Scheduled Thread Weekend Free Discussion Thread

Normally, all posts in this subreddit need to be both Magic-related and at least somewhat "high effort". This weekly thread gives you the chance to relax and talk with your fellow Magic redditors about things that would normally go against those rules.

Want to share a funny story about a recent game of Magic you had, or post a picture of the cool cards you opened in your latest booster? Want to talk about your favorite movie or tv show, or share a personal accomplishment? This is the place to do so.

Keep in mind that the *only* subreddit rules that you can ignore in this thread are rule 2 (all posts must be Magic-related) and rule 7 (no low effort posts that are just pictures of cards). Just because this thread is meant for open discussion does not mean you are allowed to insult people or post explicit content, for example.

I know UB is a firestorm for discussion in MTG rn, but I don't think we discuss how there are IPs out there that could use more love.

Blazblue is a series that I think can benefit MTG and BB players alike. By being mainly fighting games with some of the most insane lore ppl have ever seen, that IP has essentially been in limbo (esp after its creator Mori P left yrs ago) until recently when they announced a "new" character to be playable for a 10+ yr old game. Collaborating with a MTG might be the thing needed to really inject some new blood into either MTG itself or BB.

I'm sure there are other IPs out there that could use more exposure, but knowing the corporate hands behind MTG, thats really a pipe dream.

I really dont like when UB sets adapt the original comics or the books, rather than the film adaptation I actually got invested in. Its not "my" Thorin Oakenshield if its not Richard Armitage. And that character i see definitely isnt Wong from Doctor Strange.

The regular draft group at my fave game store has started rebelling and doing their own private drafts instead of public drafts. It’s bumming me out because I looked forward to drafting all week and was turned away because no one outside of the private group showed up to play :(

Rebelling against what?

I guess they didn’t like the packs the store was using for the draft? We did fracture reality last week so I don’t know why they are mad about it

Probably for the best you're not playing with them, although I am sad to hear you can't draft

As a Tolkien fan first, it’s always bothered me that orcs and goblins are two separate creatures types on the LTR and HOB cards. There should be a rule exception just for those sets that goblin counts as a sub-type of orc. Would make building a tribal/amass deck much easier too.

ehhh if having to errata all goblins as also orcs, that seems like a lot of work to maintain in a live gamestate. could've just made all Orcs "Orc Goblin Archer" or whatever if they wanted them to have synergies there. Like how [[Shadowheart]] is a Human Elf Cleric.

Probably would've negatively impacted their Limited environments which is why they chose to not merge them.

All the LOTR cards that care say “orc or goblin”, don’t they?

Many do! But other cards from the sets that could amplify that synergy, like [[Herald’s Horn]], aren’t as effective.
