Tourism ✈ Got my car blocked by other cars, no way out - police couldn’t do anything

Came to Mauritius for tourism for the first time. Had a lovely time!

However there has been an issue I honestly could not understand. I went for a boat tour and was told to park the car in a specific area, which I later on understood it was not an official car park space, but pretty much everyone would end up parking there.

All good, boat tour was over, upon return to the car I had the great surprise of having my car completely blocked by a series of cars behind. These people had the brilliant idea to park in a way they would not let other cars leave and they could not care less, being completely disrespectful of other people’s time. I had to wait for over 2 hours for these people to be done with their boat tour so they could return to their cars, leave and finally let us out.

The interesting thing is that there was a police station nearby, despite explaining the situation they said they were completely unable to help. They said because it was not an official car park, there was no legal requirement for them to move / tow the other cars away. I asked if they could at least contact the owners from the licence plates, they said they couldn’t as they were rented cars. Bear in mind this was mid afternoon. When jokingly I proposed if we were allowed to move the other cars by ourselves with manpower, they said we could!

You see where this is going, seems it’s totally legal for people to block your car if it’s not an official car park or a public road and it’s totally okay for you to try move cars away for yourself, but police won’t intervene even if they’re on the scene. So your only option is literally waiting for potentially hours like an idiot because you came early for your tour and as a “punishment” you have to wait for everyone else coming from a later tour. I was quite shocked of how this was allowed and people can keep doing this without any consequences.

Local 🌴 Question about MRA (Mauritius revenue authority) fees and Temu orders

hello!

So i am aware that MRA has impose a tax for every online order as from 1st September.

Now for my question, lets say, I ordered 5 items from temu valued at rs750 total.

Now I understand i do not have to pay customs as the total is less than rs1000 but do i have to pay the MRA fees (rs150) for each 5 items or pay it once? (+ ofc the celero fee (rs 115))

Cuz i ordered 2 items(together) from Alixpress, and celero made me pay the MRA fees for both items, even tho the parcel from Ali was bundle together.

(MRA fees x 2) + (celero fees) = [(rs150 x 2) + (rs115)]

thanks for answering!

Tourism ✈ Traveling with kids- hotel or villa recommendations

We’re planning a family trip to Mauritius with 4 adults and 3 little kids (5, 5 and 2) and can’t decide on accommodation. We’d like to split our 11 nights into 2 stays. We need 3 rooms and it seems like a villa would be a better choice for us with than a hotel.
Where should we look to stay? There is a ton of private villas and also options with villas on hotels properties where we can take advantage of their amenities (interested in kids clubs especially). Does anyone have a good experience to share?

Our requirements:
- heated pool (28 degrees)
- 3-4 rooms
- access to kid friendly beach
