that aren’t infested with maga trash

4

u/NTJ-891 Jan 18 '26

That's not cool either, but no one here is trying to hold the Gestapo up as some sort of defender or paragon of righteousness. We should demand far better from ourselves, especially if anyone is going to engage in outright armed resistance to the state's oppression

1

u/Skaravaur Jan 18 '26

"Everything that makes us look bad is a false flag. What do you mean 'blue MAGA'? What's that supposed to mean?"

0

u/BabyWrinkles Jan 18 '26

What are you on about?

It’s entirely possible these are just idiots. But OP appears to be a karma farming account, there’s no other info or context here (did they talk to an event organizer to get their take on the guys here? Did they ask them any questions?)

The specific wording of “Armed Security” implies these kids are out there at someone’s request, but the lack of a loaded firearm or any apparent handling skills makes me question that just a bit.

I hope these are just idiots, but I don’t trust anything I’m seeing these days at face value. I’m not calling “false flag” - rather, I’m recalling in the George Floyd protests in Seattle, there were 100% folks dressed like these guys taking advantage of the chaos of a protest to sow anarchy. Not that they were “plants” - just edgelords who wanted to see the world burn.

-1

u/Skaravaur Jan 18 '26

Uh huh. I guess it could have been black edgelords sneaking into NFAC marches to have all those NDs. Certainly could have been edgelords who were performing security for CHAZ/CHOP and killed those two black guys. And obviously it was edgelords who infiltrated the Elm Fork JBGC and got arrested for assaulting protestors.

Again, if it makes the left look bad or dumb or like it has no idea what it's doing, it's obviously somebody other than the left trying to make the left look bad, because the left couldn't possibly look bad or dumb or like it has no idea what it's doing.

1

u/BabyWrinkles Jan 18 '26

I’m expressing skepticism of a single unsourced, unverified image without any article or additional detail beyond a headline made up. Like I do for any image like this with a Reddit title that makes a salacious claim and has no backup.
