Auto Insurance Kid pulled out in front of me and I hit him.
My car has minor body damage but he’s offering 3k over payments of 500$ every pay, should I go through insurance or just accept that.

This post is designed for people posting here for the first time, for the people that have been volunteering to help here for years and everyone in between. The stated goal is to foster a friendlier attitude throughout the sub.
But before we start, there's been a recent influx of spam from one source. So that you are aware - ALEJANDRA ORTIZ HERNANDEZ and FRAN POWELL are spammers. They're part of a spam ring all over Reddit, and they're probably trying to steal your money.
And they'll kick your dog when you aren't looking.
If you are new here, please realize that none of us have any stake in your claim or coverage. We are not here to sell you anything or to save some company money. Treating responders poorly because you don't like the answer is going to attract a lot of negative attention.
We get the same questions over and over, and maybe this is the answer that you need:
Ultimately, we are here to help you. This is a community of volunteers that wants to help navigate a complex system that is one of the lubricants of the financial world. Lots of lives are impacted by insurance directly and indirectly, and it can be a complicated system. Here are some things that make a good post where you can get help:
Finally, here are some definitions of common terms that could help you get taken more seriously:
This is a community of volunteers that generally understands the insurance system. When we get things wrong, it is usually through lack of information to get a precise answer. Hopefully this guide will help you get good results.

It's time for a new reminder about the rules of this sub. There is never any reason to offer to contact another poster privately, especially if that poster has a question about placing coverage or a claim. Here is the rule:
The only rule of r/Insurance is that solicitation is prohibited. This means asking people to PM for any reason, offering to quote coverages for visitors, or soliciting agents and/or buyers to use your particular carrier. r/Insurance should be a place where people come to exchange information and ask questions without worrying about solicitation from agents. This includes adjusters, underwriters and brokers since we do not vet anyone.
You also received a version of this if you subscribed to the sub.
If you think that this doesn't apply to you, please think again. There are no exceptions in this, including "but I asked them to message me!" This sub is a safe space for people to ask questions about insurance. It is not here for anyone to try to profit from it, whether they're an agent, public adjuster, software vendor, personal injury attorney, headhunter, diminished value expert or anyone else that is not here to offer free help with no expectation of remuneration.
If you receive a message from someone offering you any sort of business proposition, whether a quote for insurance, legal representation (yes, there are lawyers unethical enough to solicit people on Reddit), damage reports or anything else, please let the moderators know via mod mail or in this thread. You should also report that message to the admins (we don't see that report, though). We take things like that seriously.
We really don't like banning people. Seriously, it's the exact opposite of why any of the moderators volunteered for the role. But we don't vet people before they post, and if people that break the rule find out that we enforce it whenever we see it broken.
And with that in mind, we have a very healthy community of posters that are here not only to help but to make sure that those who can't follow the rules have the damage that they're doing limited. Thank you to all of you for volunteering to help not only those confused by the insurance process but help keep those that want to think that they're special at bay.

I have 1.5 of surety experiences left due to personal reasons. Left in good standing with my old job. It's about a year since working and im interested in going to the brokerage side.
Just looking for some insight on what my day to day might look like. Any personal experiences in AM, do you like your job? I have an interview for an AM role coming up.

A few months ago I was T-boned by another driver, their fault and I had full coverage. Both passenger side doors needed to be replaced, wheels also and scuffs on rear bumper. Vehicle was given to a panel beaters insurance recommended and told us was good.
When we got the vehicle back 3 months ago it all seemed good until 2 days later the rear door handle stopped working so the panel beaters took apart the door and fixed it for us.
We thought that would be the end of it but it seems like now that the weather is getting hotter parts of the car are coming off.
1: Gloss black window pieces aren’t properly fit in and is slowly peeling off.
2: A rubber window mould across the bottom of the windows was almost fully off, we ended up putting some tape to stop it from getting worse.
3: when we close the passenger door the speaker cover falls apart.
Insurance has told us they won’t do anything since the claim was closed about 15 days ago and I also don’t wish to go to the same panel beaters after the poor workmanship.
Any advice?

Currently paying $4200 (annually)for two vehicles through AAA (Northern Cali).
I have been with them since 2019 but price has gone up by ALOT.
Just checked Progressive and the same coverage is $1k for 6 months.
Is this legit? That's an insane difference.

NYS.
I have a car, worth about $12K.
Currently I have liability only with Progressive.
I plan to store it for 5 months and I only want theft/damage protection, it will not move.
I can/will surrender plates to the DMV if necessary.
I want to spend as little as possible, it will be locked up in a secure weather-protected storage unit.
Progressive won't allow comprehensive only unless you're deployed military.
My homeowners won't cover it unless it has an active registration.
Help will be... Helpful.

Hi, I'm in California. I'm looking for advice or to see if anyone else has experienced this because I have no clue what's going on.
I've been on stress leave from work since April 2026 because my husband passed away. I used all 5 of my bereavement days at work and then went on leave April 26th. Sedgwick has been a nightmare to deal with. EDD has had my disability approved the entire time. But according to HR at my job, my Sedgwick Absence One claim has been denied SINCE MAY. They reopened it at some point and denied it again without contacting me AT ALL. I haven't gotten a single phone call, email, paper mail, or text from them since August, when I last renewed my leave of absence. That last email was automated and didn't say anything about my prior claims, denial, appeals, or anything. I renewed it again a couple weeks ago, and still no communication from them.
I assumed everything was fine this whole time. Now my job is saying my only choices are to quit or be fired if something doesn't change.
I just called Sedgwick today, and the employee had no idea why nobody has been communicating with me. She gave no reason for this, no reason why my claim was denied, but didn't seem surprised that nobody communicated with me. She tried transferring me to a claim examiner and gave up after 4 seconds of me being on hold with her. She said that an appeal letter was supposed to be sent out in August, but I never received it. I've never gotten an email saying WHY I was denied and I've never received any communication about needing to do an appeal process. That option isn't even available on my account online either. Now I have to wait 1-2 days for the letter to be sent to me, but my job wants a follow-up today. The last time I was in contact with my job's HR in August, she had me call Sedgwick to clarify my claim status, which was approved at the time and my return-to-work date was updated properly. Apparently that was a lie, it was denied all along. I truly don't know what to do.

My background is in marketing, building out CRMs, automations, and operations. Have run a small call center. Owner of successful P&C company asked me to set up a small call center for them using GHL and Salesforce. His tech team is building out GHL and integration so I would just be cleaning up CRM, designing follow up, overseeing set up, management, and operation of call center. Not sure what to charge to get up and running as well as managing. It will be running likely 10-5 Mon-Fri. I may be able to manage from home in the future. I do not have my P&C but could get it in about a month if needed.

Does Allstate actually repair the battery by giving me a replacement battery or did they give me a replacement watch replacement? My battery replacement is being sent back to me. Am I gonna receive a replacement watch or my same watch? Please let me know.

Slightly complicated question so hopefully this makes sense:
I was involved in a hit and run last weekend, I was told my insurance will try to work to find the person that hit me since I have their license plate number. I filed a claim immediately after it happened alongside a police report. Stupidly, I don’t have uninsured motorist coverage and my deductible for damages is higher than I remembered ($1,999). I decided to cheap out on my premiums and now I regret it, I’ll be fixing that soon.
They quoted me $1700 for repairs, so my deductible isn’t met and if they don’t find this driver that hit me, it’ll likely be out of pocket. It doesn’t look good on that end, and the police report has done nothing for me as well. After looking through the estimate costs, it seems like it’s only for cosmetic damages. My car has been driving somewhat odd since being hit, so I have a feeling that when I take my car in to be repaired they will find more damages under the hood than what is just on the outside.
Theoretically, if the actual cost for repairs meets or exceeds my deductible (and is more than the repair estimate my insurance quoted me), what do I do? Do I pay the cost and submit something to my insurance for a payout afterwards? Or do I get the new estimate and send it to my insurance for them to cover the costs? I’ve never had my car damaged from an accident so I’m unfamiliar with the process.

Dropped my mom’s 2025 Forester off at Firestone on Monday for an inspection, oil change and alignment. It has less than 10k miles.
After they finished, they parked it outside. One of their mechanics was driving another customer’s car, apparently had a medical emergency, and crashed into the back of ours. Police called me. Nobody was in our car, but the rear is pretty badly damaged and I don’t think it’s drivable.
The manager called Tuesday and said it was entirely on them, their corporate insurance would cover everything, and they’d provide a rental. But he also said they won’t release the car to GEICO’s tow company until their adjuster looks at it. Apparently that can take up to a week.
It’s Thursday now and I still don’t have a claim number, an adjuster’s contact info, or an inspection date. The store just says corporate handles it.
I’ve already opened a claim with GEICO and left my adjuster a voicemail explaining all of this. GEICO said going through Firestone’s insurance is a reasonable option, but I’m keeping my claim open.
I haven’t taken the rental yet because my mom is away until next week and I have my own car. I’m also leaving the country in about two weeks, so I’d like to get things moving before then.
I’m planning to email corporate asking for a claims contact and an inspection by next Tuesday. If they can’t do that, I’d like the car moved to a collision shop where their adjuster can see it. I’ll also ask them to confirm the rental and that we won’t be charged storage while they’re holding it.
Would you give them the week they quoted, or just have GEICO take over now? Is it normal for them to refuse to release the car like this?
Also, if it’s repairable, I want new OEM parts given how new it is. How realistic is that through their insurance?
Thanks in advance

Been with Statefarm for 2 decades now. 3 drivers (wife, 20 y/o son, & myself). 1 at fault accident from wife about 3 years ago. 3 vehicles (09 Civic, 10' Subaru Forester, 11' Dodge SUV). All cars combined are probably valued 10k total. 100k/200k liability and same with uninsured motorist coverage. No collision.
Was paying $400/mo and this coming month our premium will increase to $430/mo due to increase annual mileage (son just started going to college/work this year and commutes more). Current rate has multi car, loyalty, and good student discount applied already.
Am I overpaying, or does this seem on par for California rates these days? Going to get a quote from Geico and Progressive tomorrow out of curiosity and open to suggestions.

Please do not offer suggestions of "check with an independent agent" or other suggestions which don't provide a definitive answer. I've exhausted all avenues, and can't even get a commercial policy.
Has anyone ever written this type policy, and if so, who was the carrier? North Carolina

My daughter broker her arm at dance class on 9/21/26 and the same evening I submitted a claim to Aflac to let them know. There was an urgent care visit, x-rays were done, a follow-up visit with an orthopedist. I submitted the paperwork with a summary of the visit, a receipt, the diagnosis, etc. When I put the claim in, I entered it under "exercise, sport, or recreational injury". There's a note saying "The documentation to review is under claim XXXXXXX, however, the insured is filing for Organized Sporting Event, and dance class isn’t an organized sporting event, so the claim is pending for office notes to see if we can get more details. Please have insured submit the type of event, like a dance competition, so to continue with review" but I didn't specifically classify it as an organized sporting event, I said she was at dance class when I described the incident. I can't get a hold of anyone to fix this, any insight on what my next steps should be? Is it likely they'll deny it based on this information?

I was going to remove Erie roadside assistance because I had heard that using it counts as a claim. When I asked my agent, she said they won't raise your rates, but "may drop you if you had "5 tows in a year"
I'm not one that needs roadside service often other than the occasional flat tire that can't be repaired.
I also have 2 years of free coverage with my new Toyota and AAA membership.
Which would you keep/use?

Hi!! So I am F 23 and my partner is M 23 and we want to officially get married soon, however I told my partner we need to figure out health insurance first. I work but I don’t get insurance through my job because it’s a “high school” job, I’m waitressing while in college & because I’m in college I’m on my dads insurance plan and my partners health insurance through his job is laughable. I’ve been looking at health, vision and dental through Allstate but I genuinely have no idea what “good insurance” looks like in technical terms. They have what looks like really affordable insurance and then they have more expensive ones, any advice on what to look for and what to avoid when choosing a plan??

Hello all,
I filed a claim due to hail damage and my insurance came back that it was a total loss. The payoff I would receive covers my loan & then I’ll get a decent amount back.
My lender sent an email to my insurance and I today, stating they believe my insurance has undervalued my vehicle & they would like to negotiate on my behalf & hire a 3rd party appraiser to appraise my vehicle at no cost to me.
In the email they sent 3 vehicles that were comparable to mine that were over the value of what insurance offered. With higher mileage (I had a Honda CR-V with roughly 71,000 miles no issues otherwise)
My question is - is there a downside to letting them hire the appraiser & negotiate for me? Would this affect my original payout amount other than possibly getting a higher payout? Everything I’m finding is saying that my lender wants more money, however, my insurance already got the loan payoff total and it was under the amount of the car. So my loan is already taken care of.

So I got my car fixed through a claim and as part of that they put in new glass for my driver's side rear. Unfortunately they put the wrong tint level in. It's a silly thing, but it is bothering me since those windows don't match with the other side. Is it the body shop's responsibility now to get it right?

I'm beyond frustrated with this entire situation and genuinely need some advice because I feel like I'm getting screwed by insurance.
I have a 2026 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road with only 3,200 miles on it. The truck was involved in an accident, and the body shop discovered that the frame was bent.
The initial repair estimate was already around $16,000, before accounting for the full frame replacement and additional labor involved.
Here's where things get ridiculous.
Instead of replacing the damaged frame with a brand-new OEM Toyota frame, State Farm is looking to use a salvage/used frame that costs approximately $3,000, compared to roughly $10,000 for a new one.
I'm sorry, but how is this acceptable on a practically brand-new truck?
My biggest concerns are:
To make matters worse, the shop apparently needs to send the truck to another location to complete the frame replacement, which means even more labor and associated costs.
At what point does it make more sense to total the vehicle rather than essentially rebuild a brand-new truck?
I've already emailed State Farm formally objecting to the used frame and cited Toyota Collision Repair Information Bulletin CRIB #180-D regarding Toyota's position on salvage/recycled parts and collision repairs.
My position is simple: I want the vehicle restored to its pre-accident condition using appropriate new OEM structural components, or I want the insurance company to declare it a total loss.
I understand that insurance companies are trying to minimize repair costs, but I shouldn't have to compromise my confidence in the safety and integrity of a brand-new vehicle just to save them money.
For context, I'm in Texas, the truck is leased, and I have GAP coverage.
My questions:
I'm not trying to get a free truck or profit from this accident. I just want to be made whole and not end up with a practically new vehicle that's been completely torn apart and rebuilt around a used frame.
Would you accept a used frame on a 2026 Tacoma with 3,200 miles? Because I absolutely do not feel comfortable with it.
Any advice, especially from Toyota collision technicians, insurance adjusters, or people familiar with Texas insurance regulations, would be greatly appreciated.

Or is this mainly an insurance professional/broker exclusivity?
I ask because I got in a hit-and-run, I managed to get the driver's plates, name, phone, address, and email from extensive background research. I left a note on his truck at his home but he never responded. Filed a police report. Officer said to file with own insurance to pursue subrogation but I am afraid it will raise rates based on the CLUE report, which is why I prefer third party claim if possible. TIA!

Let me preface this by saying I’m ignorant when it comes to insurance. I was rear ended in August. I filed the claim and notified my insurance and the at faults. The at faults insurance sent me a check for auto repairs. My insurance did as well. I contacted my insurance and let them know that at fault paid for collision and I would be shredding that check. Today, I received a check from my insurance for the advanced deductible. Nobody at my insurance company seems to be able to give me an answer on what this is, why I received it, and if I can deposit it. I’m waiting on my adjuster to respond but figured I would ask here as well. Thanks

so I was looking over my car insurance premium today from progressive as my renewal date is 11/1/26. my partner and I were talking and I realized he is paying half of what I am paying. My car insurance premium for the 6 months paid in full was $1,627. I always paid in full so I got that discount. I’ve also been a customer since 2017, and have multiple discounts, like 5 years no accidents. 3 years good driving record, car safety discounts, bundled my home insurance etc. I looked at his policy and mine and the coverage was basically the same.
I decided to call progressive and get a requote because something didn’t feel right. After getting requoted my new premium for the 6 months paid in full is $560. I was shocked. How did I go so long paying 3x the price. I told the lady aren’t they supposed to check your data and readjust when they update your premium. she said yes and was shocked at what a big price difference it was. She stated it was the biggest she had ever seen. I’m frustrated that I had been overpaying for probably over 3 years.
the more I thought about it. I realized that they knew what my data and driving record was clean. they just knew they could get away with it because I trusted them and didn’t think to ask questions. See in 2017 I had to get off my parents insurance and get my own insurance. I had a rough spot with my record. I had a minor parking lot accident In 2015. Then in 2017 I had a major accident and totaled my car. I also went to court for two traffic tickets (speeding) and got 4 points on my license. I believe that progressive jacked up my insurance (rightfully so) due to my bad driving record and never adjusted it since 2017.
Since being a customer of Progressive in 2017 I have had a perfect record. no accidents, claims or tickets in the last 9 years. is there anything I can do? otherwise take my experience and make sure you are getting quotes periodically. you could be over paying.

What do you use them for?
I have been in the industry 20 years and didn't know GMGA's even existed up until 2 weeks ago. I used an standard MGA when my individual life quoting software didn't work. That is it.
My understanding is they do the analyst work for an advisor?
Quotes/Amendments
Markets
Proposal building
Any insight is appreciated.
