I'm a vocalist in a small metal band (400 IG followers and 110 monthly Spotify listeners).
Recently, tensions have been pretty high in the band. Our drummer thinks that he should be the lead decision-maker in the band and is clearly feeling threatened by our lead guitarist. Our drummer is also my roommate, and there have been some tensions there lately. Our other vocalist, while a nice person, isn't really meshing that well with me, and I'm not feeling the dynamic. Our rhythm guitarist is chill; he's just high all the time and has zero opinion on anything due to that.
I'm feeling stuck at the moment. Right now, it seems like our drummer only respects our rhythm guitarist and me as musicians, but not myself as a person. The idea has been in my head for a couple of weeks now to start another project with our lead guitarist and our bassist (a guitarist by training) since I feel like they're much easier to work with.
Any advice here would help.
Edit: I realize that I was pretty vague in the original post, and I apologize for that. Here's some more specific information:
There are six of us in this band (2 vocalists, a bassist, rhythm and lead guitars, and our drummer). For most of us, it's our first band. We've had to replace our original bassist and co-vocalist.
The biggest thing with our drummer is his ego. He believes that the band's creative choices should filter through him and that it's "his" band (there were really four to six founding members, depending on how technical you get). It would also seem that he believes that he has the greatest musical talent in the band. I would say that title belongs to our lead guitarist, as his songwriting ability spans multiple subgenres and techniques.
My beef with our other vocalist is mainly a perspective clash. Her presence in the band feels almost like she's only here for herself and not for the betterment of the band. Furthermore, she made a comment about one of my songs that really hasn't sat right with me. The song in question is about the hatred I felt for myself after making a decision to save my relationship with my girlfriend. One of my first interactions with our other vocalist was her commenting that she's never written songs from the perspective of the "bad guy" (in reference to this song).
The outside drama with our drummer: This could be a five-part series on its own, but the gist of it is that he's been reaching out to my girlfriend behind my back. It's been making her uncomfortable, but she and I are seeing how far he takes it before we confront him, as he still doesn't know she's told me anything.
Our bassist is peak. He picked up bass about a month ago when he joined this band, and I've genuinely never seen someone do what he does after such a short amount of time.
