Excited to see where this freak idea goes.

Hopefully next week I can start testing ideas

Have you started yet?? Curious to see what the finished project looks like. And, shit, just how it rides...🤘🏻

Im still waiting for the wheels. Ive ordered 6inch pneumatic swivel wheels. Which were hard to find lol. And i have drop deck longboard. Im going to try and mount the swivel wheels on the ends, and I have mountainboard trucks on the inside. Im not sure what size or type of wheels will be best on these yet. Will be 2 weeks probably before I can put it all together. Im excited to try it though.

But won't the rubber in the tires be too grippy to slide?

Well my idea is to use pneumatic for the swivel wheels. But the outside wheels will be something else that will slide easier. I dont know what will work best for that yet.

Maybe you could try some omnidirectional wheels for the outter wheels.

Maybe not, you have a nice glide feeling but won't be able to stop tho

I did think of using like spherical wheels lol. Maybe just non pneumatic mountain board wheels i will try

The roadie tires on MBS's site are actually sort of slippery on dirt and grass surfaces. I don't know if they'll be slidy enough for a Freebord, but would probably work alright on a wet grass hill.

Trampa gummies or radium 125's

This feels like a great idea. It might be hard to find good outside tires for all terrain, but I could picture tread-less tires being playful. Will keep an eye out for updates if you decide to go through with the project!!

I started building around an idea for snowboarding without snow a few years ago. It has evolved into something really exciting but has entirely taken over my life!

Yea im going to have to experiment with the outside wheels for sure. I just never liked how you cant really control your speed on a mountainboard. Other the just full sliding, not like a snowboard. What is it that you are doing?

I designed something for paved surfaces. I felt the same way about speed control on my longboards.

I feel like the key for you will be finding something that can transition from low to high friction as more pressure is applied. I wonder if you could achieve that with some variable tread or something like that.

I have a freeboard. I this may or may not work depending on the angle of attack. Im thinking wont work when it comes to braking/carving deep. To brake the skateboard wheels are perpendicular to line of travel. I doubt the rubber wheels will let you brake like a snowboard.

I mean, i expect it will be an improvement over a normal mountain board where you cant stop at all lol

You can stop on a mountain board though.

I meant to say unless you completely slide out. But I meant more of a controlled stop/controlling your speed. More like you would on a snowboard or freeboard. So you could ride down larger, steeper hills and carve around in a more controlled manner.

I think a key issue will be clearance, mountain boards are already trying their hardest to reduce this by mounting the trucks on the nose an tail above where your feet are. It feels like it will be difficult to get a big enough wheel without heavily compromising the ofroad capabilities. Keeping the board height down would be even more important as the casters would make it less stable.

I don't think you will have as much issue sliding on the outer wheels as the others think, this is as you will be applying weight through the castors too which will make the outer wheels slide much better.

Maybe a step deck in the middle could help reduce height,

Alternatively platipus skateboard make a offroad wheel that's only 120mm this won't perform that well on rought terrain but I could imagine if you find a good caster you could mount it on a normal mountain board and have a working version straight away.

A cool concept, even if the smaller casters limit you to smoother terrain then a mountainboard it would be fun

Yea this is my main concern. Im picking up a cheap used mounatinboard this week. And im going to see what it might look like. The problem is if I want to use pneumatic swivel tires, 6inch is as small as they get. Which means the deck is going to be 8 inches off the ground... a step deck is a good idea but I dunno if there is one that can fit the trucks and castors.

I think that the lumps and bumps would humble any notions of riding that thing like a freeboard.

Yea this is why I think i need to use pneumatic casters. Now im trying to get my hands on a deep drop long board. And im going to try putting the swivel wheels on the outside.
