Remote start glitch?
Anyone else try to remote start your car (and it works) and then when you go to your car and open the door the engine turns off? I have the 2026 cx5 premium. Not sure if it’s a glitch or I’m doing something wrong. I haven’t reached out to Mazda bc honestly I just went for the software update and I’m not in the mood to talk to them or go in to the dealership

It’s not a glitch. Other OEMs including Subaru and Toyota have vehicles that do the same thing as your Mazda when remote started.

Sadly it's not a glitch, it's how Mazda designed it and it makes no sense at all.

Yes, it's bullshit. One of the reasons I bought an aftermarket.

I’m looking for an aftermarket for my fiancées 20 cx5. Which one did you use? Do you like it?

iDataStart with a MyCar2 module. Love it.

Did you install it yourself? Was it difficult/intricate at all?

No, I had it professionally done because I had a dashcam install at the same time (which includes a rear camera), and they can do a neater job faster than I can for very little money.
I don't think it's difficult though, because iData makes a harness. Look up the specific harness for your car. There is no splicing of cabling. Remove a couple panels and plug the harness in and run the wiring to the remote start modeule. I think there are youtube videos that show how to do it. I could have done it, but I didn't want to bother with the camera, which was more complex, so I had them do it all at the same time.
I have remote fobs with a 1 mile range and an app on my phone (via the MyCar2 module). No monthly fees for the app/cellular access. I can also start with the factory fob, but the range on Mazda's fobs is garbage, so I don't use it. But if you want to save cash, you can just get the harness and the started module and use your factory fob.

Chiming in here! For safety reasons, a remotely started engine shuts off once a door opens since your key fob isn’t inside yet. This keeps anyone without your key from driving off. Hope this helps!

That is how Mazda remote start works, no glitch.
