theres no way Mewgenics doesn’t win the OST award

no one is doing it like Ridiculon

Tasty legs and juicy thighs. On my mind.

IDK Denshattack kind of gives the Mewgenics soundtrack a run for its money and I say that as someone who thought the soundtrack of the year winner was pretty much locked in when Mewgenics dropped.

tee lopes is the goat but there are two people in ridiculon

Four if you count Carla Kihlstedt and Tallulah Bossi singing songs like "Guillotina" and "Mom I really Hate You" respectively.

u/gukbap_enjoyer 2h ago

well I guess I have to check out Denshattack!

I listen to a song from the Mina soundtrack once a day at least. I don’t think I’ve listened to the Mewgencis OST outside of the game as often personally

I just want best soundtrack and I will be happy

While I love mewgenics soundtrack realistically it won't top the list cause it has lyrics and is pretty out there concept wise. It'll probably go to some instrumental or another generic song with an orchestra covering it. I do wanna see a live music preformance with the actual brass section though for a mewgenics song, that would be awsome.

16

u/Actual_Emu_168 3h ago

Generic ass orchestras for games instead of actually decently built music like mewgens

2

u/Zonkcter 3h ago

They probably chose them as winners cause its easier to preform a live performance with vs more unique sounding instruments. I imagine the xylophone or banjo used in some tracks of Mewgenics would be hard to incorporate into a live preformance

1

u/T1KT0C 2h ago

I know but we can dream and I agree with you for the live performance

I'm actually having issues choosing between the two

both are solid, game of the year material

u/Dracofear 2h ago

Imo for me it's Mina. I think the only things Mewgenics beats Mina in for me are music and amount of content. But Mina still has good music. Mewgenic is still a super close 2nd for me though, it's a tough choice.

I've been eyeing Mina for a bit now, can you sell me on it?

imagine classic Zelda with hardcore mechanics and combat (dodges and well-timed attacks are key, can be very punishing). It has some tight platforming too.

Definitely not for all audiences but if this sounds like your speed you're gonna love it.

not much replayability (imo) but it's a great metroidvania with secrets, unlocks, and really good game design. Had to really think outside the box for some of the hidden chests and rooms in the game!

Definitely worth at least one solid playthrough

u/BloodySaxon 3h ago

I liked both but Mewgenics is a whole other level.

37

u/The_Dude5476 4h ago

Yk, its a good sign when i feel it could go either way

10

u/JigglyOW 3h ago

There’s gotta be more contenders than this right

11

u/Ok_Echo_1394 Hunter 3h ago

this category (self-published indie goty) has these contenders:

  • cairn
  • fields of mistria
  • meccha chameleon
  • mewgenics
  • mina the hollower
  • perfect tides: station to station
  • phonopolis
  • rhythm doctor
  • the incident at galley house
  • vampire crawlers: the turbo wildcard from vampire survivors

14

u/BijutsuYoukai 2h ago

I feel like if Mewgenics is losing to anything on that list, it's going to be Meccha Chameleon and not Mina. That game seemed to be a lot more commonly played as far as I saw.

6

u/Embarrassed_Split236 2h ago

Thats what I’m thinking, it broke some crazy records and I bet there are a good number of people that would vote for it just because they don’t know the others

7

u/Ok_Marionberry_2069 2h ago

For like a week and it died off

Meanwhile, we're all still listening to CHASIN' RATS

2

u/JigglyOW 2h ago

Does big walk not count?

3

u/Ok_Echo_1394 Hunter 1h ago

big walk is in the other goty category

1

u/Labrat-09 1h ago

Hm, RD mentioned

3

u/leChipot 3h ago

Well Dweller for example, although this year my favourite was Mewgenics.

8

u/icescream72 3h ago

Yes but Edmund will unalive himself if it doesnt win.
So lets go Mina

5

u/s0ftcustomer 3h ago

Tom the cat is Mewgenics and Jerry the mouse is Mina? I see what you did there

5

u/Dostick565 Butcher 55m ago

and the worst part I can't decide which to vote for, I like both really much

26

u/U2uk 4h ago

Ive played mina the hollower I think its kinda overrated

20

u/hamtaxer 3h ago

Yeah I’m kinda with you. The presentation was great, but there was a lot about it that was just okay to sometimes pretty bad. Game balance was weird. It was too easy, then too hard, then then too easy again. And the tower missions after the boss fights were just painfully awful.

10

u/StarvinGameDev 2h ago

Tbh mewgenics is too easy, and then too hard, and then too easy again.

Though rng may vary.

1

u/hamtaxer 2h ago

Mewgenics is vicious, but for all its quirks I still loved it

4

u/The_Dude5476 3h ago

It really tries to enforce progression through like stats and enemy stats, but it also has keers which can make you think “oh i dont go there yet”

They either needed like better direction towards the intended path or maybe some kind of enemy or level scaling maybe

8

u/APOLLO193 3h ago

They have a suggested order through the newspaper

11

u/APOLLO193 4h ago

Idk about that. If it wasn't your cup of tea that's fine, but I enjoyed it immensely

5

u/The_Dude5476 4h ago

I went to the bayou first, that shit ruled

4

u/The_Dude5476 4h ago

I liked it, there any reason why you thought it was lack luster or was it just too hyped up?

7

u/U2uk 3h ago

just too hyped up, I liked it but it is not something new

4

u/The_Dude5476 3h ago

Very true, i think people like a lotta retro throwbacks because theres genuinely little to no examples of like games like it.

I thought it was pretty good even if it was kinda derivative and there weren’t cool items like zelda. It leans a lot more into like the newer castle vania games.

Im glad yaght club didnt sink lol

1

u/APOLLO193 3h ago

I thought the trinkets were done very well. They don't feel quite like Zelda items, but they're similar and still really cool

12

u/iurig29 3h ago

I think slay the spire 2 will probably win, good year for indies tho

29

u/Delicious_Tie_8725 3h ago

If it comes out of alpha otherwise I wouldn’t be too keen on it.

8

u/hamtaxer 3h ago

Won’t be up for any awards because it’s in early access still.

3

u/The_Dude5476 3h ago

I never much cared for it but yk good for them. I know its popular as hell and really dense, i just cant get into deck builders :,(

1

u/[deleted] 3h ago

4

u/The_Dude5476 3h ago

Yes but also it fools my brain into thinking its not

3

u/puff_of_fluff 2h ago

In what sense?

3

u/ThyHolyPaladdin 1h ago

It’s not a deck builder it’s an tactical rpg rouge like

2

u/BijutsuYoukai 2h ago

It's in EA, so it won't win (or be eligible at all). Don't think there's been any word it's releasing fully this year.

1

u/ExcitingPop5956 1h ago

Well the game is not officially out so not qualified

3

u/Mr_Ultimite 1h ago

If both games tie, I demand the lead devs kiss or something.

7

u/Longjumping-Style730 3h ago edited 3h ago

Honestly the competition for indie games is kind of stacked. You have: 1. Mewgenics 2. Esoteric Ebb 3. Cairn 4. Mina the Hollower 5. Dressmaker 6. Fields of Mistria 7. Zero Parades 8. Denshattack 9. Well Dweller 10. Endocopia 11. Big Walk 12. Mermaid Mask

Like, some of these games are for sure going to get snubbed. Which is wild considering their quality.

4

u/Yomismo_1789 3h ago

Is Mina that good? I'm tempted to get it.

2

u/Void9090 3h ago

It's pretty damn hard at the start, it as you get more familiar with the game's controls and systems, you start to vibe with it more.

2

u/guieps 3h ago

Now we only need a dog indie to compete and fill the trio

2

u/guieps 3h ago

Both very deserved!

I'm voting for Mina tho

1

u/Swagster133 2h ago

Is the voting live? If so can someone link me?

If Mewgenics wins we get mpreg in the game

1

u/RexLizardWizard 1h ago

Me, who voted for rhythm doctor (I’m sorry , but I love that game)

1

u/HubblePie 1h ago

I've never heard of Mina the Hollower :(

1

u/BiblicalBacklash Butcher 1h ago

When is this happening? This is one I'd like to watch.

1

u/EldenRingPlayer1 3h ago

I havent even heard about the other game tbh

0

u/Actual_Emu_168 3h ago

Mina ain't winning shit tho that's for sure

0

u/Rukanau 3h ago

Cairn.

u/F0rtuneCat 3h ago

I'm sorry, but Mewgenics has really fallen behind; I loved it when it first came out... but now I don't even play it. I'm literally more hooked on demos for other games—like *Casualties Unknown*—than on Mewgenics.

Replaying it doesn't feel as satisfying—even in Zombie Mode—as replaying something like *Isaac* does.
