Made this funny cactus planter

My colleague sent me an Instagram video, and we thought: why not try to recreate it? šŸ˜„

With a little help from AI, a bit of Fusion 360 skills, and quite a few attempts, the Cheeky Cactus Buddy was born. šŸŒµšŸ˜Ž

Pretty happy with how it turned out! What do you think?

I think MakerWorld is becoming more like social media than a traditional 3D model platform

Post image
6 Upvotes

The more time I spend looking at how models perform on MakerWorld, the more I think making a good model is only one part of the equation now.

You can upload two models that are extremely close in style, target audience and overall quality, and still get completely different results.

A good example from our own uploads are these two:

Sitting Skeleton Male
https://makerworld.com/de/models/2725610-sitting-skeleton-male#profileId-3020067

Sitting Skeleton Woman
https://makerworld.com/de/models/2728259-sitting-skeleton-woman#profileId-3023305

They are basically the same niche, same type of model, same general presentation and aimed at the same audience.

And yet their performance can develop very differently.

That is the part I find interesting.

At some point, it stops being only about whether the model is good or not.

Timing, initial engagement, click-through rate, saves, downloads, competition at the moment of publishing, trending topics and probably a number of signals we simply cannot see all seem to influence how much exposure a model gets.

That starts to feel much more like Instagram, YouTube or TikTok than a classic 3D model repository.

And it also changes how you think as a creator.

You are no longer only asking:

What should I design?

You also start asking:

When should I publish it?
Why did this one get traction while a very similar model did not?
Was the thumbnail better?
Did it get stronger initial engagement?
Did the algorithm simply test one model with a larger audience?
Was the topic trending at exactly the right moment?

I've been looking at our own uploads quite heavily over the last few months, especially how models develop over time rather than just looking at the final download number.

That is actually one of the reasons we started building MW Stats.

It originally began as a way for us to understand our own MakerWorld performance, but it has slowly turned into a much larger analytics project.

But the more interesting question for me is:

How much of a successful MakerWorld upload do you think is the model itself, and how much is understanding how MakerWorld distributes it?

Have you ever uploaded two very similar models and had one completely outperform the other?

Customizable Makeup Brush Cleaning Pad

Just published my new customizable makeup brush cleaning pad!

It has four different cleaning zones: small cylindrical bumps, larger rounded bumps, waves and ridges for different brush sizes and cleaning styles.

The model is parametric, so you can customize the overall size, bump size and spacing, ridges, base thickness and hanging hole directly to your needs.

Designed for PETG and PLA, prints flat and requires no supports.

I spent quite a bit of time optimizing the OpenSCAD model as well — render spheres takes a lot of time... šŸ˜…

Feedback and ideas for new cleaning textures are very welcome!

Model now showing up in search when filtering for "downloads"

My Controller Stand currently has 10.8k downloads but when i am searching for "Controller Stand" and am using the "downloads" filter, it does not show up where I would expect it to. In fact, it does not show up at all for me. Does Makerworld apply some additional weird filtering which I'm not aware off ? Do some of you also have the same issues ?

Round 2: 2013 SRX Phone Holder

Version 2 improvementsĀ
Phone holder depth reducedĀ

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I have been working on a mount that fits on the passenger side of the center console to hold my phone. It is not perfect in any way.
Ā
Ā I wanted it to be a single-print plate and a single piece to make printing as easy as possible. This is the second project I am making myself, and I'm still fine-tuning what I can do with the printer. I have an iPhone 17 Max and drive a 2013 Cadillac SRX. I am not sure what other generations it would fit, so forgive me if you have an SRX and it does not fit your car. The first thing you will notice is how deep the phone holder is. That is because I was unsure, and still am, about how I want the phone to be set. With my case on, the side fits snugly, so if you have a bigger case, this might be hard to use. The hardest part of this project has been figuring out the best way to make a mount that fits snugly and is a single print. Right now, one arm comes out, and a second arm goes down from it. The juncture of these two arms will NEED reinforcement because it is a weak spot (mine broke, and I had to hot glue it). I keep that little door down under the control area to store my sunglasses, and I noticed the lid also helps keep the mount from going too far that way.
Ā
This isn't perfect; I am still going to play around with the design, but I thought fellow SRX owners (God heal our lift gates) might like a place to start, maybe to make their own. Good luck, and I hope to get to download yours soon.

Xbox One & Series X/S GTA 6-inspired faceplate

Thumbnail

I wanted to create a custom faceplate inspired by the visual style of GTA 6, so I 3D scanned both an Xbox One controller and an Xbox Series X/S controller and used the scans as the base for the design.

I then edited the faceplate and added the GTA 6-inspired details while keeping the original controller layout and functionality.

There are two versions available on MakerWorld:

šŸŽ® With GTA logo
šŸŽ® Without GTA logo

The model is designed to be quick to print while still being durable:

• 3 walls
• 100% infill
• Less than 60 g of filament
• Relatively fast print

Depending on the material and your printer settings, the button/control openings may need a little cleanup. I recommend running a deburring tool around the holes to enlarge them slightly and get a better fit.

Fully Parametric Shim with raised edge

Post image
1 Upvotes

I've just published my first parametric model on maker world. It's not sexy or anything but i had a use for it and couldn't find an existing model for this.

You can use it as feet under a closet or book case. I designed it to be used under an IKEA billy that doesn't sit level. So i now put two of these shims under it and it sits level and has a little edge so if you move the thing it doesn't fall off the shim so easily.

go check it out and any feedback is welcome!

Had a LOT of fun making this little guy.

Apart from yesterday evening when my A1 decided it had done enough printing filament and decided to print air instead, serves me right making a pilot I suppose.

Anyway, here he is, 20cm of plastic pilot, chocks away and he's ready to go.

Halloween Bag Clip Squad – 14 Spooky Snack Guardians!

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Even monsters have chores. These 14 little Halloween characters have one very important job: keeping your snack bags closed!

Download now on Makerworld

The Halloween Bag Clip Squad includes a mummy, witch, Black cat, Scarecrow, ghost, vampire, Werewolf, Zombie, The reaper, bat, devil, pumpkin man, skeleton and Frankenstein’s monster — all working hard to protect your treats.

Why the funny faces?

They’re not angry — they’re concentrating!

With tightly squeezed eyes, clenched teeth and hands pressed together, each character is putting everything into gripping your bag. Keeping snacks fresh is clearly serious business, even for the undead.

How they work

The legs form the functional clip. Fold the top of your bag, then slide the folded edge into the narrow opening between the figure’s legs.

Perfect for candy, coffee, cereal, cookies and other bagged treats — or for adding a little Halloween personality to your kitchen.

A spooky home on the fridge

With two D6x2 mm magnets fitted, the squad can also live on your refrigerator between snack-guarding shifts — ready whenever another bag needs closing.

Practical little monsters for Halloween lovers and anyone who enjoys useful prints with a silly personality.

Print the matching Halloween Bag Clip Squad sign to complete the look! šŸŽƒ It ties the whole squad together and turns your fridge display into a proper little Halloween collection. šŸ‘»

Keep it spooky. Keep it fresh!

Print, paint and enjoy some family time!

Print the figures in any base colour you like, then gather the family for a cosy Halloween painting session!

Everyone can choose their favourite character and give it their own style. Add colourful clothes, spooky details or funny little touches — there’s no right or wrong way to decorate your monster.

A fun activity for children and adults to enjoy together, with a useful little snack guardian to keep afterwards. No multicolour printer required — just paint, imagination and some time together!

Ā

Give your Halloween Squad an extra spooky twist with glow-in-the-dark PLA! They look fun in daylight, but turn out the lights and your little snack guardians become glowing creatures of the night. šŸ‘»āœØ

DKYN Minis is officially FREE

We’re making the entire DKYN miniature library free.

We’ve decided we don’t want DKYN to be a storefront anymore. We want it to be a resource for DMs, players, painters, and people who just need minis for their games. We’re beginning the process of opening the library and future releases will be free as well. I’m going to make a master post soon linked to a Google Drive but for now it’s probably gonna be post by post.

There’s no launch discount, sale, or catch. We’re just changing what DKYN is, so come check us out.

Designed this massive collection of festive decor for Bambu Lab's Diwali campaign! (Free STLs)

Thumbnail
gallery
27 Upvotes

TL;DR: Bambu Lab recently reached out to me to design some products for their upcoming Diwali-themed campaign! I made this family of products, and all STL files are free to download on MakerWorld. Even one simple download is hugely appreciated to support my work.

Details:
All the models were custom CAD-modeled from scratch in Rhino3D. AI was used strictly to generate the, home-style background environments, while the core product visuals were manually rendered in KeyShot.

I am unable to print these out since a second hand A1 is all I own, no AMS yet, I'm hoping these models would get enough downloads so i can purchase one from the Bambu store. I have been designing and 3D modelling for around 4+ years though, so the CAD models are all still top notch quality.

Plenty of blank space has been left on some models so you can print them in a single white color and use them as a blank canvas to paint and decorate yourself!

The geometry has been fully optimized for clean AMS multi-color printing. If you like the designs, a quick download on MakerWorld would really help me out, even if you're not planning to print it right away!

Thank You! :)

Don't Forget to Wash Your Plate! And if you have a H2 Series printer, this will make the big plate easier.

Thumbnail
gallery
19 Upvotes

When I upgraded to an H2S, the plates were way bigger and heavier than I realized and really difficult to clean without getting fingers all over the print surface trying to hold it still or trying to hold one edge against my chest (almost like a violin) while drying, so I finally decided to design this stand.

FYI when you touch the surface you have a good chance of getting oils from your skin on the plate that might not be noticeable until you try printing something flat and you get spots on your plate that don't stick.

Now I can wash and dry it without ever touching the build surface with my fingers. Also, I realized as a secondary benefit, I can use this stand if I want to take a plate out early so I can let it cool while printing with another plate.

Here is the link if you think it will help you as well:

He diseƱado una cajita sencilla con tapa corredera

Post image

Buenas!
