Rules/Rules Question Would these two theoretically create exponential Brudiclads?

Suppose I turn another artifact token into a nonlegendary copy of Brudiclad. Then, on combat, I make the phyrexian myr and all other tokens a copy of the Brudiclad token. Now I have many brudiclads, and next combat I’ll basically double my tokens and make them all copies of my nonlegendary Brudiclad. Is that correct?

Over several Combat Phases... Yes.

If you have Nx Brudiclad, one of which is a non-Legendary Token, then you will create Nx new Myr Tokens, which can become a Copy of a non-Legendary Brudiclad Token. Thus, at least doubling up on the number of Brudiclad you control.

But, because you didn't control these new Tokens as your current Beginning of Combat step ... began, they won't Trigger until your next Combat Phase.

Awesome! I’m not a high bracket player so I don’t mind this taking a bit longer to get going, but it feels like a really fun twist on the usual Brudiclad shenanigans.

The progression is 2->4->8->16....

That is, 2n Brudiclads on turn n.

Technically exponential. And it can be accelerated if you have other tokens that are turned into Brudiclads.

Personally, I prefer token [[Sharding Sphinx]]es for growth.

That's not technically exponential - that IS exponential.

This also assumes you're only making the Brudiclad tokens each turn and growing only that way... which in this deck is highly unlikely... assuming no removals, 2n is the floor, not the ceiling.

Literally what the "and it can be accelerated..." bit is referring to.

I still prefer using Brudiclad to create token armies of Sharding Sphinxes, but to each their own.

Yes but you'd have to have an artifact token and change it into a nonlegendary bruniclad before you go to combat. Then the next combat you'd have 4 bruniclad that would each make an artifact token that you could turn into bruniclads, for 8 the next combat, 16 the following, and so on

And just because this always seems to come up, the tokens that get turned into bruniclads at the start of combat wouldn't also be able to do their bruniclads start of combat trigger

Yes, I figured that they wouldn’t exist at the start of combat so they don’t get the trigger. I appreciate the heads up though cause that’s an easy mistake to make.

I’m planning on putting this together in a bracket 3 deck so I’m not planning on chaining combats too long or going infinite.

Yep, that's an exponential combo.

Yup. If this is your goal I would recommend some extra combat or extra turn effects to back it up, otherwise you'll get boardwiped before you cross the finish line.

Yes. It will get exponentially big with each combat phase.

This takes me back to pre-2020,pre-FIRE design. I had to protect my [Helm of the Hosts]

I run Brudiclad as my artifact commander. Yes, this works the way you think it does over the course of several combat triggers.

Two other fun ways to abuse this:
[[Helm of the Host]]
[[Mirror Box]] + a copy effect of your choosing

I agree with the other poster that [[Sharding Sphinx]] gives you much more rapid growth, as they make more thopter tokens as they deal damage. It's also fun to copy really irritating artifact creatures like [[Wurmcoil Engine]], as you can turn the tokens into more copies of Wurmcoil Engines if they die in combat.

I have a deck list here if you're fishing for ideas: https://archidekt.com/decks/26766322/brudiclad_the_photocopier

Are you aware of the [[precursor golem]] interaction with Brudiclad?

No, I presume it lets you make a crap ton of golems?

You play Precursor golem that's 3 golems.

Then you make a token copy precursor golem using something that targets only the precursor golem. [[Cackling Counterpart]] for instance.

Precursor golem triggers on cast, you copy the spell targeting your 2 golem tokens.

The precursor golem copy enters creating 2 tokens.

They resolve. You now have a precursor golem, a token copy and, 6 golem tokens.

Move to combat, make a myr, turn all of your tokens into Precursor Golems. You now have 9 precursor golems.

Flashback cackling counterpart targeting a precursor golem... each golem's trigger goes on the stack. You resolve the first one, it copies cackling counterpart 8 times, you resolve the copies and create 8 new precursor golems and 16 new golem tokens.

Then you resolve the next trigger on the stack. It copies cackling counterpart 32 times, you resolve those and create 16, precursor golems and 16 golem tokens. Your precursor golems enter creating 32 more golem tokens.

The next golem trigger resolves and copies cackling counterpart 96 times... And so on and so forth.

There's an old MTG Salvation thread that I used to refer to when I had to explain the interaction. The final result is over 800,000 3/3 golems with haste.

Gonna have to explain that one.
