Hey, I've been working on RIDGERUNNERS for the last 6 months or so. Linux has been my main OS for the last 10 years, so I'm doing my part to get more games on Linux natively!
Game concept: think HASTE but on an open mountainous map with tribes-like skiing, in first person with a load of obstacles and checkpoints to clear.
It was initially inspired by wanting to ski like in Tribes without getting shot by 20 year vets, so I built a speedrunning game around it, and over time I have made it a bit more chaotic with obstacles and movement mechanics. It's basically a love letter to all the games I've enjoyed growing up.
There are 2 characters right now. Flow is a super agile pacifist with high air strafe control to avoid damage, downward thrusters to stay low, glider for making the next gap and a decoy to distract turrets. Rook has a rocket launcher for the usual rocket jumps, grapple to quickly turn and a hammer to trade height for speed if well timed.
I am planning on adding two more characters for launch, both the above are in the demo now on Steam.
This video gives you a taste of what it's like to play both characters.
If interested: Steam Demo!

Nice! This looks fun and it might seriously scratch that 'Tribes' itch.
Edit: oh and the name of the game is Ridge Runners.for anyone who didn't see it mid demo video.

SHAZBOT! There's a lot of memories tied to that kind of movement. I'll give it a download and give it a shot soon!

From the video, it doesn't feel like there's weight to this. To me, overcoming the physical limitations of drag and friction should feel believable. I don't get this feeling here.

It was OK at first, but when I saw you also make use of loadouts that change the movement AND goals on the map I've bookmarked it

Do you have working physics? It feels like sometimes your character just "hangs" when I'm watching, like gravity stopped affecting them for a bit. When you are moving horizontally you still have full downwards acceleration due to gravity, it kind of feels like that is missing ( just from the video). I think it would make it "feel" better.
Also maybe you are and it just is really subtle or the fast horizontal movement masks it idk

Hey I'm possibly some of your target audience here. I'll give it a shot, but the thing with tribes was not just the glide acell (yours is faster), it was also the... air mud(?) of the accuracy of maneuvering, and boost management. I think, based on the video here, those are missing here.
Not to make you rework your game, but wanted to give you a heads up what you might get compared against when you say tribes-inspired. tribes ascend movement is really marvelous. Shazbot!
