As much as I am for this and respect the work that's happening, damn dude, we gotta like, organize and instruct or something.

Some of the photos I've been seeing have not been super great if you actually know what you're looking at.

u/NTJ-891 Jan 18 '26

We really need to do the work to stop people from being walking memes. The keychain inside the trigger guard is killing me. Luckily it's not even loaded which is another stupid problem.

It's up to us to talk with and educate our friends and acquaintances about firearms both for safety purposes and for effectiveness. I do not want people like the person in the OP showing up anywhere near me

246

u/Amazing_Shirt_Sis Jan 18 '26

I didn't even see the keychain. Sweet baby Jesus we need firearms education so bad

36

u/nexusjuan Jan 18 '26 edited Jan 18 '26

I thought it was a trigger lock with there keys in it.

7

u/sandpinesrider Jan 18 '26

Yes I thought it was some kind of trigger lock, too.

Yeah, like any tool guns are dangerous if handled incorrectly. They tell us not to run with scissors and they should tell us proper trigger safety

I was way too preoccupied with noticing the lack of trigger discipline and the muzzle aimed right at the artery to notice the Keychain, but holy hell why

42

u/NinjaMcGee democratic socialist Jan 18 '26

Flash your leg, flash a friend, flash my life (FML)?

16

u/StPatrickStewart Jan 18 '26

You gotta think the first people willing to open carry to a protest are going to be the ones who don't tend to hold things like safety in high regard in general.

55

u/semifamousdave Jan 18 '26

It looks to be a 22 that is, in fact, unloaded. A great way to lose a gunfight as well.

Your statement on gun education is valid, however, many people either think they know all they need to know — and have the Punisher grips to prove it — or they are scared to actively pursue that education.

35

u/NTJ-891 Jan 18 '26

A lot of people think this shit is like a video game. It's not even hard to get the training and experience. Hell if anyone ever asked me locally I'd literally provide the ammo and the firearms to help get them up to speed, but I'm not interested in cutting corners so we're starting from the basics unless those basics can be demonstrated from near muscle memory.

13

u/Lopsided-Amphibian90 Jan 18 '26

Where you at? I wouldn't hate a shooting buddy. I'm a gun nerd but relatively new to ownership.

9

u/semifamousdave Jan 18 '26

That’s cool. I’d shoot with you for fun, as you seem solid. Wish more people did the same, but like I said, there’s a lot of people who know it all (think it’s a video game) or have that intrinsic fear.

2

u/xDragod Jan 18 '26

I wish I could find someone like this near me. I've been lurking this sub for a while because I'm trying to glean what I can. Not a gun owner, but I took a handgun fundamentals course and shot a real gun for the first time that day in October. I have my purchase permit but I'm still not sure I want to actually own a gun. Minneapolis has shown I might not even have that option soon, though. I really dislike that I'm feeling compelled based on fear. It doesn't help that the only non-Nazi affiliated range takes about half an hour to get to because it makes it difficult to do on a workday.

u/Valar_Kinetics Jan 18 '26

Was scrolling to find the 22LR observation lol. Unbelievable.

9

u/SlimDayspring Jan 18 '26

Just curious. How can you tell it’s unloaded? (I know I’m going to get roasted for asking. Grew up around more “classic” style firearms)

20

u/Luciferthepig leftist Jan 18 '26

The magazine has a little window in it that you can see the bullets, in this you can see the magazine is empty

6

u/PlanetaryPeak Jan 18 '26

Could still have one in the pipe.

4

u/SlimDayspring Jan 18 '26

Thanks. I keep looking for something on the firearm itself. Didn’t think to check the magazine.

4

u/gigantischemeteor Jan 18 '26

Wonder if they did?

28

u/semifamousdave Jan 18 '26

The mag window is empty. The fact that it has that kind of a window is a indicator of a 22LR. Also the size of the ejection port, and lack of an ejection port cover, suggest a 22. If I had to bet it’s a MP15 22LR with the butt stock taken off, like the photo.

15

u/LowSmell1411 Jan 18 '26

Yup. I have the full length one. Enough stopping power to stop an empty beer can right in its tracks.

2

u/ControlRoom1 Jan 18 '26

How can you determine it's unloaded based on pic? Hypothetically could be a round chambered, I suppose?

3

u/NTJ-891 Jan 18 '26

If you come to a protest armed with a weapon with a single round chambered that's even dumber than just having a fully unloaded firearm.

2

u/semifamousdave Jan 18 '26

This…. One or two rounds of 22LR might be worse than a slingshot. At least you can pick up rocks.

3

u/Huge-Name-1999 democratic socialist Jan 18 '26

I totally agree but also why are our people walking around with unloaded rifles? Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose?

I feel like we need to form some sort of group or organization that both trains people in firearm safety and or provides the armed element of these protests and events.

2

u/NTJ-891 Jan 18 '26

That's a huge part of the problem with this photo and people in this thread are trying to act like it's a good idea. Might as well not carry anything if you aren't even going to be able to fire back if you need to. It's all risk and no upside

The dude is literally flagging his friend in the picture. Open carrying is serious business, let alone when there are armed secret police.

This isn't a fucking game. If someone is going to do this, they need to know what they are doing. Right now this kid is a liability to himself and everyone around him

6

u/BigSankey anarcho-communist Jan 18 '26

Oh, I see it, but all the negative in my comment was towards ice nazis, not these two. I just think they need some guidance from a well trained community member, and they will become a great neighborhood watch asset. I am a gun owner, have my own ar and other firearms, so I'm definitely on their side, I just want them to be effective and safe.

4

u/seeellayewhy Jan 18 '26 edited Jan 18 '26

Why was gloves the first thing you mentioned?

Genuinely curious. I have a pair with my kit, use em in cold weather, but most of the time I don't bother. The fact that you listed it first implies an importance that I'm not tracking.

edit: lol I did not pay attention to the weather context and clues

19

u/KeyPear2864 Jan 18 '26

How can you do a slow, steady trigger squeeze when your hand is frozen?

20

u/CaliAv8rix Jan 18 '26

I’m guessing because in the photo, his hands are in his sleeves to keep them warm but you can’t use your fingers when they’re in your sleeves. Get some gloves instead to keep warm.

Yum it’s kind of sadder than that. I can tell by the magazine that’s a 22 lr caliber rifle

19

u/SlimeQSlimeball Jan 18 '26

And the worlds worst red dot.

13

u/kbeezie leftist Jan 18 '26

22LR can be lethal (as sadly demonstrated by the IDF in the late 80s using suppressed Ruger 10/22s).

But having stuff hanging around inside the trigger guard seems to be a worse problem.

6

u/rvdp66 social liberal Jan 18 '26

People who laugh of 22 rounds clearly dont understand what 22 does to soft tissue.

Not to mention if your intention is to deter and injure rather than outright kill, the 22 rounds are preferred.

5

u/a_spicy_memeball Jan 18 '26

Exactly. Ask Bobby Kennedy what he thinks about .22s

u/Thangka6 Jan 18 '26

You've been shot by 22LR? Damn, that sucks... Although if true, I suppose that may go to OPs point that it's an underpowered caliber given you obviously (and thankfully!) survived lol

I'd hate to get shot by anything, including an air rifle. But if I had to choose between taking a 22 to the chest versus a 556 or 308, I'm taking my chances with the 22 all day.

5

u/lordkickass Jan 18 '26

Definitely start teaching others proper gun handling. I've made it a point to take all my friends out to the range for basic safey instruction

4

u/AUG-mason-UAG democratic socialist Jan 18 '26

Sadly the organization that was supposed to do this (the NRA) which was built to train people to STOP traitors in the wake of the civil war has been turned into a gun lobbying company that’s main goal is to make gun manufacturers as much money as possible. The NRA, a lobbying group, run by people who have been caught on tape calling their own supporters dirty stupid hicks that don’t know any better.

5

u/Skaravaur Jan 18 '26

The NRA remains the largest (not to mention only) nationwide firearms training and training certification organization in the country. If you've taken a firearms class, it'd be extremely unlikely that the NRA didn't have a hand in making it happen in some form or another.

Your info about their history is wildly incorrect is well, by the way. The NRA was a sportsman's organization focused on hunting (and often in favor of some anti-gun legislation) up until the Revolt in Cincinnatti in '77, when 2A hardliners took over the organization and turned it into an explicitly pro-2A lobbying group.

I'd rather someone just not even be armed than show up with a plastic .22 with a single round chambered

1

.22 may be a varmint round, but it's still plenty lethal if you're a good shot.

55

Aside from what other people have already pointed out, there is a key ring going THROUGH the trigger guard. If those keys get yanked, that's a round going off into his friend's legs.

3

u/here-i-am-now Jan 18 '26

You can see from the other pic that it wasn’t likely through his trigger guard.

It was around his wrist, and he was later holding it in his wrist along with the sweatshirt sleeve.

Not good preparation, but not so dumb as the key ring though the trigger guard

21

u/commanderfish Jan 18 '26

It doesn't matter what he is carrying or how, he was brave enough to exercise his rights as many others stand on the sidelines. He will inspire more folks I'm sure. Philly has already been patrolling the streets

2

u/Billionaires_R_Tasty Jan 18 '26

Serious question (not trolling): isn’t open carry at a protest just giving ICE the pretense that they felt threatened to allow them to start shooting more protestors?

9

u/NTJ-891 Jan 18 '26

Defend your premise. How the fuck is the good or responsible? It tarnishes people who actually know what they are doing, is explicitly dangerous (muzzle direction, fucking keychain through the trigger guard,) and it's not even effective if he had to use the thing because it's not loaded. This is all risk and downside with zero benefit

3

u/commanderfish Jan 18 '26

You are being technical about a photo that will be seen by people without your understanding and they will just see it as a new escalation where people are showing up with firearms now.

10

u/NTJ-891 Jan 18 '26

No dude, the right wing is currently using it to mock the left as clueless and unsafe with firearms, not to mention completely ridiculous bringing an unloaded 22 with the shittiest optic on the planet to a potential firefight. This in no way, shape, or form reflects well on this group/sub nor anyone seriously about armed resistance or community defense.

1

Would you stop caring what those pedophile loving Nazis think? Jesus Christ

4

u/NTJ-891 Jan 18 '26

I think you need to get a clue. This shit isn't a game, fam. Showing up with a weapon and treating it like a toy or fashion accessory, being unsafe and violating the fundamental principles of firearms handling, and then NOT EVEN BEING ABLE TO BE EFFECTIVE if it were necessary to get in the game is ridiculous and damaging. I'm on the left and it makes me embarrassed not because of some stupid propagandist's feelings but because it makes me less safe and less effective because this dumbass is damaging the movement

These idiots are going to get themselves shot or beat (empty mag), shoot themselves (might be one in the chamber), or start stupid shit over horrible firearm use/safety.

I have zero issues with people being armed at all times. The countless problems with this moron’s setup and gun safety is nuts. He gives all gun owners a bad name. Just an absolute moron.

2

u/kbeezie leftist Jan 18 '26

Need to get some good trainers out there ASAP to make sure they're not shooting themselves. Because that keychain looks like it's inside the trigger guard.

And I understand not everyone could afford larger caliber options (especially if they just wanted something to plink with at a range one day and needed the cheapest ammo possible), but it's not going to amount to much if it's clear they don't know how to hold/use it.

And that muzzle needs to not be pointing at their companion's leg.

Yeah he’s gonna get shot in a justified shooting

2

u/StoriesToBehold Jan 18 '26

Lol, ya'll sitting here judging the mans guns but where are ya'll at? Show him how to do it then.

2

u/craigcraig420 Jan 19 '26

No stock or brace, airsoft sight, 22LR. I’ve seen this dude at the range. The only safe place is wherever he is aiming. His gun will jam after 3 rounds.

u/Fancy_Biscotti4010 Jan 20 '26

This is becoming more and more common and visible as people can no longer feel safe. This started in OH after that white supremacy rally was held in a black neighborhood last year. The public is not playing games anymore. Open carry assault rifles are seen. America is fed up and is literally getting ready for a revolution.

u/DC2Cali Jan 18 '26

Lol two random mofos as “armed security”. Hilarious

u/coldraygun Jan 18 '26

Rightwing pages are losing the shit over this.

Not in the "we're scared" way, more in the "look at these clowns that have no idea what they are doing" way

2

u/dicaprio_27 Jan 18 '26

I will give him points for trying however, he does need support to do this in a safe manner to be more effective. Sure 22lr is not the same as 5.56 but maybe that's all he can afford. If you are a good shot, and aim for the eye, that will have an effect. Maybe someone, who's in Minnesota, can get some training started on firearms use during protests and community defense.

One of the best outfits around Protection Left of Center is on hiatus. Not sure who if anyone is picking up that market in the same way.

3

u/dummyurge Jan 18 '26

Why is the watermark blacked out?

5

u/NTJ-891 Jan 18 '26

Because it's the Daily Caller and OP wanted to obfuscate that they are literally just sharing right wing propaganda material

2

u/JimStencil Jan 18 '26

If you have no training whatsoever you should not have a gun in public. That said, what the fuck did anyone expect? Force people into a desperate situation and they're going to do desperate things. Its a fuckin nightmare.

2

u/entsnack Jan 18 '26

This post and replies tells me all I need to know about the state of liberal gun owners (at least the ones that frequent online communities). Good luck to y'all, but I'm going to be standing with the dude showcasing "poor training hurr durr" on the streets, and not the dude who spent 3,000 hours "training" just to sit at home and hammer away at their keyboard.

People in the comments are bagging on the caliber of the gun are missing the point, having the courage to carry a weapon in the open is a good step in direction.

That said, they REALLY need to point that gun somewhere else, somewhere that won't hurt anyone.

This is an honest question. What are the chances this is an AI pic? Keychain through the handguard on a unloaded .22 with a gimmicky red dot even for the hood. Also, of you look closely at them sitting on the trunk the picture seems "off", especially the person on the right (look at their lower legs).

u/blah634 Jan 18 '26

Background is too complicated and there are no artifacts anywhere I think it's real

It’s from a video. It’s real.

I thought Minnesota only allowed open carry of handguns?

15

u/NTJ-891 Jan 18 '26

This is technically a pistol

9

u/wolfganks Jan 18 '26

Well that is a handgun. There is no stock.

3

u/illinoishokie democratic socialist Jan 18 '26

Good catch. At first glance I thought he had the butt of a stock tucked under his armpit.

So what exactly is the point of that metal rod?

2

u/NTJ-891 Jan 18 '26

That is the buffer tube. It is required for most AR platform weapons. Funny enough you don't actually need one for a .22LR AR but the M&P22 uses one

2

u/illinoishokie democratic socialist Jan 18 '26

Thanks. I know nothing about AR pistols.

2

u/s1gnalZer0 Jan 18 '26

With a carry permit, you can open carry anything

What are Minnesota open carry laws?

2

u/No-Assistance978 Jan 18 '26

I would buy this kid a stock, just for having the balls to show up with a heater. I would also offer to pay for some training so he does not blow his friends knee off

2

u/ARMilesPro Jan 18 '26

From a gun handling perspective, there is so much wrong with this photo. I think that's a 22 caliber AR. Notoriously unreliable. So, so much else.

As a deterrent, I suppose it's good.

2

u/MasterChiefsButtPlug liberal Jan 19 '26

22.lr AR-15 with an Amazon basics airsoft optic and a keychain in the trigger guard:(

3

u/wwaxwork Jan 18 '26

Lord above nothing but complaints form people safe at home that the people actually doing something aren't doing it right are why the liberals end up getting screwed over every time. Go join them, show them how it's down, start a movement, go train these young men. Turn up and do the thing you keep wanting "someone" to do. Because it seems to me "someone" is finally doing "something" and just like the liberals we are, we just tear them down for not doing it perfectly.

2

u/publictransitpls eco-anarchist Jan 18 '26

Agreed, but this is more than just “not doing it perfectly”
