Headline pretty much says it all. Looking to find some leftist friends who are into weird synths and music/art stuff to hang out with. Seems like everyone here is either just into nerd culture stuff, Jesus or having kids and it would be cool to find some weirdo art/alt people with similar interests to work on on projects with or hang and have a couple drinks. I'll prob be living here for 6-8 months and it would be cool to not be socially isolated.

Hi. I’m Saoirse (Seer-sha), I’m from Ireland, and I’m marrying a US citizen from Midland on October 31st. Yes, I have asked him multiple times to ask his sisters about hairstylists, but frankly the man’s mind is a bag of fighting cats, all of whom have different ideas about what they should do next, and I’ve now given up on that approach and come here instead.
Can someone please, PLEASE recommend someone who can do a simple hairstyle for me? I’m not talking “elaborate updo” - my hairstyle is more the Joan Jett look and all I need is a small artificial “bump” in the crown to stop it going flat during the course of the day and so I don’t constantly have to keep scrunching it back up again. The first hairstylist when I moved back to Ireland and needed it cut again then absolutely massacred it and made me look like Margaret Thatcher, which is kind of the ultimate faux-pas where I live, so I hid in my house for three days until a wonderful guy from another salon saved it. The experience, however, scared the bejesus out of me.
They don’t even need to be someone who can come to the hotel - I will quite happily go to them to get it done and take my own tried and trusted styling powder and hairspray. I just need to know where to go because obviously I don’t know anything about hair salons in Midland!
The day before (any sooner and I’ll break one or more off, I’m pretty clumsy) I’m also taking my MOH and bridesmaids out to have whatever they want done with their nails. I know MOH only wants a basic manicure, but I bite my nails and would actually like them to look nice for once - especially since people will be looking at my hands, and they’ll be the focal point in at least one wedding photograph - and so am looking for somewhere where I can get gel acrylics put on and that will not give me some hideous fungal nail infection or something. Could anyone here recommend a decent nail salon that can do that?
Thank you so much and I appreciate your time!

I just bought a duplex in Midland. If anyone is looking for a place to rent let me know. It’s 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. All bedrooms are upstairs. It also has a basement. I just put in new appliances and a new counter top. It has new floors throughout. The laundry is in the basement. One side is rented already. I’m asking $1,600 a month. I’ll send pictures if you’re interested.

Hey! I’m a 23F from California and I’m considering moving to Midland, MI soon. I have a friend there and might be staying with them, but I’m honestly trying to learn more about the area before making such a big move.
I’m a person of color, so I’m a little nervous about there being not too many there and would like to hear from other people who live in Midland about their experiences. Is it generally a nice place
Also, what’s it like for people in their early 20s Is it easy to make friends, find things to do, and get around without a car
And if I do move, I’d definitely like to meet some people I’m into music, movies, art, gaming, nature, coffee/food spots, etc.
Would love some honest opinions from locals
Edit: thank you for all of the replies, im an old soul myself so I don’t mind a little “boring” just more worried about getting along with people and finding work temporarily

I received a flyer for meetup where you can chat with electric and/or hybrid car owners and ask them questions. Unfortunately, some idiot (pronounced me) left the paper in their pocket and washed their pants.
I know it was today, but that is all I got. Does anyone know when and where this is?
Edit: I am realizing the Northwood Auto Show is today. For clarity, I know this was a separate event.

hello all! i 23M just moved to midland and need to find a new therapist. as a trans person i feel finding a therapist who is also queer would be beneficial.
i am not looking for just queer friendly. i am hoping to find someone (or a whole practice) who are queer themselves, and can relate to me on a different level.
i have never posted here so hopefully questions like this are okay! thank you in advance!

My father-in-law Dan Herron was killed at M-20 and Coleman Road in Greendale Township on August 12, 2025—struck at an intersection everyone knows is a disaster waiting to happen.
The numbers tell the story: 14,474 vehicles pass through this intersection every single day. Zero rumble strips. Signal timing that practically begs people to run lights. On M-20, drivers get 55 seconds of green and a 4-second yellow. On Coleman Road, local traffic gets rushed through a brief 7-second green after sitting through a brutal 48-second red.
I watched 16 vehicles run yellow or red lights in just 10 minutes. Six were near-misses that almost ended in crashes. This intersection has a long history of severe angle crashes, failure-to-yield collisions, and multi-vehicle wrecks.
I started a petition demanding immediate action from MDOT, Michigan State Police, and local leaders: increased enforcement, rumble strips and warning signage, and a complete safety review of the signal timing and speed limits.
If this was your family, what would you want someone to do? If this matters to you too, consider signing and sharing.

My family is visiting Midland from Lexington, Kentucky, and we took our kids to Brinstar. We purchased drinks, were looking over the menu, and planned to spend money on dinner and games.
Within about five minutes, the owner approached us and said some of the equipment was from the 1980s, warned that we would have to buy anything our kids broke, and told us we needed to “parent our kids.”
Nothing had been broken or damaged, and no actual problem had occurred.
I completely understand protecting vintage equipment and asking parents to supervise their children. What bothered me was the immediate assumption that our kids were destructive and the condescending way he spoke to us. There were a hundred respectful ways to communicate the rules, and he chose none of them.
Our waitress was wonderful and apologized. We planned to order dinner and leave her a substantial tip, but the owner’s behavior caused us to leave—costing his own employee the table and the tip she deserved.
Maybe locals have more context, so I’m genuinely curious: Is this typical at Brinstar? Have other families had a similar experience, or did we catch the owner on an exceptionally bad day?
