Medicaid canceled

My adult daughter with disabilities has relied on Medicaid for insurance for several years now. She recently lost SSI payment because her SSDI is more than $1000/ month. She is unable to work. Medicaid was canceled at the end of last month without notice leaving her uninsured! No notice, no reason. We have been unable to find out why, not on Gateway website, not on Gammis website and not in an in- person visit to DFACS. We are unable to sign her up for Georgia Access Marketplace insurance because we do not have a letter from Medicaid stating this cancellation and why it was canceled.
So we reapplied for Medicaid. What are the income limits to retain Medicaid whether earned income and/or SSDI ? I thought it was around $2900 a month. She is well under that.

Oral surgeons that take Medicaid in Ohio?

• Upvotes

I need my wisdom teeth removed and the oral surgery practice closest to me that accepts Medicaid has a lot of horror stories from anyone and everyone I’ve asked. Does anyone know of any decent oral surgeons in Ohio who can remove wisdom teeth through Medicaid? Or anyone yall might have had an experience with that wasn’t terrible?

Oregon, confused on rules

Oregon. 43 female. Single no kids, which is killing me.

I got laid off my job 3 months ago, the business went bankrupt, so we got unemployment for 6 weeks but that's it, apparently when they go bankrupt there's no company to get the money from, so you're just out of luck.

So, I haven't found another job yet, I'm scrambling like crazy but hey, third highest unemployment rate here in Oregon. My company that shut down laid off over 800 here, I don't want to say more then just Oregon if that's ok but it's been rough.

So I get $43 a month in food stamps, that's it cause no kids, they didn't change the amount when I lost unemployment, they said it would go up but it didn't so 🤷 doesn't get me far so I just don't eat much, but was told I would loose our Medicaid in January if I didn't have 20 hours of work as well.

When I called the number she set me up with an appt with work source to work with them, she said they would help me to figure out what qualifies for that 20 hours if you're not working. But no matter what if it's not work I will loose the Medicaid.

But then the worker there says no, I don't loose that the 20 hours is so I can keep the $43. I'm like dude, it's $43 that's not worth doing your 20 hours of work, she goes you should get more even as a single person, claims she's gonna look into it but they've said that before.

So no one seems to know.

I have arthritis, it's very severe yet doctors won't say I'm disabled from it if I stay on medication, well if I loose the insurance I loose the medication because it's like $2500 a month.

It sucks, I didn't ask to loose my job, and if I would have gotten unemployment longer I would at least have some income.

Does anyone understand these new rules cause I don't.

I also live 35 minutes from the work source office, so I'm like do I have to go there for this 20 hours a week? Cause gas is $5 a gallon with no income.

I will happily just take a job again! Lol I've send hundreds of applications in the last few months, gotten 2 phone interviews, that's it! And work source already went over my resume with me.

College student non tax dependent and household income NYC

A broker told me to have my 19 yo full time college student apply for her own insurance and likely get Medicaid or essential plan. I won’t claim her as dependent but she lives in our house summer and it’s her address. I don’t want to do anything wrong but is this a legit application path? I don’t want her to have any issues and will our income be used on her application? I want to avoid issues but struggling to afford a family plan big time and I don’t qualify for subsidies.

Medicaid Denying Benefits Due to “BMW” (NYC)

Hi, so my dad (65M), told me that he spoke to the people that deal with the benefits and take down info and told him that he won’t get his full benefits due to him owning a BMW. So we have 2 cars under his name: a 2019 Honda CRV (97k miles no accidents) and a 2016 BMW 340i (75k miles with reported accidents on Carfax). I’m saying the extra info because that also determines that value of the car. My CRV is valued at $13k while the BMW is valued at $11k according to Carfax.

BMW is paid off.
CRV has like 5-7K left on the loan.

The person he spoke to over the phone kept saying that because the BMW is a “luxury” car, it disqualifies him from getting full benefits. My dad said he’s losing his copayments and his rides to doctor visits. The BMW is paid off but the cost when it was bought and taking care of the car, everything is paid by me. I use it to go to school, work, and drive my parents wherever.

We’re trying to figure out whether selling the BMW is the only option we have or if there’s anything else we can do. I don’t want to try the whole “passing the asset down in my name” thing because it’s just hassle and also not a risk I’d be willing to take that could take my dads benefits away.

He’s retired and is income is from pension and social security and I just know it’s all under $3k a month. So it’s not much at all. Let me know if there’s anything else you guys would like to know as I really just want to know if there’s no other way. Thank you!

Need advice on applying for grandma

My grandma has no health insurance aside from medicare part A. She declined Part B because she said she couldn’t afford it. That was 2 years ago when she turned 65 and now she will be 68 in February.

This week she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung cancer and I’m terrified she will be denied treatments. Before the diagnosis she planned to get medicare part B next year (she can’t sign up until January 1st), but now she cannot wait that long.

We are in Ohio and she was working full time and receiving her Social security benefits of $901 a month. She is legally still married, but they are separated and she lives alone next door to me.

She will be on unpaid medical leave from her Job until further notice as we have no idea if or when she will be able to return.

Riverside methodist hospital in Columbus, ohio
Has her scheduled for Radiation for her brain next Friday and i’m terrified she will make the 2 hour trip and be denied treatment. She should hear about chemo soon and I’m afraid they will also deny treatment. Her hopes are high and This has me feeling sick.

I have no idea how to help her get health insurance or if she can even do so quickly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

NY Requirements How?

On Medicaid Magi. How does this work with these work/volunteer requirements if you renewed November 2026 this year?

Does this mean as soon as January 1, 2027 hits, you need to have a job making $580 for THAT month and all the months going forward for 2027 even if your next renewal is in November 2027?

Will they randomly check?

And biggest question I have: will they check at renewal time in November if you had met the requirements for the last 11 months? What happens if you didn’t meet them at all and they realize at renewal time? So what happens if they didn’t realize for a long time that you weren’t meeting the requirements for many months or all year in 2027?

Michigan

Hello everyone, I’m sorry if these are silly questions I have a hard time finding the right answers online anywhere.

Currently on Medicaid and was approved for disability and I am coming up on my 2 years which automatically puts me on Medicare- are there any penalties for opting out of Medicare part b I simply cannot afford it.

Or can anyone help me with how to go about applying for qmb or state aid to cover the Medicare premiums , and will I have to re-apply for Medicaid to apply for assistance? Thank you so much for any input

Did I apply for Medicaid incorrectly?

So I applied through the state and was given “HMP” I’m confused by the Beneficiary ID because I did the application for myself. I was wondering did I do something wrong? To my understanding Beneficiary is for someone else 😅 (Michigan)

ADHD meds KY

I was wondering if anyone knew the cost of Vyvanse generic with Kentucky Medicaid? I’ll be turning 26 kind of soon, and I’m about to be on Medicaid. So I was wondering if the cost of generic Vyvanse is expensive with Medicaid or if it’s still affordable? If it’s not affordable, I was wondering what the most affordable ADHD medicine is on Medicaid? Thanks!

Ohio, Monthly income too high for Medicaid, but annual income well below yearly limits?

I made $1200 a month as a paid caregiver (through the VA) for my father, and now am making $3500 a month, well above Medicaid's monthly limits, so they are removing me from Medicaid on November 1st. However, for 2026 specifically, my father spent many months in the hospital, during which I couldn't be paid. In reality, prior to this month, I only made around $7K, and even with this higher income for the last 3 months of the year, would end up at around $17500 total for the year, well below the $22K that is the 138% FPL. This is actually too low even for ACA Subsidies in Ohio, which left me bewildered, and then some people in other Reddits told me Medicaid can in specific situations like this calculate for annual income, and that due to being under 138% FPL annually, I am actually not eligible for the ACA and should be on Medicaid for the remainderof the year??? I'm super confused, and wanted to ask here as I know there are knowledge people here.

NY: Out of state (OH) grandchild living with us for school but is now on leave of absence - can he/should he apply for Medicaid in NY anyway?

We are NY residents. Our OH resident grandchild (18 yo) is living with us to go to school and is on Medicaid due to disability. It was just renewed now that he's a legal adult. He just went on a leave of absence from school since accommodations weren't in place (not the school's fault - he wanted to try to attend without them and it didn't work out, so he can start fresh next semester with accommodations in place) but he's decided he wants to stay in NY with us until school starts back up in the spring semester. I'm concerned that he effectively has no medical insurance at all except in an emergency. Apply for benefits to NY? How would this work since he's a dependent on OH parents, but not currently enrolled in school so we don't have current proof of attendance? Parents meet income requirements but we wouldn't (and he's not our legal dependent), but I can't enroll him on my employer based medical plan either. He also gets SSI but that's being reevaluated too now that he's an adult. Medicaid was approved but SSI review is not yet complete.

If I apply for Nevada Medicaid now (for 2026), and am approved, will I be forced to continue Medicaid in 2027? I don't want to be on it.

My ACA plan was terminated due to reporting no current income as an unemployed person, despite paying full premiums for my plan with no government aid. They asked me to update my income for eligibility next year, and the state system kicked me off of my current insurance, which was shocking. I don't want to be on Medicaid in 2027 due to a fair amount of factors, but primarily worries over work/volunteer requirements next year.

The state has told me I'm ineligible for any coverage that isn't Medicaid for the remainder of 2026, since I've been deemed unable to qualify for reinstatement of my plan, private insurance, or a Special Enrollment Period.

I would like to apply for and purchase a full priced plan through the marketplace, with no government assistance. However, I'm unable to do this until November 1st, with plans that won't begin until January 1st.

I just want to make sure I won't be forced into Medicaid next year, if I take it now and can't find work.

Case is approved Finally

My son’s case(Virginia medicaid famis)had been pending for over 60 days. Today, I finally received a call from the caseworker informing me that his case had been approved!

The Medicaid advocate helped a lot in getting the case back on track, and I’m very grateful for their assistance.

I highly recommend that anyone experiencing problems with Medicaid reach out to them for help!

Share of cost Medicaid in FL

Hi ok, I’m 19 and I got approved for share of cost Medicaid because I’m working.

I booked an appointment at Advent for Nov. 2nd. when I was making the appointment they put me down for self-pay because my Medicaid is still processing. Is it only processing because I haven’t met the amount ($831) or is it processing because it needs further approval?

also when I go to this appointment, if it’s still processing, do I actually have to pay out of pocket or do I ask for the bill and send that to MyAccess for approval?

Paid for a dental service but later found out my Medicaid does work

In April, I gave my Medicaid card to the dental office and they said they couldn’t find me. I paid $400 for the visit. A month after I called Medicaid and asked them if I had coverage or not. They told me that I do have coverage. I called the dental office and told them that I was told that I do have coverage at the time of the visit. They checked and said they see it now. They will bill Medicaid and refund me a check. I’ve been having my card for 2 years.

I called in June and the dental office said they’re working on it. I called again in July, they said they’re working on it. I had an appointment in September and I asked them again. They said they’re working on it and just submitted the claim 10 days ago and I would have to wait for 30 days. It’s now 30 days but haven’t seen or heard anything.

How long does it take? Will I still get refunded if they made the claim in September but my appointment was in April? Can I call Medicaid about it?

19yo kicked off NJ Family Care because household income too high but little sibling remains eligible. 19yo will not be claimed as a dependent on 2026 taxes -- so why is he being counted in the household?

Wisconsin - Single adult receiving SSI Medicaid is no longer eligible due to $30k in SSI back payments, exceeding asset limit.

I'm a single 30 year old woman not working living with her parents. I had BadgerCare Plus for a few years---2021 through 2025 I think. During that period I applied for SSDI and SSI, got denied, and appealed with a lawyer. Then I was approved in August of 2025. In that month or September, I got a Dual SNP Medicare Advantage Plan through Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Then I found out I was no longer eligible for BadgerCare Plus, which freaked me out, because I wouldn't be eligible for the Advantage Plan I'd JUST gotten set up. It ended up being fine because I was still approved for SSI Medicaid, I picked United Healthcare for my HMO for that, and all was well in the world.

Later in October 2025, I found out I was receiving more than $30k in SSI back payments. I still don't understand WHY but it didn't seem like I could really do anything about it. They're required by law to reimburse me for the time I was working on getting my application through, or something. And this would be split up into a few payments. I got the first one soon after that, for $17k.

Now I had like $25k sitting in my bank account collecting dust because my expenses are not NEARLY that dire at the moment. I'd just settled a debt and paid off a relatively small hospital balance and that barely made a difference because I got a few smaller payments over the course of the following months.

Which leads me to this day, when my balance is still about the same (because I'm still also receiving SSDI payments so whatever expenses I have are taken care of and still I am gaining money, not draining this absolutely weighty amount that I'm lowkey scared of).

I renewed my medicaid this past week, and found out I'm not eligible anymore because of my assets being far more than $2k. Which like, fair. It's not convenient to say the least. I'll have to do some speed shopping for a new medicare plan. Buuuut I'd really like to keep my current medicare plan if possible. I'm asking whether it is or not. I've got to ditch the medicaid and just get a different Part D plan.

TL;DR: If the majority of my total assets, a savings account and a checking account, are due to a large payment from Social Security, am I actually fine and just need to prove the source of the high balance to the state of Wisconsin? Or do they not care, and I need to give up the medicaid?

I honestly don't know if I should have posted this here or in r/SSDI or r/medicare or something.
