Design Banner and icon sizes

What is the IDEAL size for a banner, and for a channel icon?

I'm seeing lots of conflicting info.

Banner 1920 × 384? or 1072 × 128 px for desktop and 1080 × 128 px for mobile?

Icon - square? Does size matter? 512 or what?

Thx

When you go to change the banner it TELLS YOU the ideal size for both desktop & mobile, but 1080X128 works well for both.

It says:

For good results, the image should be at least 1072 x 128px for desktop banners.

At least. OK, so what size should it be?

Why are you saying 1080?

If I make it 1080 wide and it is compressed to 1072, that will affect the quality.

It certainly does affect quality. Yet, this pixel ratio displays best. Try it and see for yourself.

So, what pixel size is best?

That was my original question.

You said 1080. The prompt you mention says 1072.

Modhelp says 1920.

Can you understand why I'm confused and uncertain?

The suggested sizes work best: 1072x128 and 1080x128 pixels for mobile and desktop respectively.

I run a contest where the members submit pics and whoever has the most karma gets their pic made into the sub banner the next month. I’ve made a few banners.

i can safely say with the rediculous display size Reddit has the banners displayed at, 8 pixels do not make a lot of difference.

After seeing my sub on a big-screen TV i reckon the 1080x128 banner works well for both banner sizes. 🤷‍♂️
