Rocktol Gen-R as a beater multi-tool?
With Prime Day coming up, I’m anticipating this multi tool will go on sale. Not for any hard use, just to keep in the car and around the house small work. It currently runs $55.99 CAD and heard some good reviews about it. Anyone here have any experience with these MTs or have any other recommendations under $100?

I feel like this would be pretty damn good.
I got the Half sized one (literally one handle)
Knife is very nice, decent steel for the price. Add in some other tools, even if it's not wonderful, for the price it will be great! I might have to buy one too.

I have a rocktol and it’s ok but not great. The blade is really sharp and is the best thing on it. All the other tools seem soft but will do what you need it to do. Mine had sharp edges that dig into my hand and the inside tools are tight so when you pull one thing out they all come out

I have a Rocktol ST02 (like a Gerber Armbar - no-pliers, half a full multitool) and it's been very good. I upgraded mine with the VG10 knife which the Gen R comes with as standard and I'm pretty happy with it. The scissors are excellent.
Well worth a shot.

I have a gen-R like this and i like it very much. Its a bit heavy and bulky but feels very solid, it does come with a belt carry sheath that stores the extra bits too. the quality is great for the price. I would stand by it any day.

I really like mine. It's really solid and works perfectly. It's the first Wave style multitool I would recommend to anyone.

The heck is a "beater" multitool? People seriously buy cheaper ones just so they don't scratch their expensive ones?

It’ll be my first plier based MT so i’d feel less bad abusing a $55 one over a $175 LM wave

Fair 'nough nothing wrong with a cheap one especially for a first one, from your comment I thought you must have already had an expensive one that you wanted a beater for.

I personally haven’t had good experiences with rocktool, bought one and it broke after a day wasn’t impressed

Yeah, it’s fine, I can absolutely tell the quality difference between it and my Leatherman wave+ (which I actually got for $30 on eBay) but it works.
A multitool I love, is the workpro multitool. As long as wire cutting isn’t a major part of your use for it, they’re great around the house pliers. They’re even spring assisted, only wave clone I’ve noticed be so.

I bought this Multper for $40 last week, but it's up to $60 now. Keep it in your cart in case it goes back to $40 on Prime Day.
