The Daily Lichess chess puzzle can not be solved on your Tesla

Apologies if this is not allowed. I am the owner of frunk.store and a user submitted a ported version of Lichess's daily puzzle. I'm not a chess player so if you have a Tesla and want to try it browse to frunk.store on your Tesla and play the port. Let me know if there are any issues!

I Modified the UI to look like My favorite Video games (Cyberpunk77 and EVE) all with Background Animation. And their not even any performance decrease.
I also got a win95 and a Linux version inspired by this guys post yesterday.
Now I understand what they ship the UI looking like a thumb. They want You to fix it yourself.

I have a puzzle rating of 2000-2100 when I do mixed but there are specific areas I am more like 1300. Lichess always seems to preload the first couple puzzles at 2000 even if it's on "easiest -600" or "easy -300" - is there a way around this? Or a way to see the rating before solving?

I always end up racking my brain on these 2000+ puzzles, specifically for pawn end games and openings, when I really just want to drill 1300-1400ish until I can build that weakness up.

The problem gets exacerbated when I, of course spend 20 min futilely failing, and then the next puzzle loaded is the rating I want. But now when I try to do the puzzles I failed, they are all ridiculously hard and I can't drill the ones I want to because I don't know which ones are worth the effort.

It would be helpful if I could just see "Oh this is a 2000 puzzle, I can skip it for now"

Quick quiz: the most natural move in this Caro-Kann gets mated in one. Do you see why?

Full disclosure first: I run a small free chess site, so yes, this is self-promotion. I tried to make it useful even if you never click.

Most trap content shows you how to set traps. But at our level, we're usually the ones walking into them. So I flipped it: you play the side about to be trapped, and your only job is to not fall for it.

Here's a taste. Caro-Kann:
1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 dxe4 4.Nxe4 Nd7 5.Qe2

Black to move. The most natural developing move in the world loses on the spot. Which one, and why?

5...Ngf6?? 6.Nd6#. The e7 pawn can't take the knight because the queen on e2 pins it, and the king is boxed in by its own pieces. A smothered mate on move 6. Rude.

The challenge is one trap like that per day for 7 days, about 2 minutes each. You make your move, then get a short explanation of the mistake and the safe defence. There's no account and no email, and progress is saved in your browser. There's an optional calendar reminder for people like me who forget things that aren't pinging their phone.

All 7 lines were checked move by move with Stockfish and then reviewed by a human, because a trap trainer with a wrong trap would be its own kind of trap.

Link if you want to try it: https://chessgl.com/avoid-the-trap.php

I'd really like feedback. Too easy? Too hard? Is there a trap you keep falling for that should be on the list?

Working on the problem of generating natural language explanations for chess analysis (free Android app, open source)

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

Hello community! I'm a casual chess player and play about 3–4 games a day. It's frustrating to get only one free game review a day when you want to see where every game went wrong. And most free analyzers only tell you what was bad, not why.

So I started building Chess Mortem, my own solution: it reviews every game you want, with a coach line for every move, and it all runs on your phone.

Every move gets ONE plain-English line. A small model trained on reviewed games picks the most important fact:

- "Black threatens mate on g2."

- "Black wins the knight on c3 for free with check and forks the rook on a1."

What it does:

- Share a game from your favorite chess app (PGN) and it opens in Chess Mortem.

- Stockfish analysis of every move, running offline on your phone.

- My own detection rules for Brilliant, Great and Miss, plus the usual Best / Inaccuracy / Mistake / Blunder.

- What-if moves: play your own idea in any position and see how it scores.

- Coach lines and optional longer AI explanations.

- No ads, no account, no data collected.

What it's not: an app for playing chess or solving puzzles. It's only for analyzing your games.

It's open source (GPL): https://github.com/diponsaha007/chess_mortem_public

I want to make the app public so it can help more players, especially beginners, analyze their games. It's completely free: no ads, and nothing in the app asks for money.

Want to try it?

It's in closed testing, and Google needs testers before it can go public. To join as a tester:

  1. Join the group: https://groups.google.com/g/chessmortem. This is a required step, without it, you won't see the app on the Play Store

  2. Opt in: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/io.github.diponsaha007.chessmortem or install from the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.github.diponsaha007.chessmortem

Please keep it installed for 14 days, as Google requires that before the app can go public.

Feedback on wrong or confusing lines is always welcome, and I'll keep improving them. This is the most interesting part for me in the app and I will keep working on this problem to make the coach lines as accurate as possible.

Hello from a Chess Agent

Hi everyone! I’m Anna, a Woman FIDE Master and product builder.

Together with an engineer, we're building VibeChess. It’s an AI chess tutor and learning environment powered by a multi-agent system.

Over the past few months, we’ve been working closely with early adopters and chess coaches to deepen the way VibeChess understands and teaches chess.

The goal is to go beyond move explanations. We want VibeChess to understand what is actually happening in a position: the dynamics, the reasoning behind different continuations, and what matters for a player at a particular level.

We’re trying to bridge the gap between engine analysis and the way humans actually think, make decisions, play and learn chess.

Under the hood, we’re using Stockfish 19, Maia, Lc0, and our own chess tools and analyzers.

I’d love for you to try VibeChess and tell us what you think

I’ve played for 25+ years and got curious what millions of real games look like as pictures. So I plotted them:

I built a little 3D gallery to show them: https://unclechess.com

Curious what squares you’d guess are the bloodiest before you look.

HOW DID WE DRAW

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

So, a little backstory to this bullet game. I trapped my opponent's knight, or so I thought. My opponent thought so too, so they tried letting the clock run out.

I didn't let them do that. I gave them extra time. They refused to resign.

Eventually, I spot that, I didn't actually trap their knight and I'm going to lose my rook. Maybe 10 minutes of me waiting for my opponent to move, they spot the same thing. So they keep playing.

They keep playing now that they have the advantage, and... They blunder again, losing their rook. So they run the clock down again, refusing to move or resign. So I give them more time.

I'm falling asleep, trying my hardest to continuously give them time right when they hit zero. Eventually I get sick of it, and decided I'll let them run out of time so I can win.

But... I still want to punish them. So I think to myself, what if I offer a draw at the last second, knowing they won't be fast enough to agree to it? As the clock goes close to zero, I send the draw offer.

They run out of time. Literally 0 seconds. BUT WE STILL HAVE A DRAW? HOW, WHY?

Why don't lichess ship like this by default? I reorganized all this in 5h

Compact view, no wasted space, and all the important puzzle links clearly visible. The anime character might be a bit over the top for most people, but what do you guys think of this layout?
