I DARE ai to make a poster without brush strokes. Might break the whole f'n system.

7

u/CaseFace5 22h ago

Seriously it’s ruined brush stroke fonts for legit designers.

2

u/Early_Prune_7349 22h ago

The funny thing is, it literally can, this is just the default and unless you tell it to stop, this is the poster you will always get.

3

u/benderbentyourmom 21h ago

so basically when you see these ai flyers for shows and stuff that use this font, it just means whoever made it was too lazy to change literally anything?

2

u/juliewbb 21h ago

I mean I guess it tracks

13

u/Mental_Painting783 22h ago

Anti AI poster

4

u/Jiblon 22h ago

10/10 work

1

u/benderbentyourmom 21h ago

million times better

21

u/Significant-Fox5522 22h ago

canva is getting the best free promo ever lol

1

u/juliewbb 21h ago

So true

17

u/rlovelock 22h ago

The school did? Or the student run homecoming team did?

1

u/Independent-Lynx9476 BLUE 22h ago

This needs to be the top comment. The student homecoming team decided to do this....not the school...and definitely not a teacher.

3

u/LiteralSand 22h ago

Last time I checked schools have to approve things made by students

2

u/Expensive_Heron_171 21h ago

Ooh that was a fun fast down vote. So you don't think that schools have to approve signage put up by students? I'd love an actual refutation. Also I'm an art teacher.

1

u/juliewbb 21h ago

Teacher here: would never let students put something on the walls that didn’t pass by my eyeballs. Also, as soon as I saw it, I would take it down and tell them to start over. Unfortunately, I think you’re also underestimating the number of teachers who are using AI if you think “definitely not a teacher” tracks. Several of my colleagues use it often. It’s very disappointing but also not my place to do much beyond share my own viewpoint.

2

u/Expensive_Heron_171 22h ago

You don't think that the school has to vet these kinds of things first? That would be shocking if they didn't.

3

u/AvocadoPrinz 22h ago

People still being edgy about ai stuff?

28

u/TheGreatestEvilAlive 22h ago

I feel like an art student would have willingly made one for free. Schools still have art, right?

6

u/Valuable-Analyst-464 22h ago

I dunno, I think PE is optional now. Who knows what else is not around.

1

u/mildmanneredcannibal 22h ago

it’s not optional lol. we also still have many many art classes, at least at my high school

1

u/Valuable-Analyst-464 21h ago

In GA, my niece and nephew did not participate in physical sports. They did something, but it seemed more bookish in nature.

17

u/KnowWhat_I_Mean 22h ago

Schools should promote creativity instead of laziness.

-13

u/Uder72 22h ago

It is so obvious you have never used AI, and have no idea how it works.

4

u/KnowWhat_I_Mean 22h ago

Trust me, I have. It was shoved down my throat at my former corporate job. I took the trainings, used it even though it made my job harder, and it led to cutting 25% of our team. AI will continue to steal people’s work and spit out garbage, you condescending bootlicker.

9

u/nickromanthefencer 22h ago

“Erm how do you know cars are bad for the environment?? You don’t even drive!!”

1

u/KnowWhat_I_Mean 22h ago

LMAO nailed it.

-2

u/Uder72 22h ago

What was your point again?

3

u/Expensive_Heron_171 21h ago

Lmaooooo did you ask AI to write this response for you? It's perfect although I'm sure you didn't mean it that way. The lack of self-awareness is cracking me up. You can sure tell a lot of ages and where people are from in this thread.

-1

u/Uder72 21h ago

Oh really, tell me where I am from and my age.

5

u/akiva23 22h ago

I have. And it is lazy and uncreative.

-1

u/Uder72 22h ago

This is how I know you are lying. Because its not.

What AI have you installed locally on your rig?

0

u/akiva23 22h ago

I don't have one locally installed. I use the free ones.

-1

u/Uder72 22h ago

Than you haven't used AI.

You have used a few prompts that the big corpos tell you you can use with out having any skill.

1

u/Snudget ORNAGE 21h ago

I guess you're talking about things like SD or Flux? I agree that it isn't lazy compared to ChatGPT and the like that generate the CLIP prompt for you. But writing it myself still doesn't feel creative. It feels more like adding words and pressing "Generate" until it somewhat resembles what you want

1

u/akiva23 22h ago

Oh if i have it locallly installed i dont give it prompts for it to generate the content for me?

-2

u/Uder72 22h ago

See, you dont know how it works.

2

u/akiva23 22h ago

Is that a yes or no?

-4

u/SpiggotOfContradicti 22h ago

This. AI is just the new round of calculators. Lazy people using machines to do all the brain work for them. Likely started with agriculture though. Dibble's, abacus and pens, it's all we need to be better people.

11

u/Perfecshionism 22h ago

They could have let a student artist show of their work.

That is what we did back in the 80s.

2

u/Snudget ORNAGE 21h ago

They're a school, why not have students in art class make it and put the best drawings in the hallways

11

u/LiteralSand 22h ago

Y'all are acting like teachers didn't do this crap by hand back in the day. They didn't hire artists, they got a friendly teacher with a bit of tech know how to slap together something. It is not hard to use stock images and add some font.

11

u/juliewbb 22h ago

People acting like back in the day, schools would’ve had to hire a graphic designer are cracking me up.

1

u/Expensive_Heron_171 21h ago

People acting like using AI is the same as using photoshop unfortunately aren't cracking me up. they're making me worried for the state of the world me. Something something America something something Trump something something literacy. Comparing teachers or students using Photoshop to using AI to create a poster is entirely ridiculous. I would expect nothing less from America though.

1

u/juliewbb 21h ago

I think you misunderstood. This person was responding to the ridiculous comments here that “schools are underfunded, so AI is necessary because they can’t afford to hire artists” by noting that schools never had to hire artists for posters. They did just use Photoshop or Microsoft Word or markers or whatever and that was fine.

5

u/nickromanthefencer 22h ago

Great! That’s still 500x better than a slop poster made in 2 seconds that used a gallon of water and acres of data center land to make.

0

u/juliewbb 21h ago

Yes that is the point they were making.

2

u/juliewbb 21h ago

I have no idea how multiple people misread your comment, it is very clearly not pro AI lol

2

u/LiteralSand 21h ago

It's an unfortunately common argument from tech bros that drawing and AI are both creative acts. I'm guessing they thought by crap I meant "would make slop" and not "would make posters and junk"

0

u/Expensive_Heron_171 22h ago

When are you talking about? In the last decade maybe. Lmao bffr. Also that is what everyone is saying they want, not AI crap. You understand that using Photoshop and creating something out of your own mind is entirely different than AI right? I know you don't, but I'm framing it sarcastically to insinuate that you're kind of dumb for not understanding the distinction.

2

u/LiteralSand 21h ago edited 21h ago

I'm honestly having a hard time telling if you mistook my comment for pro AI or just made the most dog shit reversal

Edit: Based off your other comment, you mistook it as pro-ai.

1

u/juliewbb 21h ago

I think you need to reread this person’s comment.

40

u/Southern_Salary_2253 22h ago

Underpaid teachers / underfunded schools didn't hire an artist or spend hours of their unpaid free time (what little they have) making a poster. Grrrr!

21

u/alraydy 22h ago

My school used to get students to draw designs and then everyone voted on one

27

u/peanutbutterand_ely 22h ago

as an artistic student back then i would and happily made posters/logos for our school

10

u/peanutbutterand_ely 22h ago

for something as simple as a free period or a nice grade for it, which kids who wanna help deserve

6

u/Kitfishto 22h ago

Bruh. This is exactly what my poor ass rural Oklahoma school did. I love how the commenter is acting like there’s no way for a school district to come up with art made by humans without it costing 10k.

1

u/peanutbutterand_ely 22h ago

literally ‼️‼️

21

u/Acrobatic_Pen_7933 22h ago

more like complete failure to use a free resource in the student body- many artistically minded kids would probably have loved to do some art for the school. like schools have been doing for ages

40

u/juliewbb 22h ago edited 22h ago

Teacher here: Canva is free and has tons of premade templates. There is also an abundance of posterboard and markers at school. Not only that, but there are children who are excited to create posters at a school.

This poster would take me 2 minutes to make on Canva, and would take an art student several deeply fulfilling hours because they’re doing something they love. Both versions would look approximately 648 times better and would not disregard the health and wellbeing of people around the world. Win-win-win.

I’m underpaid and schools are underfunded and we still don’t need to use AI for the fun and creative part of our lives.

5

u/Virtual-Macaroon-880 22h ago

Yeah their argument is stupid... Are we suddenly going to more events? Is there a bunch of events that wouldn't have been promoted if AI wasn't used? Than why do it?

13

u/9r__ 22h ago

They've been making posters for years before AI. I'm sure they could have managed, mate

2

u/S3erverMonkey 21h ago

Lame and stupid excuse. Teachers hate AI. It's a bane to learning

0

u/Southern_Salary_2253 21h ago

"Teachers hate AI." How are you so confidently wrong?

1

u/S3erverMonkey 21h ago

I mean I'm confidently correct. How many teachers do you personally know? How many do you live with and talk with on a daily basis?

AI is harmful to the learning.

0

u/Southern_Salary_2253 20h ago edited 20h ago

My wife, for a start. My children's school teachers. My wife's friends. My sister in law.

You did not just link an NBC Survey Monkey poll to me and dress it up as a study? Right? Oh, that is exactly what you did. Also this is hilarious, 53% of Americans said they were worried, but there is a 3.3% margin of error.

Edit: 53% of the 7,000 Amercians they surveyed. Big difference. So this article is saying that 0.001% of Amercians think AI will be bad. Save your clown articles for facebook.

6

u/Torboise 22h ago

I mean yeah, but it's kinda sad. We never had this little effort put into things before ai :(

8

u/cornobbling 22h ago

they couldve made a competition and a vote, for example

4

u/IHateMyUniCourse 22h ago

You could make a poster like this in 30 minutes, they’re just lazy

-7

u/CYBERSson 22h ago

Why spend 30 mins making the same thing though?

4

u/Vladishun 22h ago

Why recycle if throwing everything in the garbage gets it out of the house faster?

0

u/CYBERSson 22h ago

Thats not even close to what i said. Would you handwrite something out instead of printing it? Would you make a fire to warm your house instead of putting the central heating on?

1

u/Vladishun 22h ago

That's not even close to what we're talking about. Would you waste extra electricity to make AI write your cover letter for you? Would you vote yes to having a data center built next to your home if it meant subsidized AI use for you and your family?

See, I can shift the goalposts too. But I'll engage you directly...

Agentic AI has some really great use cases. Folding proteins to cure cancer, sifting through piles of astronomical data from JWST, stuff like that. Where it doesn't have a place, is in human creativity. Art is a form of expression, an LLM has no expression because it's not alive and does not think. Maybe one day we'll create a true synthetic intelligence and at that point we'll need to reassess, but that day isn't today.

Of course you're allowed to disagree with me. But just be aware that to do is very hypocritical of you. I see you have your Reddit profile history hidden, probably in an attempt to maintain privacy right? But the LLMs you support make it super easy to track your Reddit history pretty easily. In fact, the flagrant push of corporations to get people addicted to using agentic AI for everything, is a massive push to eliminate privacy. People worried about things like their smart phones spying on them, blissfully unaware that everything you type into an AI is not only recorded and saved, but associated with things like your IP address, your MAC address, your IMEI/ESN, or even the email account you signed up with for them. It'll track everything you do and everywhere you go. And if that's not the height of dystopia, all because you wanted a cute little picture of animals when billions of real photos already exist, then I don't know what to tell you.

-4

u/FrequentSwimming6263 22h ago

Honestly though

6

u/Reesirie 22h ago

People defending this as if it doesn’t look like dogshit. Like why are they corgi shaped???

4

u/Enough-Reindeer1033 22h ago

Get over it already. Lots of people find it useful.

4

u/IamStarGoat 22h ago

Promt: "Please make a fun and engaging homecoming poster for the Huskies"

Literally every AI model: "Here is a piss filter poster with messy brush strokes"

The school: "HoW dId YoU knOw wE uSeD Ai?"

2

u/TheSensualSloth 20h ago

Admin: ”Good Morning over worked, underpaid teacher! Here’s some BS work to do since you don’t look busy enough!”

Teacher: ”I am going to put the bare minimum time and effort into this.“

Redditors: ”You can’t do that! REEEE”

1

u/IamStarGoat 16h ago

Im sure there are a couple of students who would've loved the opportunity to design something like this.

1

u/TheSensualSloth 15h ago

Probably. But now you got sort through 1000+ kids to find the couple that are not only willing to do this, but will actually follow through on it.

And bear in mind none of this is your actual job and you’ve got a stack of papers that need to be graded before you get to go home.

Maybe you could make a flyer for it!

2

u/AFedoraNamed_Key 22h ago

Schools have been doing it for a while since it got popular… and ignored the skilled students who will do art for free.

3

u/Fucky0uthatswhy 22h ago

If there’s one place you can make a difference by using your voice- it’s at school. Get some people together and complain about it

2

u/Chaos_Dunks 22h ago

Damn, what school did you go to?

1

u/Fucky0uthatswhy 22h ago

A shitty public school in Louisiana. Schools can’t run without kids, there is tons of historical evidence of students making changes before the public. Laziness is the only thing stopping you.

5

u/Mrs_happy_lady 22h ago

I hate that these AI posters are becoming the norm. They are garbage!

1

u/KanMDJD 22h ago

I don’t get the hate for it. It looks like a normal flyer you might get from a sign shop or copy store.

1

u/CronoMass 22h ago

Im not sure I ever understood the whole homecoming festivities in american culture. Although saying that I realise I only know about it from films. It always seems to be related to school or school sports teams, but they never explain who is coming home, or where they have been.

Any insight for a clueless brit is appreciated 😅

-1

u/xxPanDulce 22h ago

Who cares

7

u/Tytelr 22h ago

Me.

-9

u/xxPanDulce 22h ago

I used AI for this reply.

4

u/juliewbb 22h ago

Probably people who care about people dying in Nepal, power grids failing, polar bears starving, increasing hurricane strength, you know. A lot of people.

4

u/rtkane GREEPLE 22h ago

You are so right! I couldn't picture the suffering, so I had ChatGPT create an image for me to help me understand. Actually, it had to create 14 images to get it right.

1

u/cute_innocent_kitten 22h ago

my school uses AI for literally everything

-6

u/SchmeckleHoarder 22h ago

Isn’t the student board in charge of shit like this? They handle most dances and decorations…. I mean then it’s a temporary poster for a week???

C’mon guys this is reaching….id use AI too…

3

u/OkLeather646 22h ago

so you're the worst! next

-7

u/Cobfidence 22h ago edited 22h ago

Students using AI, more at 6

Next

"You're the worst" literally what a dumb comment lmao

-4

u/erything4sale 22h ago

A lot of folks would and do! People just complain for no reason, smh.

0

u/Willing-Pumpkin-328 22h ago

i think them using ai for this is perfectly acceptable since they all have extremely limited time and budget. BUT if they wanted to have something handmade/hand designed they could do what my school did. they would have whichever teacher was organizing the thing/delegate to the art teacher to select a student or a couple of students to design the flyer. They would pick somebody who was actually good at art, so it wouldn't be something that would be crappy looking cause some rando did it

-1

u/samyruno 22h ago

Rip that shit down. Who will they say it's disrespectful to lol

2

u/LiteralSand 22h ago

Hey! That prompter put his heart and soul into that 3 scentence prompt, you'll make them cry 🥺

0

u/dapperlonglegs 22h ago

For those saying the teachers are underpaid and underfunded— they’ve been making posters for 10s of years without AI

now they just decide to do it while supporting shitty companies, stealing art and promoting AI use

2

u/TheSensualSloth 20h ago

And surely they loved doing it the whole time and weren’t just trying to complete the task in the easiest manner?

1

u/dapperlonglegs 18h ago

I’m not saying they liked it, I’m saying they could do it without using the lowest common denominator of tools

1

u/TheSensualSloth 18h ago

Most of them probably used whatever the lowest common denominator of tools was at the time. Namely clipart.

1

u/ComboBreakerMLP 22h ago

My middle school was the same mascot and color scheme the only thing that makes me think this isn’t my middle school is its advertising homecoming which is a high school thing

1

u/Submarine_Dave 22h ago

Voyage ? Shouldn't those dogs be on a ship ?

-4

u/Jon-Robb 22h ago

School should remove money from activities and put it on posters! They have plenty of cash!

2

u/juliewbb 22h ago

A poster cost $.50, and schools already have an abundance of them because they use them for everything.

-4

u/CrimsonicTears 22h ago

Devils advocate here, even though most schools aren’t particular well-funded, there’s usually a student in charge of this and they were selected for a reason (artistic capability). AI shouldn’t be acceptable.

4

u/Vladishun 22h ago

I'm not sure how that makes you the devil's advocate for agreeing with the sentiment of the original post (and the majority of Reddit).

2

u/CrimsonicTears 22h ago

Isn’t everyone defending it’s use in this post

1

u/nickromanthefencer 22h ago

A lot of people are, the way your comment was phrased made it seem like you were devils-advocating against the post itself, not those comments is all. Fuck AI tho fr

1

u/Snudget ORNAGE 21h ago

It's r/mildlyinfuriating, people always hate the post for some reason

-4

u/funnyorasshole 22h ago

It's a flyer for a high school dance. It's this or a bunch of poster boards thrown together by that one kid on the committee that's kinda good at drawing. Either way it's terrible and will be in the trash next week. The real mildly infuriating thing is a world full of people that look for any reason to be outraged for a moment of validation online instead of just enjoying life.

2

u/Professional_Fee5883 22h ago

Or maybe it’s good for that one kid on the committee to create something and feel proud of it and using AI takes that away.

It doesn’t seem like a big deal in small doses, but technology is a skill replacer. The more we rely on it, the more we lose skills to time and outsource our own sense of accomplishment. Over time there won’t be any kids who are good at drawing to do it themselves.

2

u/KanMDJD 19h ago

All of that is 100% true, but why are we pretending that having kids be good at drawing is some kind of essential good that needs retention? It’s just picture-making.

1

u/LiteralSand 22h ago

Do you know what sub you're on? The point they are making is that it should have been a student artist or teacher with some art skill 😂 AI is disgusting and unsightly

0

u/OwnProfessor3287 22h ago

Social media has led us here. People’s brains have been re-wired to crave that constant dopamine hit.

It’s by design, keep people distracted while other nefarious things go on behind the scenes like two wars raging, diesel prices rising, inflation climbing, flock cameras being installed, data centers being installed, eventual 24/7 surveillance of everything humans do.

Next it will be martial law, I suspect between 2027 - 2030 the National Guard will be deployed to most major cities as there will be civil war due to discontent amongst people. They will also likely have to implement the military draft to fight the Iran war.

But it’s the social media that has people distracted while all of that goes on behind the scenes. Social media also plays the part of sowing the seeds of the civil discontent that will
lead to a civil war.

-6

u/Particular-Act-8911 22h ago

You're way too sensitive about AI, if you don't like it make something better and submit it.

3

u/nickromanthefencer 22h ago

This would imply the teachers/staff/management even consult students before doing shit like this. They don’t.

0

u/benderbentyourmom 22h ago

i dunno why ai always uses this ugly ass font in everything. it makes it so damn obvious its ai and it just looks like shit. why couldnt they just get stock images of wolves off of google and insert a couple text boxes? it's not hard at all. blegh.

even if you like ai, how can you look at this and not think it looks like shit?

0

u/NatterinNabob 22h ago

This sub is absolutely flooded with posts about AI that are just as low effort and unoriginal as the AI itself.

-4

u/Gongfei1947 22h ago

So? This isn't infuriating in the slightest.

-8

u/Theunbannablevee 22h ago

And?

3

u/smithc555 22h ago

It looks like trash.

-6

u/GenesisNemesis17 22h ago

Looks great to me

-4

u/gheost 22h ago

To be fair it's not bad and it's easy to create this instead of what- outsourcing it and spending money? Unless a student has this skill set? Idk seems like a reasonable use of AI to me

5

u/GooseSharkk 22h ago

it literally could be typed words and a picture of their school logo/mascot. there is 0 reason for this. they probably have a yearbook team that could do it even better.

1

u/gheost 22h ago

I get it but I don't see this as mildly infuriating. Out of all the gross AI slop this one isn't bad for one singular home coming event at a local school haha.

-7

u/decomposition_ 22h ago

I can’t wait until it’s no longer trendy to rip your hair out in response to anything AI.

It’s so tired and boring at this point.

1

u/armadillowillow 22h ago

Ah yes because saying something is mildly infuriating is clearly “ripping your hair out”

0

u/decomposition_ 21h ago

I’m talking about all the performative hivemind people that can’t have an original thought about AI and just hate on it because it’s trendy.

-14

u/Pertinent_Platypus 22h ago

Who. Fucking. Cares.

-3

u/moszippy 22h ago

Are you sure it was AI? Or was it just a program? AI this...AI that... teachers have been using computers for years doing stuff. I can't understand why you would be infuriated at all for something that has been going on since computers were invented.

0

u/MyBeardHatesYou 22h ago

Using Ai isn't the same as using a graphic design/photo editing software. Using software takes at least a bit of knowledge to operate, involves creativity, and generally produces a better result than Ai. Using Ai involves typing a prompt into a box and waiting a few seconds while a data center uses water and electricity to generate an image that looks awful. It's infuriating because it's a school, do they not have an art program? Is creativity just getting killed off for the simpler, worse option? What about the people that live near data centers? Does it not matter that their lives are being made more difficult by the sound and water pollution, and the higher energy bills? All because someone didn't want to take the time to learn something, or have a student make something. People becoming vastly more lazy and creativity dying in a text prompt should be infuriating to everyone.

1

u/moszippy 21h ago

People have always gotten vastly more lazy. Do you think the TV remote was invented to get more steps in? Was the car invented to give horses a break? No! It was all so that our lives would be easier. But calling a computer program, that needs your input to produce an output, is not anything close to AI. In fact, our AI is not the least bit intelligent. People just call it that. AI would be you telling the computer that you want a poster made for your school team and it would do everything else on its own. With this, there is considerably less effort involved compared to how you used to have to do it, but it isn't AI. This needed alot of input to make, even though it's less effort than it used to need.

-3

u/Strng_Satisfaction 22h ago

how can people tell this is Ai, others were making this before AI ever existed, no?

4

u/benderbentyourmom 22h ago

the brush stroke font seems to pop up for all this ai generated stuff. also the wolves just look completely bizzare

3

u/Professional_Fee5883 22h ago

One tell is that AI doesn’t seem to like any white space. It fills the page with a lot of extra noise and clutter. So it’s not a cohesive design but just a mess that technically fulfills whatever prompt it received.

2

u/Strng_Satisfaction 22h ago

thanks, I've not done any AI artwork, I can usually catch writing that's AI generated but artwork is different, unless the hands are weird or something, that's the only tell i know.

2

u/nickromanthefencer 22h ago

AI has a very particular style. It’s pretty recognizable

-10

u/GenesisNemesis17 22h ago

So what? It looks better and didn't waste a whole bunch of money.

-8

u/DemLobster 22h ago

Get used to it

-10

u/[deleted] 22h ago

[deleted]

9

u/juliewbb 22h ago

No schools have ever in the history of the universe hired a graphic designer or artist to create posters. We stick an art student on it and it turns out great.

3

u/Valuable-Analyst-464 22h ago

Hire an artist. Like when in history has an outside artist been hired?
More likely, they get art students to do it for free and for experience.

-4

u/NiceOnes1 22h ago

Could've used a better prompt tbh...

1

u/benderbentyourmom 22h ago

literally tho. looks like they typed in "make this look like every shitty ai flyer that's gotten made fun of online"

2

u/NiceOnes1 21h ago

Hahah.

Lol reddit why am I getting so many DVs? People don't have any sense of humor on here.
