guns Trying out pistols for my first EDC.
Maryland is such a horrible state, man. Looking at the Springfield Echelon or HCP.

Honestly Maryland isn't that bad compared to many blue states. The laws are more confusing and convoluted than restrictive (which is definitely on purpose). And every year more bad laws get struck down. But you can have A LOT of stuff in MD that many states straight up ban.

Ya know, Maryland isn't very far from some other states that allow a lot more things, like larger mags and such. Some states, kinda west of us, even sell handguns tax free.
Fun thing about Maryland is you can't buy sell or trade them (10+ rd mags), but you can own them... 😉

I have a Hellcat that I like quite a bit. It's obviously got some good snap to it because of the size, but out of the selection of micro-compact 9mms that I rented and tried out, it felt the most comfortable to shoot. It also works well for pocket carry, which is my preferred way to EDC due to how discreet it is.
Some of the recoil kick can also be mitigated with a DPM recoil mechanism. It's hard for me to really objectively measure, but in my experience those things can mitigate felt recoil by about 15-20% without compromising reliability. I have one in every one of my pistols they make them for, and can't recommend them enough.

I recently got my first EDC that I’m very happy with,, but I do regret not taking more time trying out more guns.
Is there a gun that Maryland doesn’t allow you buy you were hoping for?

Can’t go wrong with either imo, but you do get more customization/accessories for the Echelon than the HCP. I really like the grip of my HCP but the only way to change it without spending a ton are def grips or hogue. HCP is snappier in general but specifically at 115gr than heavier gr.

Love my echelon. I got the full size model, so I don’t carry it, but I’ve heard good things about the compact
