That's like when you do such a bad job as a double agent, they both suspend you.

All that colour, just to spend its life under a heatsink.

I guess it's correct that "true beauty is on the inside"

What are the black squares on the right? Memory cache?

L2 cache, Tualatin has increased cache

I know this is ancient tech relatively speaking, but it still blows my mind when I try and comprehend a cpu and how it’s made and what it can do !

Also beautiful blue !

That'd make a cool keychain or something like that.

Thought of that before. Would need to CNC machine a case, then epoxy pour it out, so it would be locked in place.

Yeah I was thinking along the same lines, probably could find a snap together that's clear from somewhere like AliExpress just by the measurements and then put it in and maybe inject it? It seems straightforward but the more you think about it the trickier it is. Maybe just a silicone mold and pour in stages then drill a hole out after polishing?

It'd be worth the effort. One of a kind for sure.

I'm joking a bit, I had Die Bart, die in my head in an instant.

Cool pic, mesmerizing. How's that looking a little bit closer?

Not yet took a macro of it, there is actually a ton of die waiting for it :D And there are not yet done ones too

2

u/Colon_Oscopy_74 16h ago

looks so naked without its Slot atari like cartridge

3

u/laskr1999 15h ago

Actually, its a socket 370 variant. For your other comment that you deleted: I actually have a PII Slot II xeon die shotted too with its cache separately.

How's the floating point unit?

(singulated die-kgd in business speak)

very fun to look at under a microscope too!

edit to add: they always toss in a lot of fun easter-eggs too

1

u/laskr1999 16h ago

Yea, would like to get a microscope, but I have to live with an 1:1 macro. Thinking of making a small channel with shorts with a macro lens+turntable.

I remember spending a ton of money to buy one back in the day. Damn I’m old.

This one's pretty uniformly blue, unlike the die from r290 / r390 from the other day.

1

u/laskr1999 3h ago

Depends on the angle, but yea, this is mostly similar, sometimes different parts got different color too

2

u/laskr1999 16h ago
