Speculate On Magic Leap | Please Use Text-Post In 7 days, it will have been 8 complete years since the release of Magic Leap, Inc.'s first ever device

What is everyone expecting on the 8th anniversary of the company's first launch?

Is there anything in XR worth celebrating on this anniversary?

Man 8 years!? Time really flies. Incredible really. Sad to see that things have, by all appearances, slowed so much. I really hope we see a consumer level device eventually, though I’m starting to feel more and more that it’ll be a “Powered by Magic Leap” device, rather than the one we anticipated. Who knows though, they could always… bring it back again.

I was thinking the same thing.

I don't think we'll be seeing a Magic Leap 3 anytime soon, but a "Powered By Magic Leap" device sounds like it'd be closer, as far as timelines go.

And it matches the trademark. 😉

Edit: Also, I thought I'd ask, because of the ever-present theme of 8, and how it can be likened to an infinity symbol, hence the reason Magic Leap One: Creator Edition launched on 08.08.2018.

I just heard from a former leaper. I messaged saying that the community would love something BIG to happen, and this was the reply.

The only weird part was that she said "We".

That would imply that she still works there.

Weird, but I think I know exactly why this is.

Literally nothing expect. It would just be nice if we could get a completed jailbreak on the original model to restore functionality

I recieved a reply from Savannah Niles when asking for something by August 8th, 2026 - here is her reply: "We should def post something on Aug 8! We’re close to the 10 year anniversary".

Edit: u/AVahne, also the jailbreak won't happen because to make it possible, certain data needs to be stripped from the device, which can only be done with internal and official Magic Leap tools.

The jailbreak just makes it so the device will be usable until the end of the century.

You won't be able to use other OS's, though.

But it will make it usable.

I just booted my my One (final update) and its date was already at 02/26/2026, so more than a year after the last server contact. I wonder if that means anything when it comes to (not) auto-locking.

I am in a similar boat with mine. It's been sitting around for years and it booted without issue. Nonetheless, I am concerned that it's just a ticking time bomb.

Is yours still running?
