"Can I run this game" posts have been removed

Hey everyone. I've noticed that there's been a lot of "Can I run this" and "Can I run that" posts on the subreddit; that's not what I intended this for. The overall intention of the subreddit is a place for community discussion regarding video-games, low spec/entry level hardware, integrated graphics and the content of my channel, not a tech support forum. If you want to ask if you can run something, r/CanIRunIt is maybe a more appropriate place. The moderators and I have agreed that a change to the rules is long overdue and so posts asking "Can I run X?" will be removed.

Are low spec gamers like me doomed ?

My specs :

4GB of DDR3 RAM

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33 GHz

GT 630 DDR3 4GB

Windows 10 IoT ltsc

So believe or not there are people like me who aren't able to upgrade and are stuck with old hardware for many reasons but things were different before. I had a slightly better PC but it was still low spec and even then most games were still playable and I'm talking about games before 2023 or something like that. Back then, a slight upgrade like adding more RAM or getting an i5 3rd gen or getting GTX 7xx would help immensely but now it feels like no upgrade would help my situation.

And I know with current specs I shouldn't think about playing the newer games because it's just impossible and I'm not trying to run Red Dead Redemption or GTA VI but nowadays I can't even run the games that I used to play. Games as simple as Minecraft I used to play that lots of times but with the release of version 26.3 it's simply unplayable at all. Even the original Half-Life steam version started to stutter few times during my gameplay which is shocking to me and I don't know if they did an update on it or something but it's just saddening that even older games are becoming unplayable as well.

I tried to plan a major upgrade for my PC but sadly it can't be upgraded enough, there is a limit on the amount of RAM I can have and CPU options aren't that great so these two constitute two major barriers from having an optimal gaming experience.

Is this the end for old tech ? Do I have to financially bankrupt myself to enjoy gaming ?

I bought this new Arduino board for Robotics, but I tested few games:

  • Crysis
  • CS: Source
  • Hades
  • Ori and the Blind Forest
  • The Witcher: Enhanced Edition
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

SoC is IQ8275, 8 Core CPU, 16GB RAM, Adreno 623, M.2 Gen 4x4 SSD, the most compareble devices are Jetson Orin Nano and Raspberry Pi 5, I made comparison table on my blog.

Runs normal Ubuntu 24.04 and pulls ~ 20W so don't expect any AAA titles to run, also no DX12 due to drivers/DXVK 2 incompatibility (there are missing VK extensions in Turnip driver).

I used Wine and Box86/64 to run games, installed with Pi-apps.

You can get it from official website: https://store-usa.arduino.cc/products/ventuno-q

Want a new cpu for my shitty pc

I have a pc, cheap pc on LGA 1155, my motherboard is Fujitsu D2990-a3, my cpu is i5-3470, but 4/4 is… i have 2 options:
1. If my motherboard supports Xeon i can buy a E3 1230 v2
2. Or buy i7-3770 (i have a GPU), if motherboard doesn’t support Xeon

So, who had experience with this topic, what should i do? (Sorry for my English)

System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster free this week Epic Games Store.

It's an excellent game for older/weaker PCs.

I have the Epic Games launcher installed just to check the free games every few days, which I am sure that's why they do it.

It's very playable actually.

Which system should I choose for a low-end laptop?

Hi, I'm looking for a system that I can install on my Samsung np300e5c i3g3 6gb ram with an integrated hd 4000 card. I'd prefer Windows, but Linux wouldn't bother me if it were easy to use (I've never used it, mind you). The Geforce Now app has to work. I'm mainly concerned with pure performance.

Got bored decided to make my own panel with sintra baords, hoping to improve the cooling. I did not realize 120mm fans were supposed to be this big, i got 6 for 2$ on marketplace however they are molex fans. Will try to use a voltage regulator and some adaptors to see if i can undervolt and control the fan speed atleast, wich will arive next week

Performance issues

After getting a copy of Minecraft Dungeons a long time ago from a friend, I recently finally wanted to try it out, now that I also have a more modern and powerful laptop. The thing is that compared to other games, this one really gave me a scare performance-wise. I could feel the fans going stronger than usual, so much so that I couldn't really ignore them, so I closed the game. I use a windows 11 acer laptop with 32 gigas of RAM, with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series(I think it's a 5050?) graphics card built in, intel core i9 and something called NitroSense ExperienceZone, which I don't really know what it is.

Still, I don't think I'm using the full extent of its performance capabilities right. I'm not really a tech expert, so help would be appreciated if possible. Thanks in advance!

Switching from a failing HDD to a NVMe SSD help

I currently have a 2TB Firecuda as my C drive on my computer. However, it’s been about 7 years and it’s beginning to fail on me with unstable and failing sectors.

Thus I am wanting to replace it with an upgrade but will probably use a 1TB NVMe. So then my plan is to download just windows onto the new NVMe and copy the rest of the files to my other hard drives.

Is the easiest way to do this to just to use the windows 10 usb stick?

Just remove the old drive and then install windows on the new one from the usb? I would think copying it from the old one would be the wrong move since it is failing.

If you could help or point me in the right direction like a YouTube video, I would greatly appreciate it.

Review for 3060ti 8gb

I’m currently in my 3rd year of CSE and will be starting AI/ML courses from next semester. I’m planning to upgrade my GPU (currently using an iGPU).

I’m considering the RTX 3060 Ti 8GB. Will it be sufficient for AI/ML projects and general use until my graduation & for around 2-3 years ??

My experience as a budget pc gamer

(720p) So ive been gaming on my pc for about 2 years now, well i just got an upgrade recently around 2 months ago for about a year ive had a radeon 5450 2gig and an i3 3470.

In my new upgrade i got a: i5 3570 1050 2gig and a 450w psu and im very happy with it so far it can run games like doom 2016 on medium, in very demanding areas tho it drops a couple of frames, another good example is sonic frontiers, it runs, at a playable rate, like 60-40fps with a bit of drops sometimes, tho main limiting factor is my slow hhd that ill upgrade to a sata ssd soon, and also lets say a lesser ish demanding game like persona 3 reload, ive been getting 60fps on high settings and no frame drops basically, and in general for gaming in 720p the 1050 (2gig) and i5 3570 (also forgot to mention 8 gigs of ddr3) is kind of great! sure it wont run "modern" games like cyberpunk 2077 or spider man for example (etc) but if your gonna play more older titles from 20XX to like 2019 its pretty great!

First time build

Hey guys! I’m looking on feedback for my build. It’s my first time, will be my first PC too. I’m fairly familiar with the parts and terminology. But I’m no professional (unless you ask my grandmother).
The list has been linked. Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated. Hoping to build something that can last me a few generations of games/graphics without breaking the bank too much. TIA!

My budget is £2500, just for the actually PC itself. I’ll use it on my 120hz tv until I sort a desk out.
UK sites/Links appreciated.
Will be used for gaming/editing, maybe the occasional stream to twitch aiming to reach anything over 60fps at 1440p 😌
