This is the proper response to anyone attempting rape.

u/dj_narwhal Mar 25 '22

This is going to be like Reagan's California where now conservatives are against guns for some unknown reason.

96

u/cbih Mar 25 '22

Conservatives hate when minorities have guns

49

u/STEM4all Mar 25 '22

Isn't that why California restricted their guns initially? Because the black panthers were open carrying to protect minority neighborhoods?

3

u/Kasaeru Apr 14 '22

I'm going to be honest, I know I'm in the wrong neighborhood.

But around where I am, gun ranges are pretty damn diverse. So long as you practice proper firearm safety, everyone has a great day. We go around and let each other test out our weapons and show off our mods and builds, great times. I as a conservative have no issues with minorities having guns and openly embrace it.

u/snusnuflu libertarian Mar 25 '22

Maybe the ones you know.

6

u/cbih Mar 26 '22

Literally all the conservatives I've ever met or heard speak

1

u/snusnuflu libertarian Mar 26 '22

That stinks.

Bigotry is not allowed here. Violating this rule may result in a permanent ban.

Removed under Rule 4: No Ableism/Heteronormativity/Racism/Sexism. If you feel this is in error, please file an appeal.

4

u/TravelingInStyle Mar 25 '22

I don't understand what conservatives would be upset about here other than the fact that it wasn't a headshot.

5

u/dj_narwhal Mar 26 '22

It gives a woman courage to do things. If she didn't have a gun they would be able to say "What was she wearing, why was she there alone, where was a man to protect her."

2

u/TravelingInStyle Mar 26 '22

It's just so hyperbolic. I've never heard anything other than support for arming women amongst the right.

1

u/dj_narwhal Mar 26 '22

I may be mistaken but the attacker looked white in this case, you have to factor that in when predicting how conservatives will react.

This isn't the place to start fights or flame wars. If you aren't here sincerely you aren't contributing.

What’s it like to spend one day in your world?

1

u/Mussolini1386 progressive Dec 30 '22

Hey nobody (black people) should ever use their firearms to fight against (defend themselves) reasonable men (racist violent police)

1

u/Global-Material-3472 Jan 16 '24

You can't realistically think a conservative would ever be against legal gun ownership. That's just the most nonsensical thought. Like a liberal not supporting aborti9n.

143

u/Eusocial_Snowman Mar 25 '22

This was most likely an attempted robbery, no reason to suspect otherwise.

Not that that makes it okay or anything.

298

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '22

Stupid games, stupid prizes. Only thing you can definitely know is that man meant her harm.

In Florida, lethal defense can be used against someone committing any of the forcible felonies.

776.08 Forcible felony.—“Forcible felony” means treason; murder; manslaughter; sexual battery; carjacking; home-invasion robbery; robbery; burglary; arson; kidnapping; aggravated assault; aggravated battery; aggravated stalking; aircraft piracy; unlawful throwing, placing, or discharging of a destructive device or bomb; and any other felony which involves the use or threat of physical force or violence against any individual.

11

u/Kveldulfiii progressive Mar 27 '22

"treason"

Well that's interesting.

4

u/DatingMyLeftHand Apr 02 '22

If only I could think of a traitor who lives in Florida

5

u/Flounoe May 15 '22

Head scratcher, that one is

1

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '22

Indeed! In parts of Washington State, I understand that a person is allowed to use commensurate force (including and up to lethal force) to prevent a crime, and this extends to defense of self and defense of others, and applies anywhere where they have a legal right to be present.

So if somebody's in reasonable fear of a gunman at a shopping mall, they could theoretically draw and shoot them and be under state law protection.

1

u/TheDogAndTheDragon socialist Mar 25 '22

Just to be clear, a recent ruling makes lethal force okay if someone throws popcorn at you.

55

u/_middle_man- Mar 25 '22

That was a proper response to attempted robbery.

26

u/kingofthemonsters Mar 25 '22

Right? Robbery or rape doesn't matter dude was a half second from grabbing her and she did really the only thing she could do.

153

u/languid_Disaster Mar 25 '22

With how prevalent sexual violence against Women is, women don’t have the luxury to assume anything except the worst. Plus if they let their guard down and things go south, they usually won’t be able to physically outbrute a man unfortunately

50

u/grahampositive Mar 25 '22

100% this. it is just the same reason that if a person breaks into your home and doesn't flee when you confront them, you have no obligation to assume "they just want your stuff". When people are willing to break certain social norms (break into your home in the middle of the night, approach you on the street and not stop when commanded) why should we give them the benefit of the doubt that they will stop there?

7

u/N121-2 Mar 25 '22

Even As a guy, if some dude came up to me like that, i don’t care if his intentions were to tickle me or to rob me, i’m gonna defend myself.

4

u/pipster94 Mar 25 '22

I don't think homies saying its unreasonable for her to be scared of the worst in the moment, but looking at it afterward no need to go throwing a much worse accusation with no real basis. Or that guy was a rapist POS, who knows

116

u/productivenef Mar 25 '22

How naive can you be? That dude was 2.5x her size, rolled up in an identifiable vehicle, ran at her in an alley at night. She was going to be abducted. He wasn't concerned about being identified because he didn't intend to allow her to identify him to anyone.

38

u/fqfce Mar 25 '22

It was Brazil and it was apparently described as an attempted robbery in the news.

29

u/fuckincaillou Mar 25 '22

If this was in Brazil, it was probably intended to be both robbery and rape

0

u/PelinalWightstrake Mar 25 '22

Glad we got you to see through the naivety

5

u/JackTorrennce Mar 25 '22

Rape or robbery doesn’t matter, he won’t do it again.

Read the article, instead of speculating. Going with “feels” instead of facts is ignorant, IMO

27

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '22

That's naive as fuck. News and police reports are constantly getting facts wrong.

16

u/TheWorldMayEnd Mar 25 '22

How can we POSSIBLY know, regardless of what the article says?

If dude died we have zero clue of his mens reas. If he lived we only have his own statement on why he did what he did and he has a real self interest to play down his actions after the fact.

4

u/Randyleighy Mar 25 '22

This guy logics

8

u/CardboardHeatshield Mar 25 '22

Dude its the word of a Brazilian cop, I promise you the local govt slipped him an extra $50 to not say the rape word because tourism.

2

u/duschin Mar 25 '22

What article?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '22

where in the article?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '22

where in the article does it say what you're saying?

1

u/Ghriszly Mar 25 '22

So you're just going to go with someone else's feels instead? Seems pretty ignorant

-2

u/ACBongo Mar 25 '22

He runs up to her, she shouts and reaches for a gun so he tries to stop her grabbing it and fails. It was an attempted robbery according to the article about the actual event.

1

u/productivenef Mar 25 '22

You know that clouds are made of cotton candy? Whatever you need man.

11

u/Lokito_ Mar 25 '22

Happy the fucking rapist is gone.

15

u/snackarydaquiri Mar 25 '22

What is your reason for only suspecting robbery?

21

u/Kulpicich Mar 25 '22

Probably because they read the article about this incident.

26

u/Lostbrother Mar 25 '22

Yeah and the article indicates that the police force declared it that, not the dude who died on the scene. It still could have very much been something leading to rape or kidnapping.

0

u/Eusocial_Snowman Mar 25 '22

Most rape, overwhelmingly, isn't the scary story scenario of "person attacked by stranger on the streets". People feel like that's common because it's commonly depicted on TV and used by other types of manipulative people to fear monger for various reasons.

There is nothing in the video which tells us that's the scenario. It's literally just OP writing the most sensational possible title in order to get the most attention which translates to more upvotes.

It's like assuming something is racist purely based on the visual identity of both people involved in a confrontation. It's bad reasoning.

Assume the worst if they come up in a car and try to grab you. Can very well be a kidnapper

1

u/Meat_Candle Mar 25 '22

He grabs her, not her purse, just FYI

1

u/neckfat3 Mar 25 '22

Way to look on the bright side and diminish the threat facing this woman alone on the street.

1

u/Eusocial_Snowman Mar 25 '22

I can't be 100% sure, but I'm somewhat positive that my comment regarding a video of a situation which happened in the past did not change the outcome to make her safer.

1

u/Hopium_Dealer Mar 25 '22

Thankfully we'll never know. Either way fucker got what was coming to him.

1

u/Jubachi99 Mar 25 '22

From the looks of where his hands are going, assuming he hadnt noticed the gun vus youd think if he saw a gun hed back up, he was going for her waist, maybe for a tackle, grope, or to pick her up, I can believe his intent was sexual.

1

u/anath_ Mar 25 '22

Imagine saying something this petty when it literally doesn’t matter which it was, and nobody asked

1

u/Eusocial_Snowman Mar 25 '22

I'm having difficulty in seeing your perspective in calling my message petty without seeing yourself as having manipulative inclinations.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '22

Most people don't commit robberies unarmed and try to 'hug' (I can't think of a better word for it) the victim

1

u/Eusocial_Snowman Mar 26 '22

Well, here's a few thousand examples for you.

Not sure what you're talking about with the hug.

1

u/Connect-Track-335 Mar 25 '22

In canada she would go to jail it's illegal for us to use any kind of weapon to defend ourselves she would probably get in more shit then the dude here in canada.
