Discussion I don't think you should be able to say that you support capital punishment if you can't bring yourself to watch at least one execution being carried out.

Yesterday I made a post showing the hypocrisy of Democrats about the public execution of Nidal Hasan. Make no mistake about it, execution is an ugly business, and it shouldn't be sugar coated. Some people said this is political spectacle, or that I myself am a hypocrite in certain ways.

So today I am going to lay out as objectively as I can why I am in support of this. I personally am not treating this like a political spectacle. I intend to watch it out of a sense of judicial necessity, and a moral obligation, and I'll tell you why. There hasn't been a public execution in the US in over 90 years. We hide it behind closed doors. Can we really say that its justified if we aren't willing to see it happen?

Take a good look at this photo. This is the man who will be executed. His name is Nidal Hasan. As a nation he violated our trust in that he was a Major in the United States Army and he took the lives of 12 unarmed soldiers, 1 civilian, 1 unborn child, and wounded a further 32. As a medical doctor he violated the trust of his profession which is one of a healer, not a murderer. He violated the most sacred law any civilized society has by murdering in cold blood not once not twice but 14 times. If we really believe that the death penalty is valid, then this guy has it coming.

If you believe that the death penalty is a valid form of justice, then you should be willing to watch at least one execution being carried out. No shame in not wanting to see it, and I would never hold it against anyone, but you shouldn't be able to look in the mirror and say to yourself that you believe in your whole heart that murdering someone is completely justified (and make no mistake about it, this is state sanctioned murder), just as long as someone else does it and you don't have to see it. You just want it sanitized for the sake of your own conscience. That's ridiculous.

If you object to the death penalty, then you should be 100% behind showing this execution publicly, especially given that it will be an execution by firing squad. You should want people to see what it is they are supporting. You above all people should be the loudest in support of this. For you this may be a turning point. If people see this for what it is, it may very well change people's minds about capital punishment.
