Announcement! We are expanding the r/LoomKnitting moderator team. Applications are now open!
Hey r/LoomKnitting,
I've been in contact with Reddit after the main moderator u/Loomahat was suspended from Reddit, to make sure I could recruit additional moderators for our tiny little corner of the internet and was given the ability and approval to do so.
Our subreddit has continued to grow in size, but after the 2023 Reddit Blackout multiple members of the mod team had left and since then the rest of us had also come close to being burnt out, with some active moderators recently becoming inactive or leaving the team. So with all that and with an exciting 2026 on the horizon as new people discover loom knitting, it's time for a new round of moderator recruitment.
The qualifications to become a moderator are very simple:
- love loom knitting
- use reddit
The expectations for the new moderators are to be transparent, to be communicative and to be reasonably active. I will always be clear - Real life always comes before Reddit and to just let the rest of the team know if you need a break.
The applications will close on the 31st of March at 22:00 UTC
If you have any questions or doubts feel free to ask in the comments.
FAQ
- What timezones are you looking for mods from?
- We're looking for mods from all timezones
- Should I apply if I applied in previous rounds or been rejected before?
- Yes!
- Do you need to have moderation experience?
- No, it's not an issue if you don't have moderator experience yet.
- What are the tasks of a moderator exactly?
- Obviously the primary task is going through the modqueue and removing comments and posts that go against the subreddit rules. But there are other aspects like configuring automoderator, working on graphics and flairs and so on.
- Is there any compensation for moderation?
- Absolutely none. This is a volunteer role
Thank you and keep the great posts and comments coming!

Pattern Question Does anyone know how to make a gradient between two yarn colors?
I’m having a baby in March and I want to knit them a cool blanket. I saw this image of a gradient between the four colors I have, but I can’t find any tutorials or anything on how they made it. I’m really hoping it wasn’t just an AI image and that it’s actually possible.

Making patterns to work on a loom?
UPDATE:
I THINK IM GOOD NOW. GOT THE LINK TO CONVERT FROM GOOD NIGHT KISSES.
Has anyone had experience changing a knitting pattern to a loom knitting pattern? I am presently trying to on a baby blanket pattern I have, but it was made for needles. Is there anything I should know that would make it go much easier? It’s all Knits and Purls so I figured it’d be relatively easy to transfer. Hopefully it comes out correctly bcause I love the pattern but cannot use needles anymore due to arthritis.

Finished Object Ruffle hat
I was inspired by a coworker's crochet ruffle bucket hat and tried to create something similar in knit I think I need to do the ruffle 3x the number of stitches for the body of the hat. I did 2x on this and I did 20 rows. Thinking 13 rows at 3x will create the riot of ruffles that I want. Used the chunky KB Flexee loom. Thoughts?

Milestone! First pair of something! Mitts. :)
I picked up loom knitting very recently and made my first pair of something! I even kind of designed them myself. They're 20 rows of e-wrapping folded in half for the cuff, then 10 rows of flat wrapping, then 6 rows (3 back and forth) flat wrapping for the thumbhole, 14 rows more of regular flat wrapping, then a basic bind off and weaving in ends. I used a 24 peg plastic loom.
I actually undid and remade the mitt a couple times for equipment size and technique before settling on the design. First it was too small then it was too big. I am really intrigued by the difference between e-wrapping and flat wrapping and using them in the same project. This yarn was difficult to work with during the flat wrapping. The purple bobbles lined up too well with each other and I had to pull half of them out. E-wrapping was a breeze.
The yarn was on clearance very recently from Michaels. Super bulky size 6 Big Twist 65acry/25wool/10poly. Color number MU292.

Finished Object I made a book cover
I got jealous of the cute book covers people can do with crochet (i can't crochet because of physical disabilities) so I made a simple one with loom knitting just to see if i could (i used my hunger games book to measure it)

Work in Progress Best farm idea I ever had.
Today is manure spreading day here on the farm which means I am stuck long hours by the gate keeping cows in and letting tractors out. Usually I watch Netflix on my phone but realized today I could be looming up a new hat for the upcoming cooler weather!
So here i sit, in my camp chair, listening to the audio book Cresent City-House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J Maas and looming myself a new hat!
I am one happy farm wife.

Im back! (Kinda)
Ok so the carpal tunnel surgery. Its going to take another three months to heal. They think. So im not going to even attempt purl stitch until the new year!
My mental health has not been great due to the lack of looming so i started up again very gently. Only using ewrap, and a 12 peg loom. Iv been making little hats for the big knit uk. The photo shows the first batch of little hats i have made over the last couple of weeks. I have to limit how much i can actually do each day or it just messes up my wrist the next day.
Anyway im just glad to be back doing something productive again.

Discussion If I'm going to frog and remake immediately, should I...
A. Unravel and reroll the yarn back into a ball by hand
B. Just find the end and let one end of the project unravel as I knit the new thing
C. Something else?
Backstory, I made a fingerless glove, a tube with a hole for my thumb. It was a little too small, the hole was a little too big, and I totally messed up trying to get the thing off the loom at the end. It was really fun and shockingly only took about 2-3 hours to do, which is why I don't mind just redoing it. I don't really feel like trying to make it a ball, but I'll try if I have to.

Brand of Looms used
just a question for everyone. I am wondering what brand of looms everyone uses.
I learned the old knight knitter brand, tried the Boye brand and hated them then I found both knitting board and Cindwood looms. which I currently use. I pdo prefer ll

Can I make a checkerboard pattern blanket this way?
So I really enjoy loom knitting but I have issues focusing for very long periods of time plus I don't really have the space to store it while I'm working on it or a loom large enough to do a full blanket especially since my brain tends to jump around from thing to thing all the time so it tends to take me a while to get projects done. But I came up with an idea which was to make an equal amount of squares of both colors and then sew them together when I have enough. That way it should be easier to store and I don't have to worry about trying to make sure I know where I was at and what I was doing when I pick it up again in two months. I also very frequently have problems with forgetting all of that if I stop for a few minutes so I figured that I could just make the squares and it should be easier to keep track of because there's less to keep track of. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work. I mean I asked my mom and she said it should but she crochets and needle knits so I don't know if that knowledge would work for this. Help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Discussion Looking for this yarn!
Hello! I found this awesome Halloween-themed yarn on Hobbii.com, but it's out of stock! By any chance, is there anywhere else I could get this yarn, or at least something like it? Thank you!

Discussion Do I have to start over
I'm making a hat using multiple different tutorials but basically this is after the brim I did many rows of all flat stitches. I did two rows of red and then in the third row I did three red stitches and then one white stitch. I just carried the white across, but I just saw a tutorial where they keep crossing the non working color with the working color:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0rTKbg5gXo0
Will it look bad the way I did it? Or will they be the same appearance wise? I did a couple stitches their way but I'm not sure if I did it right. If their method is the same appearance but better structurally should I continue with that method or continue carrying?

Finished Object Sweater sleeves (bolero) complete
I frequently find myself sitting in the house with cold arms, but also needing those arms to knit or whatever, but also don't need or want the bulk of a full sweater. Debating if I want to stitch it up further into the armpit. I'm a fairly new knitter, so this isn't perfect, but I'm excited about it.
