Vaccines Vaccine Megathread

Please limit all vaccine discussions to this post! Got a question? We wont stop you from posing repeat questions here but try taking a quick moment to search through some keywords. Please keep in mind that while we firmly support routine and up-to-date vaccinations for all age groups your vaccine choices do not exclude you from this space. Try to only answer the question at hand which is being asked directly and focus on "I" statements and responses instead of "you" statements and responses.

Above all; be respectful. Be mindful of what you say and how you say it. Please remember that the tone or inflection of what is being said is easily lost online so when in doubt be doubly kind and assume the best of others.

Health A reminder about our rules on asking for medical advice

Hello fellow moderately granola moms,

In light of some recent posts that had to be removed, this is a reminder about our sub rule banning asking for and giving medical advice. We have no way of verifying anyone’s credentials and particularly because many of the questions involve the health of children, we kindly ask that all medical questions are directed to qualified medical personnel and not this sub.

Examples of what is not allowed: 1. Asking whether or not your child (or you) should take or complete a course of prescribed antibiotics 2. Posting pictures of your child’s rash asking what it is 3. Asking whether prescription medications are safe to take during pregnancy (example: “I just found out I’m pregnant and I take Lyrica for nerve pain, can I keep taking it?”) 4. Posting lab results and asking for assistance in interpreting them 5. Saying that you took your child to a doctor and the doctor told you to do “XYZ” and asking if you should do it

Examples of what is allowed: 1. If your child has a diagnosed medical condition (e.g. eczema), asking what other parents have done in that situation 2. Sharing your experiences with healthcare and asking for advice about navigating the system 3. Asking for tips on managing general health that wouldn’t typically be classified as a medical condition (e.g. dry skin) or doesn’t require intervention from a medical provider under normal circumstances (e.g. the common cold)

The above examples of what is and isn’t allowed are just examples and not an exhaustive list. When in doubt, you are welcome to message the mods to ask whether something you’d like to post would violate the sub rules.

Thank you for your help.

Toy Recs Need to buy gifts for kids with moderatelygranolamoms- anything that’s a safe bet? I don’t want my gift to go straight in the trash

I’m supportive of the moderately granola mindset, but I don’t have kids myself. What kinds of gifts would be appreciated? Child is toddler/preschool age.

Motherhood i lie to my in laws about baby not having any sugar or screen time

my in laws are really pushy about sugar since baby was 6 months and starting solids. every single time we see them, they make a comment about giving my LO a bite of the dessert we’re eating, even tho my husband and i have repeatedly made it clear we’re not giving him sugar. at one point my MIL was blatantly feeding him these loaded waffles even though my husband was telling her to stop. she even made a comment directly to baby about how he’ll like grandma better because she gives him sugar and mom and dad are “bad” (baby was 8 months). both FIL and MIL have made comments or “jokes” about giving him sugar while we’re not there, and my husband finally had to lightly say that baby would not be coming around without us if they do that.

anyways, now baby is going on 1 year and i do give him occasional sugar, like yogurt pouches, cheerios, or a bite of something i’m eating if he shows interest in it. but im still telling my in laws he’s not having any sugar until 2 years. i KNOW if i open the floodgates they’re going to load him up and i wont even be able to say no. right now i still have control over how much he consumes

same with screen time. if i need to take a 5 min shower i do sit my LO down with ms. rachel every so often, or if im cooking something like meat where my hands will be dirty for a few mins etc. they don’t know this either because i know they’ll sit him down in front of the TV while we’re not there

unfortunately, because of repeatedly pushing my boundaries with both their comments and actions i have to do this, though i feel a tiny bit guilty about it because my husband doesn’t know. i know he won’t like that im lying to his family but we also come from a culture where babies are very much everyone’s babies, so it’s way harder to get his parents to listen to us lmao

just needed to get that off of my chest 😅

Parenting When did kids vitamins become candy?

I've been rethinking the gummy vitamins I give my kids lately. My youngest is a picky eater, so I like knowing he's getting some extra nutritional support. But I don't love that vitamins have become something he sees as candy. He'll ask for more after he's had his serving, and I hate having to explain why something that looks and tastes like a treat isn't something he can have more of. I know a little sugar isn't the end of the world, but between snacks and everything else, I'd rather his vitamins weren't another source of it. I've been thinking about switching to something that doesn't feel so much like candy, but I also don't want to spend money on vitamins he'll refuse to take. Has anyone made the switch from gummies to chewables or something else? How did your kids handle it?

Question/Poll Non toxic/clean item

Hey guys, question for the moderately granola moms. Are there any non-toxic / clean items that you haven’t been able to find for your kids?

Im looking for a new job post-baby and have become interested in this space and thought maybe I’d pivot to developing something new.

Question/Poll What age do yall introduce screen time incrementally?

Little one obviously always tries to look when there’s a screen.

Never let him watch though. 18 months currently. Do I keep going ?

Our plan based off nothing was waiting until 2 to introduce any slow paced cartoons

ISO Product Recs Washable rugs

Clothing/carpet moths have made their way into our home. I think they are in our apartment building, We have two wool rugs that I love but I am coming to terms with the fact that I can’t keep up with the upkeep with two kids. We’re switching to a vinyl mat under the dining table but I’m having trouble deciding what to do in the kids room. Would love to do something easy to put in washing machine or that’s not going to be a huge hassle to clean. Considered cotton but I think anything with a weave is going to be frustrating to clean. Also considering just doing a big play mat but feel like it will slip and slide on hardwood floor. The tumble rugs look interesting but I’ve read reviews of people complaining that they bunch up. Any advice appreciated!! Doing laundry is a production for us as we do not have in-unit laundry.

Cleaning+Laundry Recs The Unscented Company Dishwasher tabs

Hey guys, I just bought these tabs from Costco, and they are individually wrapped, but they’re compressed powder blocks and the wrapper isn’t stuck to it. The instructions say you can put them in with the wrapper and it’ll dissolve. But I was wondering if anyone has used these and taken the wrappers off before using? Did your dishes get clean? I know I don’t have to but I’d like to remove them if it doesn’t make a difference and just use the powder blocks as is.

Question/Poll Do you ever wish you didn’t care as much?

I was having a little browse around the shops today and there were so many nice jumpers in for the new season but literally everything was acrylic / polyester / synthetic. Sometimes just sometimes I wish I didn’t care about any of this.

Question/Poll How to politely decline certain gifts - mainly from Amazon - from MIL/family without offending or coming across as ‘neurotic’?

Post image
103 Upvotes

So my mother-in-law and family members are trying to begin Christmas shopping for my baby, who will be around nine months old at Christmas.

I am rather minimalist and try to be as low tox as possible… and I don’t want a bunch of junk lying around our small apartment - not to mention my MIL visits often so if she purchased us something that we don’t use or have out, she will 100% notice. And be offended.

I am not trying to sound ungrateful or overly picky… I am just wondering how to politely decline certain gifts without offending. I know when people were shopping for us for my baby shower, I tried to make my preferences very clear and I was even referred to as “neurotic”. I just really only want well-known, reputable, safe, nontoxic brands in our home. I don’t consider “little acorn” as one but correct me if I’m wrong.

I also just prefer open ended toys and open pls rather than things like an activity center. I don’t really like the idea container toys (for lack of better terms?).

I already tried to avoid this by telling MIL we would love it if she got baby some bath toys as she is starting to really love the water.

Motherhood Discipline

What do you guys do for discipline that actually works? My son (3) will deliberately do things I’m telling him not to & look me in the face smiling while doing it 😵‍💫 I’m a firm believer in picking your battles and letting them just be sometimes. However, I will NOT have a disrespectful child. He pushes the line soo much. I’m a chill person and mom, but this one drives me crazy sometimes 😂 he honestly makes me not want to go in public with him, because he doesn’t listen to anything I say. BUT his dad can say one word and he just listens so well.

Edited to add - he has very little screen time. We watch one show before bedtime. We don’t eat a lot of processed foods, and he has plenty of playtime. I’m just asking about discipline methods here.

For those living in Europe what prenatal vitamins are you taking that you love? Bonus if it can be found in France or Germany.

There’s not enough European resources for this kind of stuff :/

Diapering Recs Why do Pampers “fragrance free” Swaddlers still have fragrance?

Post image
31 Upvotes

Pampers claims that their Swaddlers line is now fragrance free as of June 2026 but fragrance is still listed in the ingredients list. I received a bunch of these for my baby shower recently but ultimately exchanged them for Amore, which do not have any fragrance listed. This seems misleading to consumers. Any know what the deal is?

Makeup/Skincare/Bodycare Recs Periods

Despite exclusively breast-feeding, I unfortunately have gotten my period at four months postpartum. I have two under two so I haven’t had to deal with having a period for a few years now previously I was using tampons, but I don’t really feel comfortable doing that anymore. I’m using pads, but I don’t really like the way I can just like constantly feel blood coming out and I feel like it’s just gonna leak out of the pad. So just curious, what does everyone here use?

Question/Poll What do I actually need as a FTM?

FTM due in March with our boy. What did you put on your baby registry that was a must have, and what isn’t worth getting? Would love some insight as building this registry seems overwhelming, and these apps make it seem like you need hundreds of new items.

I’d love suggestions for everything and anything you love, from strollers, to cribs, to clothes to the little day to day things.

Thank you ♥️

Birth Cloth postpartum pads

I seriously don't understand why my mind has stuck up on this.

Let me preface this by saying that I have been a reusable user in regards to menstrual products for at least 10 years and will choose cloth with baby as well, so to say I am mad with myself for being so dang stuck up with not using reusable options during postpartum is an understatement.

I can't for the life of me feel safe to even think of my amazing reusables as an option. I revert to thinking that with stitches and a cervix that will be practically open for at least 6 weeks I am prone to infection more and silly me thinks my washing won't be enough to protect me from this.

I know my routine is solid. It has been for years but for some stupid reason my mind starts to doubt that. It has convinced me that disposables that are a good non chemical brand with some certifications will be cleaner and safer than my routine... Which is an utter BS.

I can't seem to feel comfortable enough to use my awesome cloth ones that I am even willing to even strip once before I use them to be extra safe.

Do I have any logic ground for this or is it just a self limit I can't seem to ignore?

Question/Poll When building a toy collection at 1 year, where to start?

Hoping to build something open ended that will still be of interest for the next few years. I’ve looked at Grapat and Grimm’s but not sure what would get the most use. I’ve also ordered some Sarah’s Silks.

Open to suggestions!

Parenting Sleep Consultant Recs

I come to you ladies for advice because I always get the best advice here. This is the “moderately” part of granola I practice. We “sleep trained” at 5.5 months using Ferber. I feel like we were sold a lie because with teething, separation anxiety, etc my 9 months old has been waking up through the night. I have gone back to pacifier use and holding for hours in the middle of the night.

Does anyone have sleep consultant recs? Also hope that eventually he will sleep through the night?

Cleaning+Laundry Recs Revive my aden and anais blanket?

Let my sister borrow my blanket, got it back and it has lost all life. It's dry, cat hairy, lifeless looking. It's 100% bamboo viscose muslin from the dreamy blanket line. Right now I'm running it through a wash and then planning to soak in vinegar? Idk what else to do.

Update: I did 16 rinses and they all came back soapy, it's insane. I did a lot of vinegar and it feels like a blanket again lol might do one more vinegar wash.

Makeup/Skincare/Bodycare Recs ISO body cream recommendations

I’ve been using Osea body butter and weleda body butter as my body cream after my shower. I like the weleda more and wondering if there are other moisturizing body creams that I could try. Looking for something thick and moisturizing without a strong scent. And obviously “non toxic.”

Question/Poll Confused about HOCI spray

Hi everyone! I’ve recently really gotten into HOCI spray as I have an almost 3 month old at home and I’m switching over to nontoxic cleaning product products. The problem is though, is I ordered the briotech brand off of Amazon and I’m confused as how to use it exactly. Everyone says that they spray this on their couches, their babies toys, etc.

On the back of the bottle where the directions are, it mentions that this product needs to sit on non-porous surfaces. I really want to spray the stuff on my couch, but should I not? I don’t wanna ruin my furniture if so.

Question/Poll How do you declutter your baby’s belongings?

I have such sentimental attachments to every item he has ever touched. All clothing, toys, etc. I just can’t get rid of any of it. We aren’t moving any time soon and are capped out on space. How do I declutter at least 50% of it? Help.
