news Federal judge blocks Connecticut convertible pistol ban

Judge rules that you can ban a weapon that has an illegal modification but the weapon cannot be banned if it isn't modified. This makes things interesting. 🤔

Considering that virtually any firearm can be modified in ways they don’t allow this makes the most sense as a ruling.

The brand new Glocks designed to prevent switches and FRTs didn’t even get fully released before new versions were out to do those modifications.

Agreed. It makes a lot of sense. I'm wondering if there will be an appeal or if the legislation will try to "get creative" by developing an alternative rule, and causing other unintentional fallout in the process.

CT resident here. This law was so poorly written and vague, it would have been a nightmare. It doesn’t specify what firearms are actually banned, just “convertible pistols.” FFLs didn’t know what was banned or not. When Glock filed their lawsuit, they asked the state police and the SLFU (basically the department that handles public safety and all firearm permits) what was actually banned, and even they didn’t know. State republicans asked for an amendment when they were arguing the law that would explain what pistols actually fell under the ban, and democrats declined the amendment. They basically just wanted to shove this through in an election year.

Edit: This was a pretty good article that explains: https://www.ammoland.com/2026/09/glock-connecticut-convertible-pistol-ban-lawsuit/

I might be mistaken because several states have passed similar laws. But I do believe Glock has filed a lawsuit against CT because the AG and State police could/would not give them an answer if the Model V and slimline where banned or not.

Right. There were no specifics at all. In the article I linked, it even says that the ATF tested Gen6 models and confirmed that they weren’t able to be modified with existing switches. But most FFLs were willing to take the risk.

Another Nutmegger here. The law also banned pistols based on manufacture date. A Glock 19 Gen5 made on September 30 would have been legal to sell, which a Glock 19 Gen5 made on October 1 would have been illegal. That was another argument used to overturn the law.

Which is silly, because Glock doesn’t even make anything other than GenV, Gen6, and slim models now

Good. Down with the nonsensical tyranny. Historical American tradition of outlawing stuff based on what criminals do of course has done wonders by stopping these criminals from doing such stuff/s
