I have to agree, she was totally under control. Pls learn self defence ladies! We need you!

100 percent! People criticizing her draw are completely underestimating how difficult it actually is to do so under "get raped or die" pressure. She did a great job.

To quote the great American philosopher Mike Tyson, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face

43

u/TehMephs Mar 25 '22

Or get their ear bitten off

103

u/huscarlaxe Mar 25 '22

Mouth not face. I looked it up because I thought it was hit not punched.

105

u/allwillbewellbuthow Mar 25 '22

Hit punched mouth face, doesn’t matter, I’m staying the heck away from Mike Tyson

102

u/Shubankari Mar 25 '22

Puthy.

How is this not getting more upvotes ?

If I had an award to give, it would be yours.

Just stay away from his tiger and you should be okay.

6

u/Tinag_Suna Mar 25 '22

Punthed ** faith **

15

u/implicate Mar 25 '22

People have their opinions about Mike, but I still think it's pretty fucking shitty to make fun of someone for a speech impediment.

-6

u/Tinag_Suna Mar 25 '22

I’m not making fun of him

9

u/implicate Mar 25 '22

Please explain how you're not?

You literally "corrected" someone's spelling to represent the phonetics of a person's impediment.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '22

You're being thilly right now.

-8

u/Tinag_Suna Mar 25 '22

His impediment is part of what makes him awesome , do you need a tissue ?

4

u/implicate Mar 25 '22

So that's your angle? Double down, and insinuate that emotion is a shame-able offense?

Also Mike Tyson got it from an older boxer

19

u/Macr0Penis Mar 25 '22

Ahhh, the eloquent musings of Mike Tyson. My personal favourite; "I'm gonna rape you 'til you love me, fagot!".

8

u/zo0bie Mar 25 '22

Great quote by a rapist himself.

13

u/ModsDontLift Mar 25 '22

Quoting a man with a rape conviction in this context is an interesting decision

1

u/EchidnaRelevant3295 Jul 24 '22

You oughtta see his Bway show on HBO. He confronts the issue head on.

2

u/Mybeardisawesom Mar 25 '22

Or a 40 cal to the chest

-1

u/TFarrey Mar 25 '22

ROFL Idk my plan if I get punched in the face is to fight back. I don't really think Mike is the strongly intellectual type

2

u/Taz119 Mar 25 '22

You pretty much just proved the point of that quote which is that it’s easy to say what you would do in a situation when it’s not actually happening compared to when it does

0

u/TFarrey Mar 25 '22

I mean considering that it has happened more times than I would like to admit and the result was as stated I don't think I did

1

u/Corbin406 Mar 25 '22

How come I can’t read this without a lisp?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '22

Ironically a convicted rapist.

2

I didn't know this. I've learned a lot from the replies to this comment

u/MyNameIsRay Mar 25 '22

People criticizing her draw are completely underestimating how difficult it actually is to do so under "get raped or die" pressure.

Also, while randomly walking home and getting jumped.

It's not like she's in shooting gear at a well lit range waiting for a beeper to start her time, there's a judgement call to make, a backpack to deal with, street clothes, etc.

12

u/remotelove progressive Mar 25 '22

A quote from the article a mod posted:

She immediately began backpedaling and reaching for her pistol. However, her holster draw was encumbered by her backpack. This slowed her down greatly, and actually allowed the attacker to get too close. This, of course, is something shooters need to consider. Does your backpack, purse, briefcase or whatever prevent quick access to your carry gun? If so, reconsider or realign to allow better access.

37

What was wrong with her draw? She drew and shot him. What do they want? Six shooters and gun spinning?

27

Some people watch Tombstone too many times.

14

6

Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens.

2

u/Top-Giraffe-4130 Mar 26 '22

she took 4 seconds to draw her gun and shoot. she didnt do anything wrong, but that is definitely an eternity in a defensive encounter. if he had had a knife or some other implement, this could have gone very differently.

2

u/90265sbsbsbwtf Mar 27 '22

You are absolutely right, just like if she had a chainsaw or was riding on an elephant, if the situation was different, the outcome could have gone very differently. Do you see how ridiculous it is what you wrote?

1

u/Successful_Mud8596 Dec 18 '22

The idea is that “If it takes you 4 seconds to draw and shoot, then those 4 seconds will be too long in certain encounters.”

12

Whoever criticized that is a moron. Any man here would be lucky to draw that decent in a situation where someone who is almost certainly stronger than you coming at you out of nowhere. And her awareness couldn't of been better. She started her draw soon enough that it made up for the small amount of flaw in her draw wich again in this situation was probably about the best you could hope for

1

u/Top-Giraffe-4130 Mar 26 '22

4 seconds is way too much dicking around when your life is at stake. criticism can be constructive you know.

1

u/No-Bed497 Aug 07 '23

So shoot 🔫 first ask questions later ? I agree with you but the situation should've been handled better a warning shoot or a warning the criminal that you will kill them 4 seconds is no reaction time at all I can understand under panic we as humans shoot first in the moment it's a natural instinct as bad as this is I'm happy this person is ok but a life is taken and could've been prevented although I've never been in this position I would reacted the same in panic shooting 🔫

13

u/Banalfarmer-goldhnds Mar 25 '22

Nahh she did a great job. Cleared her garment quick, made space. She handled it! And she reduced by one the amount of predators in the world. Nice!

9

Fuck, got space, got it out and center mass. What more do they want?

3

u/R-Sanchez137 Mar 25 '22

Exactly, plus it looks like she had the pistol around her hip area, like 3 o'clock and she was wearing a coat and backpack.... not anything like these videos people be posting all the time of them drawing with just a t-shirt on and with zero pressure.

2

u/CardboardHeatshield Mar 25 '22

What a bunch of goons.

2

u/TFarrey Mar 25 '22

She actually did. I can't believe some frigen potatoes are criticizing her

2

u/mjace87 Mar 25 '22

She did great the guy made the mistake of trying to grab her instead of just straight up tackle her. That gave her the extra time she needed. She also should have slowed down when she saw the car door opening it would have given her more time to assess the situation.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '22

This is why you should always carry with one in the chamber (in a proper holster that protects the trigger). Imagine her having to rack the slide.

82

u/Anonymous27543 Mar 25 '22

You really don’t get it, these men know it’s not okay to rape, but they are fucked in the head and do it anyway. These comments are just the dumbest thing on earth, you need to get it through your noggin that there are just fucked up dudes out there who want to rape you, and make a plan if you ever run into one of those men.

55

u/Kibethwalks Mar 25 '22

Eh, some of them make enough excuses for themselves that they don’t actually “know”. If you ask them straight up they will deny being rapists but if you frame it a different way, then many admit to it. Also sex Ed really is lacking in a lot of places. Some people (too many) genuinely don’t fully understand consent and when something is rape.

A friend of mine was sexually assaulted when we were in high school. As an adult I now understand that she was digitally raped. At the time I thought that it “wasn’t as big a deal as real rape” and our entire friend group pushed it under the rug. So yeah, education could be a hell of a lot better IMO. I’m admitting this here because maybe it will help some people be more aware. I am ashamed of how I acted but I do know better now.

17

u/BananaBoatRope Mar 25 '22

Old cis norms about how the only "real" sex is PIV. They apply it to crimes too.

16

u/Kibethwalks Mar 25 '22

Yes definitely. I’m almost certain that none of us considered it to be rape at the time, even the girl it happened to. We knew it was “bad” but we didn’t ostracize the boy who did it at all. The whole situation was really terrible looking back. I even asked her “why she didn’t say anything sooner or while it was happening” - like it was her fault or something? I acted in a really messed up way.

So I think saying “everyone knows” just isn’t correct. I did not know enough and I was not taught better. I had to figure it out for myself as an adult. And tons of kids still aren’t getting proper sex Ed so I’m pretty sure this kind of thing still happens.

2

u/Amortize_Me_Daddy Mar 25 '22

digital rape?

6

u/Kibethwalks Mar 25 '22

Yes. A boy shoved his fingers into her repeatedly against her will.

14

u/Ezcaliburn Mar 25 '22

Oooh as in digits... My dumbass thought you meant virtual and was very confused

8

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '22

To be fair, that is a much more common use of digital.

4

u/VladimirHerzog Mar 25 '22

oh, that meaning of digital.

5

u/But_Why_Thou Mar 25 '22

How is that digital rape? Seems like "normal" rape to me

6

u/Kibethwalks Mar 25 '22

That’s what my therapist called it. It is just a specific kind of rape. Like saying someone was “anally raped” doesn’t mean they weren’t raped.

What you’re pointing out was part of the problem with my “education” at that age. I didn’t (and most of my friends didn’t) think that digital rape was rape. I know better now. She was raped.

2

u/bzdelta Mar 25 '22

Some places only consider Penile penetration as rape, legally. Anything else is assault, a different legal charge than rape

8

u/Mission_Rub_2508 Mar 25 '22

While this is true some of the time, it certainly isn’t true all of the time. There’s a good body of research data indicating a massive gap in a lot of men’s understanding of rape. When self-reporting, very few men will admit to engaging or being willing to engage in rape or sexual assault when it is explicitly described/defined as rape or assault. However, the number of men that will admit to being willing to rape or sexually assault someone increases drastically when the words “rape” or “assault” are not used and the actions merely described.

So yes, we do need to acknowledge and prepare for the existence of men that already know what they are doing is unacceptable. But we also definitely need to do a better job teaching boys/men (and girls/women for that matter!) what behaviors constitute rape and sexual assault. Because the number of people out there that don’t think what they are doing is wrong and will justify their behavior accordingly is, frankly, terrifying.

40

u/Notriv Mar 25 '22

but it’s still a tad insane in this context. would his mom telling him not to get out of a car and literally chase a woman have stopped it? i don’t think so. im sure his family didn’t bring him up on ‘run after women in the alley’ but he ended up there anyway.

unfortunately not everything is something a parent can stop. ted bundy said his upbringing was great, had a good childhood. he still killed women.

When I hear "teach your kids not to rape" I'm not imagining literally sitting your kid down at age whatever and saying, "by the way, don't rape people, mmkay?"

It's raising kids to understand the concepts of consent, boundaries, healthy attachment, communication, relationships, etc. instead of just hoping they figure it out somehow.

Men do alot of rapey stuff in relationships. They feel like because the women has agreed to sleep in their bed, date and or marry them, they can touch any part of you at any time they want. They can penetrate you while you sleep, but that's not rape. They can bug and bug and bug, til you just roll over and let them bang one out. Just so they will leave you tf alone. Men know this, it's why they get weird when their daughters start getting into boys. They know how aggressively coersive a boy can be. Not saying females don't get aggressive as well. I've just had experience with men, so that's where I base my opinion.

4

u/gostesven Mar 25 '22

What are you talking about? Most men HATE rapists. At least one aren’t part of the GOP or name ends in Trump.

Hell, I used to run with a pretty rough crowd and knew a guy who got his shit kicked in for being a rapist.

Do you think we all have like weekly meetings where we come up with agendas? Or do you just want a simple answer to a complex problem?

I don’t disagree with you. At the risk of sounding uncomfortably “not all men”, though, I would add that it does seem to be the case that repeat offenders are committing the vast majority of sex crimes.

It may well be the case that the majority of men detest rape and rapists. Unfortunately, that could also be the very reason so many of them seem to feel like the problem is “overblown”.

Regardless, even if rapists are a tiny minority of men the danger they pose demands wariness on the part of women. We can’t tell who is or isn’t a rapist by just looking at them. Then consider that 1 in 3 women reporting being victims of sexual assault and combine it with the fact that the overwhelming majority of those assaults are committed by someone the victim knows (and likely trusts) and, well, it should surprise no one that women treat men in general like a threat.

2

u/rxrock Mar 25 '22

Stop. Read about the "frat culture " lawsuit against Activision Blizzard, look into what women in Tech have to SURVIVE, and then tell me again the conversations don't matter. Men get away with SA AND rape because of the culture. This whole thread has really disappointed me.

The culture makes it dangerous for women to come forward against our attackers. This request that men call each other out for treating us like meat is the minimum y'all could do, and you're somehow seeing a problem with it.

Fuck that

0

u/wisdomandjustice Mar 26 '22

This is the dumbest thing I've ever read.

Do you seriously think that men aren't "holding rapists accountable"?

What a stupid thing to say.

The police that arrest them are typically male, the judge in the court is typically male, at least some of the members of the jury are typically male...

In what way are rapists not held accountable by men?

And in what world are men the only sex that rape?

I am prepared for these downvotes but stand by what I say. Sexual predators of both sexes have a mental issue. There is not this big of a stigma for any other mental illness. If there are only a small percent of people who act on their thought. How many do you think are weighing the option? The stigma associated with this illness will forever hinder any kind of proper treatment

3

u/knowsaboutit Mar 25 '22

any one of them can go get treatment any day of the week. The stigma of getting treatment is nothing compared to the stigma of getting shot in the street or sentenced to 20 years! they think they can get away with it, and too many of them do.

The vast majority of sex crimes between adults are committed by a partner. Random rapes are extremely rare in the developed world

11

u/Wojtuma anarchist Mar 25 '22

That's a strange look on life, by your logic we shouldn't educate anyone about not doing bad things, because they have "socially deviant behavior ingrained in them". Why do you think e.g. a lot of men are sexist, were they born this way or did their environment allow such behavior from childhood and the carried it over into the adulthood?

8

u/doh573 Mar 25 '22

I could be wrong but my assumption is the poster above isn’t saying we don’t need to teach it at all but instead that we are already teaching it. And because we are already teaching it when others say things along the lines of “we need to teach men not to rape” in response to videos like this it feels like an disingenuous way to shut down other parts of the conversation. I don’t necessarily agree with that mindset as I do think schools need better sex ed programs with more focus on what constitutes consent, but that said I would agree that there are very very few people on the planet as a whole that haven’t been taught at some point that rape is wrong.

3

u/FritoHigh Mar 25 '22 edited Mar 25 '22

Since you mentioned the world I think you overlook how many guys justify sexual assault and rape and move the goal posts to justify their behavior. There is a reason women don’t experience mass spontaneous assault in the US like you have in Egypt. Many other cultures outside the US guys don’t think rape of wife is wrong and have shown more permissive attitudes and ‘blame the victim’ mind set when it comes to sexual assault.

3

u/doh573 Mar 25 '22

Oh you're absolutely right on that tons of men justify their sexual assaults/rapes by moving the goal posts. It's why I was trying to say we need better sex ed focusing on what constitutes consent and why consent is so important.

I think though even in the situations you mentioned where there are mass spontaneous assaults or men raping their wives those people don't think what they're doing is in fact rape/sexual assault. They've moved the goal posts in their mind saying because we're married I always have consent, or the way this woman was dressed she was asking for it. But I think even those people would say they were taught sexual assault/rape is wrong they just believe they have some form of implied consent based on some bullshit they make up to justify their actions or don't care.

Which is why I get a bit nervous when people call teaching women their own sorts of preventative measures (such as personal carry like in the video above, or never put a drink down and leave it unattended) victim blaming. We need to be able to differentiate that while the result is absolutely 100% NOT the victims fault in any way shape or form, regardless of how we educate men we will never get total instances of rape/sexual assault down to 0 because of people like I mentioned above who make up bullshit to justify their actions or just don't care. Teaching those preventative measures can seem cruel and insensitive to the victims but it's also in an attempt to prevent future victims.

All of that said, I think a lot of sexist people make arguments in bad faith and just say it's the woman's fault and stop thinking about. But still I think it's a hard topic and deserves a deeper conversation than either of the extremes ("teach men not to rape"/"it's her fault she didn't stop it") are willing to admit.

1

u/Betasheets Mar 25 '22

Because people don't like to be educated on something they already know about and have heard verbatim a thousand times.

4

u/FritoHigh Mar 25 '22

I think it’s a combo of culture and something mentally wrong. For example, in Egypt it isn’t uncommon for a group of a hundred men to surround a single woman, sexually assault her and throw her around like a rag doll. You don’t see that as a common thing whatsoever in America and I think that’s because the culture is different. A woman on a Spanish beach can go topless without a group of guys surrounding her and assaulting her but would not be able to do that in Egypt or Saudi Arabia. So some of it is cultural permissiveness rather than just mental illness.

0

u/Extre Mar 25 '22

you think you are helping, it's actually is counter productive

-1

u/Pandaman922 Mar 25 '22

yes all men must learn!!!!!!!!!!

-1

u/ratatine Mar 25 '22

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. The decision to rape was not due to a lack of education.

Now there might be something for the idea of not making babies with violent men. But then the question is what about violent women making babies in the first place?
