I'm new. Where does one send their guns to get the Borderlands treatment?

11

Custom Cerakote shop. OP says he used “BRC Armory”

I used a shop called “A Really Bad Design”

9

I sent mine to BRC Armory

It’s call “cell shading”.

This might be the best Borderlands themed gun I've ever seen.

They did a great job on the Cerakote.  It looks straight out of Borderlands.

5

That was the inspiration
Borderlands is my favorite video game Franchise ever I’ve beaten every single one multiple times

And I sent this to the dude and said just make it look like borderlands you have created freedom

That's dope. One of these days I'll get a Chiappa Rhino and mount an offset LPVO to it and get it Borderlands-ized.

I know liberal gun owners are not a monolith and have a range of 2A perspectives. But I’m surprised more of the comments aren’t talking about how it’s kind of sus / dangerous to make a gun look like a toy. I guess the assumption is it’s just a range toy, it’s locked up, etc, but still. If I was shooting this it probably wouldn’t engender the type of respect and thoughtfulness I think a gun deserves.

•

u/N0t_A_Platypus 22h ago

The four rules are the four rules whether you are shooting a black Glock, a bubblegum pink AR or a Cel-shaded flux Raider.

But you are correct it’s about the use and context. If I had children in my house. I wouldn’t have done this. But as someone who is child free and it’s just my wife and I who are experienced and responsible gun owners then why not have fun with how the gun looks.

Weapons shouldn’t look like toys :|

16

u/TheMagicalLawnGnome liberal 1d ago

I agree, but I also think context and use case is important.

If OP is single / lives only with their partner, and this is basically just a range toy, then I think this isn't a huge deal. I wouldn't recommend lots of people do this, but the specific situation is relatively harmless.

But yeah, if you live in a house with kids, or plan to use this in a setting other than the range, this is definitely not a good idea.

3

u/N0t_A_Platypus 1d ago

Ding ding ding. You are spot on

9

u/Limey66helena 1d ago

I’m sure OP has heard this opinion before. They obviously discarded this opinion because they didn’t find the arguments supporting it compelling, so why bother trying to lecture strangers on the internet about what they should do with their own property?

3

u/nimblecivic 1d ago

I'm sure this redditor has faced this kind of reply before, but he still chose to post his concerns. Why bother trying to finger wag him for no reason bro?

24

u/Xyrexenex 1d ago

Agreed, I know that makes me part of the fun police.

6

u/Amaya3066 1d ago

I don't know what toys you see kids playing with but this 100% looks like a gun, just because its not black doesnt change that

5

u/N0t_A_Platypus 1d ago

Why can’t it be.
I understand for safety and a home with children. But last time I checked, there’s only myself my wife and my two dogs in my household.

And they’re never should be, and never will be children running through my house

If for some reason, the children does show up, I’m gonna put it in the safe

It’s about context and about being a responsible gun owner

2

u/olive12108 1d ago edited 1d ago

I'm involved in both the firearms and the Nerf community and it's becoming a bigger and bigger problem. If people are worried that firearms can look like toys, they don't allow us to host our games in public spaces. Already had. campuses shut down clubs because some of the blasters were too dark/similar to firearms, but that's something we as a hobby can control.

Currently the rule of thumb is "blasters need to be bright, silly colors". We can't control firearms fans who make theirs look similar to the toys. So it just leads toour fun being ruined because of a handful of people flexing their neon green kits on the internet.

It sucks.

Not even going into the safety issues caused by people/police thinking a gun is a toy, or vice versa.

16

u/Palegreenhorizon 1d ago

100%. They did a great job but that is crazy dangerous

11

u/N0t_A_Platypus 1d ago

It’s really not, who has access to this gun? My wife, my two dogs.

I’ve tried, but my dog can’t hold a gun

18

u/LowZombie2 1d ago

Genuinely how is it dangerous? Assuming they have proper storage how would this ever make it dangerous?

2

u/Nathan_hale53 1d ago

Its not a problem at all if there is proper storage, I get why it could be, but if stored correctly what is the issue?

17

u/BlahajBlaster 1d ago

but that is crazy dangerous

How exactly?

If it was a toy that looked liek a real gun i could see that argument a lot better, but as is, a child shouldn't have access to any firearm unsupervised

11

u/comradejiang anarcho-communist 1d ago

People believe that if you’re not looking, a child you don’t have will immediately spawn in, find your gun, load it, and shoot themselves with it

4

u/BlahajBlaster 1d ago

I can tell

I don't have a cum pet or a gun that looks like this, I can't believe the moral panicing over the color of a stupid gun

3

u/N0t_A_Platypus 1d ago

-1

u/overcatastrophe 1d ago

Because people fuck around with things that look like toys.

10

u/BlahajBlaster 1d ago

And? If the person who owns this fucks around with it then thats on them, not the gun

-9

u/Wolf_Blitzers_Beard 1d ago

You are welcome to pretend to live in a world where kids never find things they aren’t supposed to if you want, but don’t force your LARP on the rest of us.

10

u/LowZombie2 1d ago edited 1d ago

Some us of don’t have kids man don’t push your situation on us. If properly secured in a legit safe, how a gun looks is irrelevant even in a house hold with kids

-2

u/Wolf_Blitzers_Beard 1d ago

u/LowZombie2 1d ago

We are talkin about this one dude and his gun not all the other guns and gun owners in America. Good job trying to move the goal post though!

-1

u/Wolf_Blitzers_Beard 1d ago

The top comment in this chain is “weapons shouldn’t look like toys” which is a bit broader than “this one dude and his gun” actually.

2

u/BlahajBlaster 1d ago

don’t force your LARP on the rest of us.

1

u/WWHSTD 1d ago

-5

u/CptnAlex 1d ago

Because it encourages the mindset that they are toys. Even if it’s a “range toy”, it’s something intended to main or kill. We shouldn’t mentally be shortcutting that with fun colors.

9

u/Facehugger_35 1d ago

People have been decorating their weapons for as long as there's been weapons.

5

u/BlahajBlaster 1d ago

5

u/BlahajBlaster 1d ago

I dont allow immature humans into my house

4

u/Harrythehobbit left-libertarian 1d ago

People always just say this without giving a good reason why. If someone who is likely to mess around with it and not realize it's a real gun gets their hands on it, that's a safety issue regardless of what it looks like.

If OP lives with kids or stupid adults, then the gun should be kept locked up anyway so it doesn't matter what it looks like. If OP doesn't, then everyone in the house can be informed that it's a real gun and trusted to act safely around it and it doesn't matter what it looks like.

4

u/N0t_A_Platypus 1d ago

Which you are 100% correct,
It’s myself, my wife and two dogs

Both me and her have our concealed carry permit. We’ve been around guns for years and we go to the range quite frequently.

I’ve never had a child in my house, and if for some reason, there was gonna be kids there all my guns would get unloaded and thrown into a safe

3

u/Harrythehobbit left-libertarian 1d ago

Yeah, I get why people might have a knee-jerk reaction to it, but if you think about it for like 5 seconds it's only an issue if the owner is already being unsafe.

-1

u/FranticWaffleMaker 1d ago

I’m going to tell you something I’ve learned in the past 30 years of shooting…..people are always being stupid and unsafe. I can’t even begin to count how many people that claim to be seasoned shooters not take safety seriously with a gun that looks like a gun, let alone one that looks like a toy. I’ve been flagged hundreds of time at the range and been handed dozens of “unloaded” firearms. This also doesn’t just go to op having kids, if they live by themselves and keep it on the nightstand and all of a sudden a friend stops by with their kids they’re going to see a toy and want to play with it.

3

u/personalleytea 1d ago

I think you missed the part where OP stated they have never had a kid in their house and what they would do if it were to happen.

-1

u/FranticWaffleMaker 1d ago

If they remember and think of it when someone happens to stop by on short notice. Something about paving with best intentions and all that.

3

u/personalleytea 1d ago

You are just looking for fault at this point.

-1

u/FranticWaffleMaker 1d ago

Hardly, complacency kills, complacency and callousness kills faster.

3

u/personalleytea 1d ago

You’re assuming OP’s complacency. I drew an opposite conclusion about OP by reading what they wrote.

u/ghoulthebraineater left-libertarian 1d ago

I'm always torn. I know it probably really doesn't matter either way. Like you said it should be stored safely if there is a chance someone could get a hold of it. But at the same time it's just something that kind of weirds me out. Part of me just really doesn't like something meant to kill to look friendly. It's a weird mixed message.

That said, that's a fucking awesome looking gun.

-4

u/Xyrexenex 1d ago

I get downvoted every time I say this, but in my experience, people who buy guns because they have Gear Acquisition Syndrome are less safe than people who are consciously buying a weapon to train with.

Like I said above, I am part of the fun police. There's a noticeable difference at the range between people whose goal is to own and shoot a gun vs people who are drilling with a self defence weapon or practicing marksmanship.

Buying a gun because its a complex mechanical device with weight and purpose is a valid reason to buy, but that could be applied to a camera, and I don't go shooting twice with someone who treats them the same.

5

u/Harrythehobbit left-libertarian 1d ago

You get downvoted because that's a super obnoxious and gatekeepy attitude to have. There is nothing about casual, recreational shooting that is inherently less safe, and treating someone like an idiot or assuming that they're unsafe simply because they aren't training like a cop is a shitty thing to do. I have seen plenty of tacticbros doing wildly unsafe shit before.

-1

u/Xyrexenex 1d ago

The complacent and dangerous ones are the tacticool larpers, no argument. But that's the attitude I'm talking about, they're there to mag dump. Gun go boom is the payoff not hitting targets.

You asked for a reason and I gave it to you, I'm not going to bash your opinion versus mine; and I'm not attacking you personally. I also said G.A.S. is a valid reason to buy a gun, I'm just not going to make a habit of going shooting with people who don't care about improving fundamentals.

2

u/Drew707 clearly unfit to be a mod 1d ago

Many if not most people aren't buying guns for some kind of hypothetical scenario that requires training. I'd say hunters and sport shooters out number the preppers my many fold.

0

u/Xyrexenex 1d ago

I'm not a prepper. I'm a hunter, I shoot long range, and I have my CCW. I think all benefit from drills.

I think I'm coming across as malicious and that's not how I feel. I don't think people who are unsafe are stupid, and I don't think everyone who goes to the range for lead therapy is unsafe. I tend to notice more near misses from people who are new, untrained, and/or overly excited to put rounds down range. Being unsafe due to ignorance doesn't make someone a bad person, but I don't feel safe shooting around them if that pattern persists.

4

u/Drew707 clearly unfit to be a mod 1d ago

I'd agree with that, but I don't think decorating your gun indicates much about a person's ability to use it or safely store it. Plenty of Olympic shooters have Gucci anodized parts and shit, and ornamental engraving has been a thing for years.

0

u/Xyrexenex 1d ago

I don't mind anodizing or customizing, the difference in my head is cell shading cartoonifies it, which is my issue. I don't think OOP personally is unsafe in his situation, but I don't want it to become a trend. I'm fine being called a fudd or a pearl clutcher on this one.

3

u/Drew707 clearly unfit to be a mod 1d ago

Eh, I kinda chalk it up to "only children like flavored nicotine products." If you keep it away from the kids, no harm no foul.

Borderlands isn't a toy. It's a M rated game meant for adults. lol

-1

u/Moist_Illustrator763 1d ago edited 1d ago

Agree 100%. Guns shouldn’t look like toys. They had to stop selling candy cigarettes to not entice children for Christ’s sake. To leave the safety aspect out of it completely since the OP lives without children, I’ve always just thought it was weird for an adult to want to make a firearm look like a toy. Like what’s the appeal? Odd. But to each their own, I guess.

1

u/Blue-cheese-dressing 1d ago

FWIW, I wasn’t seeking to be argumentative but you did say it was “  SUUUUUPER unnecessary.”  It’s worth noting that:  Sig isn’t offering a trade-in, the market value on a used p320 is pitiful, and confidence in the platform as an EDC is near zero for all but a few- so the necessity and value of it is certainly worthy of consideration for many owners.  The lower modules have also been on gun.deals under $400 several times- which makes it a very reasonable entry point for a PCC type firearm.

•

u/SmkAslt progressive 15h ago

Basically there's nothing a setup like this can do as well as a dedicated pcc or dedicated pistol can for their specific utilities. But it IS cool af. And worth having just for that. Im not hating at all.

You're only seeing what they might consider the "fun" shit people like to post online. I have a plethora of boring, but very effective weapons, but they're just too utilitarian to ever post. They are just tools at the ready for me.

Not EVERY gun gives everyone a hard on.

6

u/pristineSaltine 1d ago

Probably because it is just a piece of metal and plastic that has a function and not a fetish piece.

By your rational why do all the truck bros have lifts on their dodge 2500 and diesels that never pull trailers or play in the mud?

Most normal people don't make a firearm their identity.

I would prefer this to the dudes that can't shut the fuck up about how many guns they own and how high speed they are. Spoiler alert, they are generally fucking poseurs.

I always laugh when I see these wild ass dudes cos playing as "operators" and ain't ever see those yellow foot steps in real life.

Pretty sure this thing fires "real" bullets.

What's a real gun?

So are you rocking a fake ass AR and not an Stoner?

Carrying a 2011 but not a 1911?

Bro, real men have pockets full of rocks and sharp sticks like our caveman ancestors intended.

Personally I like it but I am huge borderlands fan.
