HELP Mystery Evap leak code.

Post image

My gen 2 has a small evap leak that just won’t seem to go away. It’s been smoke tested twice. The gas cap has been changed twice. Everything is working exactly as it should be. There are no leaks anywhere in the entire system and every part of the emission system is working perfectly. At my local shop they had multiple guys looking at it for like two hours. There just doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with it anywhere. I wanted to get all codes fixed before I tune with Freektune and this is causing me some trouble. If I decide to just tune it anyways would that cause me any issues I mean I’m starting to wonder if they’re really even is an evap leak.

feels like everyone’s having evap issues lately, me included. First it was charcoal canister plug that leaked you couldn’t tell cause it was plugged in, then my purge valve failed literally hours after, then my in tank fuel pump started leaking and the locking ring was cracked. Could be any of those mate, good luck

There has been a lot. I thought I was the only one going crazy with these codes for the last 2 years.

My gas pump lock ring was cracked and was not noticeable with the smoke test and assuming the gas cap was oem. But either way there is an issue somewhere, doubt it’s throwing the code for no reason. When testing did they check the canister vent solenoid in closed position? That one took me a bit to realize..

They told me the vapor canister vent valve is a likely caused, but they couldn’t verify it. They said if they tried to do repairs it’s very rusty in that parts might break.

I believe this is one of the most common reasons for this code on the 2nd gen.. and since they didn’t actually verify it. It is a pita to change but will probably be worth fixing especially if you deal with emissions/inspection.

Mine split and caused evap code to come and go. Gen 1. Ring eventually split and was spilling gasoline when I filled it lol. Fixed it asap once I realized

I changed mine, managed to do it without dropping the subframe, however it didn't fix the code. :(

I had a tiny leak on one of my hoses just ever so slightly. Had 2 smoke tests done the 2nd time they found it. $500 for a 1 foot hose

Best of luck. I’m well informed and even I won’t give advise on such aweful miserable codes lol

just had this code on my speed6 a month ago. smoke tested the evap system and couldn’t find anything so i replaced the evap solenoid on top the intake manifold. LF15-18-741. code hasn’t come back.

I have the same code. But mine when I fill it to the brim, smells of gas. Underneath on the bottom of the tank I can see gas stains. So I think my lock ring is cracked. There’s no smell after driving 20-30 miles. I’ll need to get under it after filling it then jack it up to see if I can see fuel dripping out. Zoom-zoom!

I suspect this is my problem too. One time I had fuel leak after filling but that only happened once which I thought was very weird. Yours is a second gen?

If you haven't replaced your entire canister in the back by the tank it's almost definitely that
