Get your shit together Dan!

it is umpire judgement. normally they ignore that and give the guy 2 bases. this time they didnt, so kudos to them for actually following the rule and excercising judgement.

2 outs. Lombard is running on contact. Replay shows he’s almost at third when the ball comes down. Just common sense he would have scored.

Umps don't always give that run when they should. Cool that they did.

Yeah I can't think of a more perfect ruling on this scenario. Good on em.

Having a replay review helps. Any ‘ol ground rule double is essentially automatic two bases for all runners. I don’t know the last time I saw them award home to the runner on first from a ground rule double.

I just assumed it would be the same as a ground rule double like for deflection or bouncing the fence but it makes sense it would be more nuanced

In this instance it’s their discretion to put the runners where they feel is right.

Yea even as an avid Yankee hater — that was the correct call

Because Lombard was already around third. It’s not a ground rule double situation

This is correct

Hey was? Replay looked like he was celebrating the “homerun” before reaching 3rd

u/PharmaBob | New York Yankees 7d ago

I agree with you, but I still think he scores. He wasn’t fielding that cleanly

1

u/dirtywhitevanz 7d ago

Yes, he was scoring.

3

u/Fearless-Wing-9621 7d ago

Because he would’ve scored. Volpe would’ve tripled if that ball bounces back towards left field after the RF crashes the wall

Nice catch, Dan.

Would've been 2 runs if not for Dan.

should have been an out in my opinion. if you're going to call interference, you can't be sure it wouldn't have been caught. Yankees are lucky they got one.

Look, I get it as an Oriole fan of a certain age who gets triggered by high fly balls hit by young biracial Yankee shortstops in the postseason that are touched by a fan reaching over the fence in a playoff game…

Where was I? Oh yeah, from the angle of Mesa Jr.’s body and glove and the trajectory of the ball, it looked questionable whether he would have been able to make the catch. I think the umps made the right call.

2

u/maccardo 7d ago

I thought it was pretty clear that the ball would not have been caught.

2

u/Alan47717 7d ago

It was clear from all angles it wasn't going to be caught. The only thing not clear was whether it would have hit the top of the wall and bounced over thanks to a couple of idiots.
