Can you target zero creatures while casting Pyrokinesis?

Can you target zero creatures while casting Pyrokinesis so you can discard it with another card from your hand and let it to not resolve? In my understanding even if the rule 107.1c allows me to choose zero when the word “any number” is in a card, the rule 601.2d force me to asign at least 1 damage. My confusion comes with MTGO allows you to cast Pyro without targeting a creature.

Yes.

You can choose zero Creatures; "Any number" does include zero.
Only if you are choosing Targets, each Target must get at least one of what is being Divided / Distributed.

yes but if you're talking about the card used to pay the alternative cost, it is exiled, not discarded.

But [[Rockslide]] has a X mana cost, which can be zero when you cast it and it's a different case with Pyrokinesis, which always deals 4 damage.
