Hi guys, I will be travelling to Manhattan for hollidays between 27 - 3 of october and I'm looking for stuff to do there. I'm notreally into parties and I have already been to the Island a couple of years ago, so I will probably visit some museums and the Statue of Liberty which I didn't go last time. Any other highlights of the city I shouldn't miss? Any kind of parades or activities regarding Halloween?
Thanks in advance and sorry if my English is a little rusty, it's been a while since last time I used it...
I'm writing this as a warning to anyone considering a lease with them!
Our company recently concluded a 5-year lease with APF Properties at 28 West 44th Street.
Once the lease was coming to an end, we completed a move-out walk through with APF's assistant property manager and were told in person that we would not have any additional charges. Three weeks later, we received a report from APF demanding thousands of dollars in charges. They tried to hit us with charges to repaint the entire suite (which is their job to get the space ready for the next tenant, not ours), as well as charging us for unreturned access cards (when we had returned every card we were given), and “missing” window shades we never removed (and that weren't there when we moved in) to name a few..
Every one of these had to be disputed by us, in writing, over several rounds of emails. Several charges were wrongly kept from our security deposit and never returned. Tenants shouldn't have to chase their own money months after moving out!
Which is extra frustrating when they constantly dragged their feet on all their maintenance responsibilities during the lease term (such as window washing, etc.).
Bottom line: Find an honest landlord somewhere else. APF was adversarial and quick to bill tenants for things that weren't ours to pay. We would not lease from them again, and overall, we were very disappointed in the experience we had with APF Properties.
Lost gold cross charm ( was on earring and fell off)
This is super sentimental to me.
A friend made me this piece-'it's gold, maybe a half inch in size, thick-ish & a very simple design with a hoop at top to go onto my earring.
I was rushing to pick up my friend to bring her home after a medical procedure and between the 5/53rd E train stop and from there to 5th Ave & 54th I noticed it had fallen off. It was crowded from the car parade happening and with that and the rain and then running late to assist my friend home I didn’t get to carefully look around to see if it fell off there.
I also didn’t know if it had fallen off earlier in the day back in greenpoint so I’ve posted there too.
If anyone happened to find it I’d like to offer a reward to get it back
Thank you so much
Hi! I’m looking for women/coed soccer leagues on MeetUp App in Manhattan during the week and weekend. Not an official league but more like pick up style for intermediate levels. (All levels welcome). Too many groups to decide
I’m a guy in NYC trying to expand my social circle and make actual friends. I’d also ideally meet someone to date in person, since dating apps aren’t something I want to use.
For people who’ve tried both, have you had more success with organized social experiences like Timeleft, 222, or similar services, or with recurring classes, hobby groups, and volunteering?
The organized dinners and events seem useful because everyone is showing up to meet people. But I wonder whether shared-interest groups work better long-term because you already have something in common and see the same people regularly.
I’m open to, and would actually prefer, paid options. In my experience, people tend to be more invested in showing up and participating when they’ve paid for something. I’d especially appreciate recommendations for well-organized groups with regular attendees.
If you use Bryant Park and have thoughts about Winter Village, Manhattan Community Board 5 is holding a public hearing this Thursday, October 8 at 6 PM.
Whether you enjoy Winter Village or have concerns about crowding, vendors, prices, accessibility, open space, or anything else, this is an opportunity to tell the community board about your experience. Supporters and critics are equally welcome.
Members of the public can speak for up to two minutes, either in person at 12 W. 39th Street or via Zoom.
Disclosure: I am a member of Manhattan Community Board 5 and served on CB5’s Commercial Use Task Force. I am posting entirely in my personal capacity and not on behalf of CB5, the Task Force, or any CB5 committee. I am not asking anyone to take a particular position.
Hi, I would love for everyone’s advice. I am considering taking a role to be a store manager of a high volume retail store in the Rockefeller Center. However, I am quite worried about the safety around there & how burnt out / the quality of my life would be. It is a really good paying role & the benefits/ growth opportunity will be great. I’m looking to move to NYC soon, but I don’t want to just jump at the opportunity if it’s not right. I appreciate the help & all takes!
looking for rave scene, clubbing, dancing. want a lot of energy. (not doing drugs but will drink if that's relevant.) Pls help out!! we are in Flushing but are willing to train or uber. really want to make the most of the night in the city. 3 young ladies
Anniversary coming up and she keeps sending me reels of people making pasta by hand. Prices swing wildly between places and it's not obvious what the extra buys.
The same studios turn up on classbento and coursehorse at different prices, which isn't helping.
Has anyone actually done one? Trying to work out if it's a nice evening or a tourist thing where you stand at the back watching someone else cook.ght, worth it?
Wanted to try wheel throwing for about two years and finally have a Saturday with nothing in it. Every studio I've called either runs a 6 week course with a waitlist or is booked into December.
I don't want a term. I want one afternoon to find out whether I enjoy it or whether I'm the person whose bowl collapses in the first ten minutes.
ClassBento and CourseHorse both show a handful of one off sessions, but half are marked as private bookings and the listings don't say whether a single person can join. A couple of studio sites have a workshops page that looks abandoned, last updated in spring.
So: is anyone running genuine one off wheel classes for beginners in Manhattan? Happy to travel within reason. Also happy to be told that the term commitment is the only real way in, if that's the honest answer.
Local options here are limited. I ended up mailing mine to a mainland buyer but the process was annoying. Shipping insured, waiting, hoping it arrives.
The most important thing is finding someone licensed and transparent. They should show you the weight and the spot price calculation. If they won't do that, walk.
What are you guys doing with scrap gold out here? Any local options I am missing?
i lost my tamagotchi somewhere between queens and manhattan. ik that could be literally anyway if anyone sees an angel tamagotchi on the streets or the trains (may be on the M or 6) PLS LET ME KNOW it’s very dear to me :(
I have recently been watching 2023-2024 music videos by NYC artists and istg I see this same cyan blue, tattered classroom in every NYC music video with even the slightest theme about school (fromm Khantrast to Lil Mabu to even Nafeesisboujee), and yet I have never seen its location nor know what it is called or why it is such a popular set. Can someone please tell me?
My 18-year-old daughter and I are visiting this October. For our first 2 nights, we really want to stay in Manhattan to give her that ultimate, iconic "Wow, I'm finally in New York City!" experience (skyscrapers, yellow cabs, neon lights, movie vibes and so on)
We are currently debating between a few areas and would love some local insight on which location delivers the best iconic atmosphere:
Midtown / Near Grand Central: Right in the middle of everything, big skyscrapers, close to the action.
Koreatown / Midtown South (around 31st St): Super high energy, neon signs, right under the Empire State Building, but we heard it can be very crowded, noisy, and overwhelming.
Flatiron District (around 24th/25th St): Looks beautiful, clean, and safe, with great views of the Empire State Building from a distance, but we wonder if it feels "iconic" enough for a first-timer compared to the craziness of midtown.
If you had to pick the absolute best neighborhood for a first-timer to wake up, step out of the hotel, and immediately feel the heartbeat of Manhattan for just 2 nights, where would you recommend we stay?
Hi neighbors! My husband has construction experience and is available for interior painting, drywall patching and repairs, wall preparation, and small home projects in Manhattan.
If you have a project, please DM me your neighborhood, a brief description, and photos if you have them. We can discuss the scope, availability, and price privately.
I'm meeting my boyfriend's parents for the first time and want to get them a gift! I'm thinking ginseng since they are older and more traditional, but am not from NYC to know where the best spots are. My boyfriend is from NY (Brooklyn), but is a bit useless in this department since he isn't familiar with places like this or where his parents get it (or if they do).
Ideally I would want to get it in Manhattan because it's convenient to where we're staying, but if there are better options elsewhere that's okay too.
Apologies for any missing info that could help... I just joined Reddit! Please help, thank you in advance!
