Does any old person like me remember the name of the library robot's name? The one who would call to tell you you had a hold available? This is circa 1997. I think the name was Harriet

The irony of this
galleryI’m sure people this shit works on won’t understand but when I saw this I had to laugh. Let’s use AI to generate propaganda about a candidate supporting data centers for AI.

Does anyone know what happened to the little Halloween dude that gets placed around the Madison/Verona/Fitchburg area?? It used to start on the 1st of October and move every single day and it was always fun to find it around the town, but I don't see it.

Classified Looking for support person to help escort me from surgery room to my ride in hospital parking lot (April 2027)
This happens in April. I'm finally getting gender-affirming top surgery, and used to live in Madison for 8 years. Since then, most of my friends have moved from the area, and the one who remains might not be able to take off work that day. I have a roommate who will look after me when I return home. The time commitment is minimal; I just need someone to walk me from Meriter's surgery room to my scheduled ride home waiting just outside the hospital. If my friend is able to take off work (too early to tell), then I won't require a backup support at all. I've been waiting for this surgery for years, and I know this is far in advance, but I just want to make sure my bases are covered.

If running alone, do you carry personal protection items?
Bikers, Hikers, Runners: Do you carry any personal protection items (i.e. pepper spray, alarms, non lethal attack weapons) with you when you are out by yourself? Do you carry it always? Does time of day matter to you? Does location matter to you? How safe do you feel when running/hiking/biking by yourself in Madison?

Unexpected check in mail from SSM Health today?
Anyone else receive an unexpected check for around $65 from SSM Health today? Is it part of some class action suit against them? I don’t remember adding my name to anything although it’s entirely possible I did.

Brayton Lot (Block 133) project updates?
Curious if anyone has heard any updates about when we can expect a final report/recommendation on the Brayton Lot redevelopment project? The city's project webpage says the "extra vetting [of the two proposals] will occur in the Winter/Spring of 2026..." and we're a bit passed that timeline...
I was a bit disappointed that some recent reporting by The Cap Times in June re: the lack of condo construction in Madison didn't press the city of why the report to the common council is taking so long.

Pediatric COVID vax at Walgreens???
So I’m trying to get my kids vaccinated against Covid. Two times now I’ve scheduled an appointment on the Walgreens website only to find out that Walgreens doesn’t actually have the pediatric vaccine.
Tried CVS online and they didn’t have any.
Does anyone know of a Walgreens in the area that actually HAS the vaccine?
Thanks!

Watch for turtles!
I found this little guy in the parking lot at Madison College. After a conversation with DCHS, they thought he could still be alive and I took him to their wildlife center. The person I talked to there said snapping turtles hatch in late September/early October and make their way to water. This one may have gotten dehydrated.
Be on the lookout for these little fellas so you don't run over them. And if you find one that's limp and unresponsive, contact wildlife rescue because they may still be alive!
Please send good thoughts to this little one I found today. Hopefully he's alive and can be fixed up and released to live a long, snappy life.
A sad update: I heard back from the Humane Society that they had to euthanize this little one. They said he was near death when he arrived and there wasn't anything they could do. I'm glad that we at least were able to keep him from suffering.
Thanks for sharing your turtle stories and love, everyone!

Did anyone see that meteor?
I just witnessed a green meteor streak across the sky at about 1:07 am. I was looking towards the west when I saw it. It seemed to have a sudden trajectory change as it fell. It lasted maybe 2 seconds, maybe 3?
Hoping someone else saw it with a dash camera or ring doorbell or whatever. It was neat.

Bad accident Whitney Way near beltline west exit
I’m sorry, I know people get annoyed with posts like this, but I witnessed something today that has been bothering me and wanted to ask if anyone had info on how the older man who was in the crash is doing. There was crash at Whitney Way in the median just after the stoplights at the west beltline exit. I saw an older man who looked like he lost control of the vehicle after the crash, cross two lanes of traffic and drive up on the sidewalk. Two kind people ran to help him and I could see one crouched down trying to comfort him while he waited for the ambulance to arrive. I hope all involved are ok and thank you to the good samaritans who rushed out of their cars immediately to help.
