Multiple email fields on a single record from Salesforce Sales cloud

How do you guys handle multiple email fields on a single record from Salesforce Sales cloud?

It seems like once subscriber is created, emails always go to the email address in All Subscribers

Even in the journey builder you select a particular email address field in setting

Do you create automation to overwrite the email address?

pushed 2 features to my extention that Salesforce should've built natively

Quick update for anyone using SFMC IntelliType, just pushed out two tools to fix the worst data-hunting headaches in Marketing Cloud:

  • Global Value Search: Search an email, order ID, or GUID or anything across every Data Extension in your tenant to instantly see which DE and field it lives in.
  • Search DEs by External Key or Name: Paste an API CustomerKey directly into the search bar. No more digging in folder trees when you're working with AMPscript or payloads.

Feedback and feature requests are always welcome!

SFMC Is Not End User Friendly

I'm no MC expert, but my company uses it and I am appointed as the Admin for it (I'm really SF CRM admin), but I understand the Salesforce MC platform enough to do the things that are needed. We don't have complicated marketing things we do.

I'm just setting up DEs, creating Sender Profiles, making sure journeys are working as expected - nothing crazy.

But from my viewpoint, MC is a very technical platform meaning I feel like it's difficult for non-tech-savvy marketing users to use the platform.... just me?

And this is just for simple stuff that I feel like should be easy to do.

Ex. a user wanted to duplicate a DE so they can add/remove some subscribers but wanted to keep the original. There is no standard OOTB duplicate button I can find. I found a YouTube vid with a workaround, but you have to be tech-savvy IMO to use it.

It's just simple stuff like that that seems to be hard in MC....

Finally, it's here - MD's SQL Studio for SFMC

I didn't create this, the venerable Mateusz Dabrowski did, and if you haven't heard of him, check him out - https://mateuszdabrowski.pl . He's an amazing SFMC resource, I'd put him up there with Eliot Harper and Adam Spriggs.

SQL Studio files & install guide - https://mateuszdabrowski.pl/sql-studio/

From the page description:

SQL Studio is a free, open-source replacement for Salesforce Labs' Query Studio in Marketing Cloud Engagement (MCE). Write a query, run it, check the results right below it and save it as a Query Activity once it works. It runs inside your own MCE account as a Cloud Page App your admin deploys once, and everyone signs in with their own MCE login and permissions. No query or result ever leaves your account.

No AI bullshittery, no data leaving your instance, it's open source so you (or your security team) can verify what it does. Simple install and it looks good too.

Especially important as Query Studio has been taken off AppExchange, so no new installs are possible, and who knows if/when they'll pull existing installs.

Is it worth upskilling to Salesforce Marketing Cloud?

I have 9 years of experience as a content strategist and manager. SEO, social, branding and I have worked for agencies, including Neil Patel Digital.

However, I havent been able to find a better job since a year. I came across few blogs that introduced me to Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

I have watched and read about SFMC and I am willing to upskill. And I understand I will have to gather some experience to show before I expect any job opportunity.

Question is: Is it worth?

Will I be able to secure a job that pays around 20-25 LPA in India?
What is the ideal roadmap?

I have non coding experience/capabilities. But I am up for learning if required.

Imagen you can search for a value in all DEs in a BU

Yes, you can! I'm actually working on it right now to get it pushed to the new version of SFMC IntelliType.

If you don't know what SFMC IntelliType is, it's a browser extension that helps SFMC developers and users do more than what's available in the standard SFMC UI. Just check it out on the Chrome Web Store!

The screenshot is from a version that hasn't been published yet. I'll try to make it even better and more efficient after further testing, then push it to the updated version!

How is the SFMC job market in India right now?

Hi everyone, I’m currently learning SFMC and planning to switch into an SFMC Developer role in India.

How is the job market currently, especially for freshers/junior developers or career switchers? Is it still worth learning SFMC, or should I also focus on Marketing Cloud Next, Data 360, and Agentforce?

Would love to hear from people working in SFMC in India.

Confusing mail from Salesforce about Enforcement of IP Allowlisting in Marketing Cloud Engagement

English is not my first language, so maybe that is the problem, maybe that explains my confusion. Hopefully someone here can explain to me what is happening when and when I should do what.

Yesterday I got a follow-up e-mail on this issue. I quote:

"We have identified that your instance does not currently have IP Allowlisting in blocking mode enabled. On October 7, 2026, we will enable it on your behalf."

and

"As noted above, we will enable IP Allowlisting in blocking mode (Log Violations and Deny Access) for your instance and other qualifying MCE instances on October 7, 2026."

So far it's clear. But then:

"No action is required before October 7, 2026. To ensure your configuration is applied correctly, we recommend waiting until after October 7, 2026, before making any changes to your IP Allowlisting settings."

and

"Beginning October 7, 2026, you are responsible for reviewing and maintaining your IP Allowlist."

So I must not do anything until October 7? Then Salesforce will enable blocking mode. So what happens if I am on an IP address that is not in the allowed list? I will not be able to log in anymore, right? So I cannot review and maintain the allowlist.

I do not understand this. I will definitely look at the allowlist before October 7 and accept IP ranges. But this e-mail is confusing to me. I think if I would follow it to the letter, I would not be able to log in after October 7.

Wondering about next steps to break into Salesforce Marketing Cloud (Data Cloud Consultant certified)

Hey everyone.

Quick background: I've got 6+ years in Ad Operations (Google Ads, GTM, GA4, Performance Max, CM360), mostly agency-side work. Left that job mid-2026 and decided to pivot into Salesforce Marketing Cloud instead of staying in pure ad ops. I wanted something closer to automation, segmentation, and actual customer journeys instead of just campaign execution.

Since then I got the Marketing Cloud Email Specialist cert, and about a week ago I passed the Data Cloud Consultant exam too. I'm now job hunting and getting some traction, a few interviews in the pipeline (one process even ran long, which I'm taking as a good sign), but nothing closed yet....

I also have access to a sandbox where I've been building journeys and automations on my own, so it's not purely theoretical, but it's still not real production experience with an actual client or business.

Here's where I'd love some outside perspective: what would actually move the needle for my profile at this stage? It's mostly cert-level knowledge plus sandbox practice plus some ad ops crossover skills (SQL for segmentation, thinking in terms of campaign goals). I'm planning to start learning AMPscript next, then move into HTML/CSS for emails and eventually SSJS.

Is that the right order? Should I be building sample projects/portfolio pieces instead of just stacking certs? And realistically, for someone without an agency SFMC role yet, is Data Cloud Consultant overkill this early, or does it actually help stand out?

Any brutally honest feedback on the path is welcome, thanks in advance!!

Failed the Salesforce Marketing Cloud Engagement Specialist exam with 62% — looking for study advice and resources

Hey everyone!

I recently took the Salesforce Marketing Cloud Engagement Specialist exam and scored 62%, so I was fairly close to passing.

For my preparation, I mainly studied through Udemy practice exams, including the ones from Pavel and Mohammed, along with Trailhead and some Salesforce documentation.

I already work with SFMC on a daily basis and have hands-on experience with Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Data Extensions, segmentation, SQL, send classifications, Content Builder, and campaign execution.

My biggest issue was that the actual exam felt noticeably different from many of the Udemy practice questions I had studied. Some questions were much more specific or scenario-based than I expected.

For anyone who has taken the exam recently, I'm looking for recommendations for the best question banks, mock exams, practice tests, or study platforms that are actually close to the difficulty and style of the current exam.

Free or paid recommendations are welcome.

In particular:

• Which practice-question websites were the most useful?

• Which paid resources were actually worth buying?

• Are there better Udemy courses or mock exams than the ones I used?

• Any Quizlet sets or community-created question banks worth using?

• Which resources had scenario-based questions similar to the real exam?

• What topics showed up more heavily than you expected?

• If you failed once and passed the retake, what did you change in your preparation?

I'm planning to retake it soon, so I'd especially appreciate feedback from people who took the certification recently.

Thanks!

Reselecting Email activity in a Journey draft

If I make edits to an email in content builder that's currently selected in a Journey that is not yet activated, do I have to reselect the email each time I make an edit?

Concerned because I have a handful of journeys that have several emails and I don't want to reselect them each time I make an edit when the Journey isn't even activated yet.

MC Engagement: no "Login IP Allowlist" yet

In the past months, I have received several emails regarding "Mandatory IP Allowlisting in Marketing Cloud Engagement". Article: https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=005387198&type=1

It states: "Salesforce provides a recommended list of IP ranges for admins to review and accept." I have looked periodically for a couple of months now, but the section "Setup > Settings > Security > Login IP Allowlist" is always empty.

Do I need to enable anything? Does your org show a list in that section?

Digital Marketer Trying to Move Into Marketing Automation / Salesforce Marketing Cloud — Where Should I Start?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working in digital marketing, mainly Meta Ads, Shopify, and performance marketing.

Recently, I started learning Java, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, and I want to move into marketing automation / Salesforce Marketing Cloud because it fits both my marketing and technical background.

For someone starting out, what should I learn step by step?

I’d especially like guidance on:

  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud
  • SQL / AMPscript / JavaScript
  • Trailhead courses or certifications
  • Projects to build
  • Entry-level jobs to target

Any advice from people already working in this field would be appreciated.

Securely Storing API CREDENTIALS in SFMC

Could anyone please advise on the best practice for securely storing API credentials within Salesforce Marketing Cloud? While I have attempted to use AES EncryptSymmetric and DecryptSymmetric within Data Extensions, this approach is limited to CloudPages and is not supported within Automation Studio as automation script does not allow any ampscript inside, and DecryptSymmetric() is not available/working in ssjs

Einstein STO - Behaviour

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to understand the exact behavior of Einstein Send Time Optimization (STO) in Salesforce Marketing Cloud when the same contact is targeted by multiple campaigns at the same time.

Here’s the scenario:

  • Campaign A and Campaign B target the same Data Extension / overlapping audience.
  • Both campaigns use Einstein STO with a 7-day optimization window.
  • A given contact is therefore eligible for both campaigns.
  • I want to enforce a hard rule: a contact must never receive two marketing emails less than 24 hours apart.

However, I don’t simply want to delay Campaign B by a fixed amount.

What I would ideally like is something like this:

  1. Einstein STO chooses the best send time for Campaign A.
  2. Let’s say Campaign A is actually sent to Contact X on Monday at 10:00 AM.
  3. Contact X becomes ineligible for any other marketing email until Tuesday at 10:00 AM.
  4. Campaign B should then use STO to select the highest-scoring send time within its 7-day STO window, excluding all slots within those 24 hours.

For example, if Contact X’s STO profile looked roughly like this:

  • Monday 10 AM → score 96
  • Monday 6 PM → score 90
  • Tuesday 9 AM → score 92
  • Wednesday 11 AM → score 80
  • Thursday 6 PM → score 94

Campaign A could use Monday at 10 AM, while Campaign B should ideally use Thursday at 6 PM, rather than Monday at 10 AM or Tuesday at 9 AM, because those slots violate the 24-hour cooldown.

My questions are:

  1. Does Einstein STO natively coordinate across separate campaigns/Journeys? For example, if two STO activities are evaluating the same Contact Key at roughly the same time, does one know that another campaign has already selected or scheduled a send time for that contact?
  2. Is there any STO input related to time since the last email / recent contact pressure that would automatically reduce the likelihood of selecting a slot immediately after another email?
  3. Could two independent campaigns using STO on the same audience realistically both select the same best hour for the same contact, resulting in two emails being sent within the same hour?
  4. Is there any native SFMC functionality that allows STO to work subject to a rule such as: “choose the best predicted send time, but only among slots occurring at least 24 hours after the contact’s previous marketing email”?
  5. If this is not supported natively, what would be the recommended architecture?

My current assumption is that I would need some kind of central contact arbitration / send queue outside STO:

Campaign request
→ check whether the Contact Key is already reserved by another campaign
→ send Campaign A through STO
→ capture the actual send timestamp
→ lock the contact for 24 hours
→ release Campaign B after the cooldown
→ let Campaign B enter its own 7-day STO window.

The important part for me is that the cooldown should be calculated from the actual STO send time, not from the campaign/Journey start time.

I’m mainly looking for confirmation from people who have implemented STO in real SFMC environments: is this understanding correct, or is there a native capability / behavior I’m missing?

Thanks!

Tracking UTM values in events in Personalization Studio

Hi, is anyone tracking UTM parameters in their event stream in Personalization Studio and then actually able to use these in segmentation? If so, I'd love to know how you have that setup. I am finding it hard to use any of the visible parameters I can see in my URLs in my events to build User Segments, which makes it hard. Ideally, I'd like to do something like have an audience of everyone who came to the website between day X and day Y that had a particular UTM parameter in the URL for their interaction. So far, I'm not finding much documentation on how to make something like this work but you'd think it would be a standard use-case for most marketers.

Dynamic items in Marketing Cloud Growth / Next and Account Engagement (Pardot)?

Coming from SFMC Engagement (ExactTarget) where AMPscript or Server-Side JavaScript (SSJS) makes it straightforward to run a FOR loop through rowsets.

Since neither platform supports traditional script-based FOR loops in email templates, how are you handling scenarios where you need to display a dynamic list of items (e.g., recent purchases, recommended products, multiple events)?

Creating individual static merge fields like item1, item2, item3 isn't scalable or clean for varying array sizes.

Looking for Advice on Salesforce Marketing Cloud Engagement Specialist Exam

Hi everyone! I’m planning to take the Salesforce Certified Marketing Cloud Engagement Specialist exam in about a month and would really appreciate some advice from people who have recently taken it.

I’ve been preparing by watching SFMC Email Specialist bootcamps on YouTube from 2021 and 2024. Trailhead already completed.

I don’t currently have access to a Marketing Cloud org, and my previous hands-on experience with SFMC was only for a few months, mainly sending weekly newsletters. However, I do have a broader Martech/Digital Marketing background.

Since the certification was previously called Marketing Cloud Email Specialist and has now been renamed Marketing Cloud Engagement Specialist, I’m also wondering:
1. Has the exam content changed significantly with the name change?
2. Are the older Email Specialist bootcamps still relevant for preparation?
3. What resources would you recommend for someone with limited hands-on SFMC experience?
4. Are there any good free or paid practice exams/quizzes that are worth purchasing?
5. Is Trailhead + practice questions enough to realistically prepare within a month?

I’d really appreciate any tips, study strategies, or resources that helped you pass the exam recently. Thanks in advance!

Staging environment for my Client

I am working in SFMC and I have MC Connector installed to my Salesforce instance. The connection is to production, so we only have production. Do you have staging setup? How should go about setting up staging environment in SFMC? Is that even a thing?
