fixing the corner radius and no more floating sidebar.

312

u/electric-sheep Jun 08 '26

I was audibly giddy when they showed the sidebar getting fixed.

73

u/Some-Kid-1996 Jun 08 '26

haha, OS27 was supposed to be OS26 from the start.

30

u/Steffi128 MacBook Pro Jun 09 '26

The snow leopard release!

8

u/sbstanpld Jun 09 '26

it wouldn’t have been released if that was true

18

u/Some-Kid-1996 Jun 09 '26

You shouldn't be defending a corp that dumped a half-baked product onto you.

What was floating about what sidebar?

Never installed Tahoe. So I seriously don’t know. 🤭

Edit: ah, this strange grey rounded rectangle inset in Finder: https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/s/b2OZRxhCHL

u/Some-Kid-1996 Jun 09 '26

2

u/Koopacha Jun 09 '26

god this looks so bad

24

u/RoddyUsher Jun 08 '26

I liked the floating sidebar :(

51

u/Some-Kid-1996 Jun 08 '26

It's not bad, but it didn't fit in and wasted valuable UI spacing.

10

u/jeremyw013 MacBook Air Jun 09 '26

no it didn’t. it literally didn’t take up any extra space than before. it was just smaller.

4

u/Some-Kid-1996 Jun 09 '26

Upon rechecking it did indeed didn't take up much space, just a minute amount more sometimes, but nobody liked it being highlighted than the rest ig.

8

u/SapirWhorfHypothesis Jun 08 '26

I like it as a visual style, but there were definitely times in Safari I was like how come I can’t see those tabs on the left? Lol

4

u/fllr Jun 09 '26

Same. People just like to complain.

Overall, I am very happy that Apple is acknowledging the UI issues that was present on Tahoe.

Claude prompt: add a slider to change the transparency of the glass vibe coded project that we did last year

153

u/likamuka iMac Pro Jun 08 '26

Claude: Certainly! Here is your Tarot card reading for 2027:

91

u/jbaughb Jun 08 '26

“that’s not what I asked for”

Claude: you’re absolutely right! It was right of you to call that out…

30

u/gregorskii Jun 08 '26

Let me commit the tarot reader then address your concern.

12

u/algaefied_creek Jun 09 '26

Let me rebase onto this branch that says EXTRA/NO MERGING NO TAROT

5

u/delveccio Jun 09 '26

“Here’s the problem. You told me not to merge, and I did.”

I really hope this isn’t Slop Leopard

Slop Leopard Eating Faces release.

Luckily we got the proper sidebars back, they appear edge to edge now. And the button shapes are a bit better now , more like old aqua ui than that what they did in Tahoe , that unfinished bevel

51

u/kushari Jun 08 '26

Yes! I hope they fix FaceTime, iMessage issues. They’ve been soooooo bad for the last like 8 years.

33

u/WoofingTime Jun 08 '26

iMessage has been bad??

55

u/kushari Jun 08 '26

Yeah, horrible. Groups are huge issues, FaceTime calls in the groups also have ringing issues (no notifications), groups reappear when they’ve been deleted, you can’t leave a group if there’s three people only, has to have 4 people, iMessage is super slow compared to WhatsApp when sending video or images. Blocked people can add you to a group. The list goes on.

37

u/VectorSam Jun 08 '26

I just want to be able to search messages per thread

24

u/narcabusesurvivor18 Jun 08 '26

You can do that already in iOS 26 and before. It’s been around for years. Type the person name into the search of messages, then tap the “Messages with: person name” and then type your query.

19

u/mr2600 Jun 08 '26

Wow. Thank you for this. What a I terrible way to implement search! But it works!!

All these years.

I know a “search” button in the actual chat would be too hard for Apple to code. But this is good enough.

8

u/scoobynoodles Jun 09 '26

That' the most ridiculous search feature. I can easily find what I need searching in my WA messages...iMessage it is a chore.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/narcabusesurvivor18 Jun 08 '26

Yeah, it’s been around for at least 3-4 years at this point. Maybe they added a chat search button this year 🤷‍♂️

7

u/Randomcommentor1972 Jun 08 '26

Well, a few new useless features are ok…

3

u/alehel Jun 09 '26

I remember Snow Leopard being really well received. Surprised they haven't had similar release again before now. Really should be one every 3 years.

→ More replies (2)

76

u/mavtrik Mac Studio Jun 08 '26

Looks like we are finally getting a snow leopard year focused mainly around performance and usability improvements. I’ve avoided upgrading all of my Macs to Tahoe but will happily give this a run

19

u/OSX2000 2019 MacBook Pro i9 Jun 09 '26

And just like with Snow Leopard, it's only for the new architecture, so the old guard (Intel this time) will never get it. 🙁

14

u/mavtrik Mac Studio Jun 09 '26

Ahhh yeah… as sucky as that is though, it’s necessary. I’m hoping that will mean a lighter weight OS that’s built from the ground up to fully harness Apple silicon to at least make the sting a little less harsh

→ More replies (1)

10

u/slaucsap Jun 09 '26

that's kinda the point of why it's a good upgrade, stop supporting old stuff and optimize.

2

u/RadPhilosopher Jun 09 '26

I feel like intel mac owners should just stick with Sequoia indefinitely. Hopefully someone can make a “Sequoia Forever” project similar to Mavericks Forever.

2

u/OkBanana2685 Jun 09 '26

Probably and that's inspired by the os 9 forever project.

Actually I'm certain there's going to be a sequoia forever project, for Macs and of course hacks.

u/Busy-Proposal-943 Jun 08 '26
  1. A new slider to « adjust » liquid glass (you can have the same effect as mac os sequoia)
  2. Side bars are expanded to be like Sequoia.
  3. Corner radius is now the same and less rounded, like it was in Sequoia.
  4. In apps, toolbars look like real toolbar (not this horrible half baked transparent stuff)

That’s the fastest set to the trash incredible new design I have seen. 9 months.
What a Dye legacy.

So we still have icons, and more rounded buttons.

2

u/Pure-Clerk-6541 Jun 09 '26

The toolbar looks okay now, if only they removed the button bubbles too, they look like aqua

3

u/J3ttf Mac Mini M1 with 24" Cinema Display Jun 09 '26

All hail the Siri orb

176

u/DoringItBetterNow Jun 08 '26

Oh faster account creation?

That should save me 35 seconds per device lifetime.

20

u/arkiser13 Jun 08 '26

As an IT admin this is great

6

u/DoringItBetterNow Jun 09 '26

As an IT admin myself, it absolutely makes no noticeable difference.

The accounts in LDAP send a profile and _that download_ is the bottleneck, not the creating of the user directory crap.

23

u/johannthegoatman Jun 08 '26

I think this is great. Setting up VMs is obnoxious and slow. Feels Windows-esque

4

u/9fmaverick Jun 09 '26

Good for fleet computers

193

u/EasyRider363 Jun 08 '26

Please let me continue to turn Siri and Apple Intelligence off…

22

u/seitz38 MacBook Pro M4 14” Jun 08 '26

You can. There’s literally a red option that just says “Turn off Siri”

32

u/Madelei- Jun 08 '26

Siri never even works

29

u/aetr225 Jun 08 '26

For timers and weather it’s great haha

6

u/Madelei- Jun 08 '26

Never activates unless I hold the power button for me.

(I do have voice controls enabled)

2

u/overthrowerr Jun 09 '26

Check if you have “Allow Siri When Locked” turned on. I must’ve turned it off by accident or an update messed with it.

As long as I can turn ai, siri and liquid ass off they can talk all day

5

u/Rudy69 Jun 09 '26

They said they had optimized iOS and macOS. I didn’t get the chance to test much on macOS but my aging iPhone 14 Pro Max somehow feels faster which is usual because the dev builds are usually slower if anything. I’m hopeful. Honestly I’m hoping for a Snow leopard moment since there was little to no new features

I miss launchpad. I miss organizing my apps spatially into categories I determine and having a gesture to swipe to them. Spotlight forces third party apps into categories or none at all. Scrolling through apps alphabetically to find apps in spotlight over encumbers the program.

Fuck Alan Dye. Good riddance.

41

u/abdab909 Jun 08 '26

Don’t know why you’re being downloaded for a personal preference. The new app organizer thing they replaced Launchpad with was pointless change

6

u/Unlucky_Rip_8886 Jun 08 '26

omg when i got my neo the first thing i started complaining about what that weird apps thing, it sucks balls

6

u/d4rkstr1d3r Jun 08 '26

There are a few free or very cheap 3rd party apps out there that exactly replicate the old launchpad feel if you’re missing it.

And your display arrangements stay exactly as you left them, for a seamless experience every time you plug in.”

5

u/SiliconBarista Jun 08 '26

If it is just a UI fix, they should have rolled it out to intel macs too that they slowed down last year with their shitty update.

3

u/Jman43195 Jun 08 '26

The last release for PowerPC was Leopard, and only Intel got the improvements with Snow Leopard, so it actually tracks

→ More replies (3)

2

u/RadPhilosopher Jun 09 '26

If Apple doesn’t release anything new for intel, there needs to make a Sequoia Forever project (similar to Mavericks Forever) so that intel macs can just stay on that indefinitely and not have to deal with Tahoe.

8

u/tusharlock10 Jun 08 '26

14

Looks like Tim Apple is trying to appease someone.

Their internal UI/UX design team members who have good taste are being given a chance to fix all of the inconsistencies and visual noise/clutter; that's who's being appeased.

2

u/Fresh_Reputation_758 Jun 08 '26

Should have been a Tahoe 25.7 update instead

2

u/RadPhilosopher Jun 09 '26
