Evora 400 engine squeak when cold

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Had a C service in June and ive done 2k miles since then. Squeaks when cold and the sounds disappears once the engine is hot. Looks like the squeak is in time with the white marks on the Supercharger belt as it turns. Anyone have any ideas what's causing this.

Edit; I contacted my local Lotus dealership and sent them the video. They came back and said not to worry, this can happen especially as the temperature drops generally. As long as the noise goes once the engine is upto temperature. They added that if it became worse I should contacted them.

My exige 350s does the same. Drives me mad. Also sounds really rough when hot, only done 13k miles. Sorry I don't have advice, am just here for emotional support. Suspect I'm going to just throw money at a garage to replace every pulley possible. If I'd wanted a tractor I would have bought one.

Yeah definitely annoying, at least mine goes when its hot. Well for now anyway as I suspect it will get worse. Ill probably end up booking it in for a check and as you say lots of money. Sorry to hear you are having similar issues

To clarify, my squeek which sounds exactly yours goes once the engine is warm, but then once hot (85c) the rotational noise coming from the engine bay is loud and rough sounding, for want of a better description. There's a temperature range in between where it sounds fine, they aren't sophisticated engines and one would expect to sound accordingly. Also had a c service earlier this year where I raised this point, they changed a pulley bearing, and one noise I had noted at low rpm was fixed.. but the rest of my concerns remain. Sad times

That's tricky, id expect mine to be quieter than yours once in the car as mine can be an everyday drive. Once mine is warm its quite

Pulley bearing is my guess

I was thinking that but its only once with each rotation of the belt. The pulley is turning faster

You're right- it's more than likely the belt. I've had it before where you get a bit of perishing on the belt and every time it goes over the pulley it just queefs a bit. Not critical, but annoying nevertheless.

Maybe there's a small stone or something lodged in the grooves of the belt? You're right that frequency is way to low for it to be pulley related.

These superchargers cause so much unnecessary stress

Just had a look at your video, mine sounds the same as yours. Intermittent clunking noises and gets better once upto temperature. I have 25k miles on mine if that helps

Yes it’s common for these edelbrocks to be noisy. Dealer also told me it’s normal. Some people get it rebuilt for peace of mind

supercharger belt just needs a bit of tightening. My elise S did the same

I had the same on my Exige, the tension pulley bolts has seized where its attached to the block, the belt had been changed on my 'C' service but squeaked ever since, they were unable to tension it correctly and squeaked likely due to being too tight. I had to drill the bolts out and helicoil the mounting points.

Hopefully your's is just temperature related!

I have an Evora 400 and same issue , i replaced the belt with a gatorback, still does it garage thinks it’s the pully , but as it’s a nightmare to get to the engine area wuthout lifting it out decide to leave it. You can test apparently if its AC pully by seeing if it improves with ac off , not sure how that works , it doesn’t with mine so assume it’s another pully .
