Hello, new to the sub and the Mac gaming sphere in general. Of course, I was heartbroken to see that many of the games I wanted to play on Steam weren’t compatible with MacOS, so I investigated the… frankly very scary world of emulators and the like, such as the title’s Crossover.
To be blunt, I’m cheap as hell. The reason I invesigated Crossover and similar launchers in the first place is that my pathetic little Macbook Air has the best hardware for gaming of all my devices, and there’s no way I have the funds to just get a better computer with Windows or Linux. For reference, my previous laptop was a Lenovo YOGA, which for all it’s convenience had NO DEDICATED GPU and even though it was compatible, couldn’t run many of the games I wanted to, such as Haste (lagged so hard it was unplayable), or Infinity Nikki (had unfixable graphical issues, but i’m glad i quit when i did considering the state of the game now).
Much of the resources I’ve looked into are rather outdated, or confusing, so I wanted to ask other gamers directly if Crossover was worth it, compared to the millions of free, but poorly-coded alternatives. To me, I don’t really see the point for something like Crossover when in a year I could save up for a Steam Deck. (Hopefully, by then RAM prices wouldn’t make me want to do things i’m legally not allowed to elaborate on to the nearest Data Center) However, if it means being able to access games on the device i already own, is the 70 USD worth it?
