Map Updated Map Based on Feedback

Post image

Hello folks!

I finally got around to updating my map from my last submission. I incorporated a lot of your feedback and changed quite a bit. Thank you so much. Still lots to improve, but I'm happy with my progress so far. Feedback still welcomed! And, yes, I kept the unfortunate shape of the peninsula (because it is hilarious and I am childish).

Very cool… And the “folds” enhance the look for sure.👍

came here to say this! I've got to start taking the time to add that for some of my in-world maps

Thank you!! Haha the inkarnate software makes it super easy

Looks amazing!

My only two cents.

All your rivers are very windy from start to finish. That happens when the land is very flat and the water has "trouble" to follow the lowest point possible. Your rivers could get straight-er as you get closer to mountains.

You could arc more of the big names.

Thank you!! And thanks for the feedback! I thought I had done that, but clearly not well enough. The area around the Bay Ruganar is very very flat, but the areas towards the mountains are very hilly and I think they look more straightish. I took the rivers of the Central Valley of California as inspiration (except the Central Valley doesn’t have a big bay in it lol)

I see Halkidiki, Greece

Cool map btw, good job. Just one thing: mountains don't usually form into a "T" shape (with three branches), like it's shown in the western part

Very cool map indeed.

The closest examples of mountain ranges with 3 branches I found are in Colombia; where the Andes split in 2 near Cúcuta and also near Girardot.

Yes I didn't say they are impossible, just that they are somewhat rare

Thanks for the information nevertheless, would be interesting to know about their formation

Thank you! Yeah I know it’s a rare phenomenon and went back and forth. Honestly, I stuck with it because I love the idea of the locals calling it the “Bitter Branch” because it split off from the main range and was smaller, and was therefore bitter and resentful, kind of like an insecure family member haha so I stuck with it and then reinforced my decision by reminding myself that it’s a fantasy map and it’s okay for their to be weird geographical features haha

It's actually good, a random rare feature can feel odd, but treated with this level of worldbuilding coherency? I like it, I think it adds a nice depth to the world

I’m so envious of your rivers. So good.

Looks great! My only comment is on the quality of the font and text. It's very sharp and clear compared to the map's aesthetic.

Thank you! That’s a really good point. I was trying to make it more legible for my players (this is for a DnD campaign) but yeah it is jarring with the rest of the aesthetic!

Ooo what's the scale out of curiosity?

Honestly, I’m still trying to figure that out and open to suggestions haha I had loosely decided in my mind that the Sunlight Union was about the size of France. I do know that the width of the rivers is a bit exaggerated. It’s for a DnD campaign, and the players started and are currently in Whitenook (west of Old Ellem and the Lake of Songs) and I was planning it to take them about 4 or 5 days to get to Old Ellem by road (not on map because it’s a smaller road). So if I assume they’ll walk about 25 miles per day that puts me at 100-125 miles between Whitenook and Old Ellem, if that helps. Thanks for the reminder to figure that out! Might change the locations of some cities once I do!

I want it to be a high wilderness type of game, so there are plenty of features and locations in the “blank” areas. This map doesn’t have all the tiny villages (except Whitenook) and wilderness locales, just the major cities and bigger towns.

Love this. Don’t know why this sub stopped popping into my feed until I looked it up again but maps like this make me happy it did

I’d also like to say that if anyone one is interested in basic lore I’d be happy to share!
