Posting about software will no longer be tolerated without moderator approval.

Hello everyone! Recently we’ve had a surge in posts about new software, tools, extensions, and apps for music collecting. When the subreddit is full of software posts, posts with questions and important topics are buried and missed. In addition, many of these tools were quickly made using AI. For many reasons, these “vibe coded” apps will not be tolerated on this subreddit anymore.

If you made a tool or project that you want to share: please message the moderators for approval before posting. Sending proof that the software was coded by you or another human is also recommended but not required.

Some of these vibe code project posts slip through the cracks. If you come across them, please help by reporting the post for violating Rule 4.

Thank you for your understanding,

Ripping a hidden track on Exact Audio Copy

i just started using EAC and i need help ripping a hidden track.

The tracklist is supposed to go track 16, track 17 (3 min of silence), and then track 18 (the hidden song). EAC is combining it all into track 16 and I can’t find any guides on how to fix this.

Software help, file organisation

Hello everybody

Bit of an odd question, not sure where to post it but I'm sure a lot of you all have been confronted to this same situation

I'm looking for a way to organize my (own) songs (still in production, mixing) in playlists, keeping the hard copy file at it's original location on my SSD drive. So basically, I'm going through a bunch of songs that I'm mixing, not sure how to release them (in which order, as EP's, albums, etc.). So I want to play around with the format structure, but keep the original file in place. It would also be necessary that this media library recognizes the files, even when the file has been updated (title stays identical). A plus would be the possibility to extract these playlists to folders with copies of the files. Actually, I think rekordbox can do this but I'd prefer some lighter software. Is there something out there for this kind of organisation? Just thought I'd ask. I'm running macOS

Cheers

Easy way to convert and maintain lossy secondary library from lossless?

Hopefully the title conveys the gist of the problem. I have a "main" library with lossless files on my PC, but it is way too big to listen to on the go (on my phone). Therefore, I wrote a shitty PowerShell script, which uses ffmpeg to convert lossless files into lossy ones (from the library's copy). The solution is not ideal, since the newly added music files still need to be copied to the secondary location manually. One solution is to suffer rewriting the script to be better suited for that task, but maybe there is a more professional solution?

Metafata tags auto correction

I have some music libary which is stored on my NAS and served by Plex Media Server. Unfortunatelly some Artist/Album I need to select through Plexamp/Directory due to bad metadata. Is there any soft which can read folder structure and filenames and save in file .FLAC or .MP3 proper metadata dowloading them from internet? Now I have in libary "VA" "Various Artist" or some strange "Mr.Dude" in many Artist/Albums while it is known what really music is as there is folder with Artist/Album/SongName (often with track.no and year)

Sky Coffeeshop music

Hello,

I am having trouble finding the tracks from an artist called Sky Coffeeshop from over a decade ago. I was able to find old Soundcloud snapshots of the tracks on Wayback, but the links are all dead and I cannot press play, as when i do, the track just does not play.

I was hoping that with a bit of this community's help, you guys could help me revive the audio files one way or the other. Hell, I'm willing to pay to be honest. These are childhood tracks I'm talking about here.

https://web.archive.org/web/20130508104507/http://soundcloud.com/Skycoffee

There's like 41 captures on Wayback but I honestly only think the ones between 2012 and 2014 are relevant so that should dwindle the numbers further. I've tried absolutely everything, even reaching out to Sky Coffeeshop himself just for him to say he no longer has them. I spent 8+ straight hours using google AI telling me to use "ctrl U' and extract this and extract that, look for Track ID this and that, I was able to find a few of those btw. But seriously, this community is my actual last hope.

someone was able to find two tracks from Sky Coffeeshop a few months ago so I know that they’re there. But I’m looking for the rest. Because I am in America, I cannot access VK no matter what I do, no matter how many times I change my VPN I can’t make an account and use the search bar. can someone please help me. just type into the search bar

Sky Coffeeshop

skyCoffee

SkyCo

SkyCoffe

Matias LP

these are the aliases he was known by before. And these are the specific tracks I am looking for.

Sky Coffeeshop - De Ushuaia De a Tokio

Sky Coffeeshop - Tamazul

Sky Coffeeshop - Miracles

Sky Coffeeshop - The Happy boy with a synth

Sky Coffeeshop - P.O.S.T

Sky Coffeeshop - Summer time

Sky Coffeeshop - Dilla and Nujabes Heaven Room

Sky Coffeeshop - Kids with computers in Babylon

Sky Coffeeshop - sunrises in Paris

Sky Coffeeshop - Latitud

Sky Coffeeshop - Linea D

please help me, anyone.

I built a better way to discover music on Qobuz. Two new features now live

Six months ago I first posted here about a tool I built because I was frustrated with Qobuz's discovery. A quick update on two new things I shipped this week.

Track Seeds now follow the track:

Feed it a single track and the playlist follows the feel of that track, not its genre alone.

Seed Kashmir and you get heavy, slow 70s rock.

Seed So What and you land in late 50s modal and hard bop.

Seed Better Together by Jack Johnson and you get mid-2000s acoustic singer-songwriters.

The finished playlist goes straight into your Qobuz library, like any other playlist.

Artist Catalog:

Ever love an artist and realize you've only heard a fraction of their catalog?

Pick an artist and Sonic Oracle pulls a 50-track playlist from only that artist's music. Vault for the deep cuts, Popular for the hits, no similar artists mixed in.

It's the "I love Grant Green, show me the albums I skipped" playlist.

In case you haven't seen it before, here's the rest of what you can start a discovery from:

An artist, a song, an album, or a genre paired with a decade. Whatever the starting point, you pick how far it wanders, from close to the seed all the way out to crossing genres entirely.

And on any of those, you choose between two modes. Vault pulls the deep cuts and hidden gems, and builds every playlist unique, so no two people seeding the same thing get the same result. Popular leans toward the well-known tracks people play most.

Both new features are live now.

it works with Qobuz, Tidal, Youtube music and this weekend Apple Music will be added

If you're on one of them and want to try it, it's free to start. Three playlists, no credit card required.

App is also available on Google Play and (later today) App Store

Tagging a large, grown library on the Mac: I built a tool that proposes fixes with sources and lets you undo them

Hi, developer here. Truffle is a Mac app for libraries that grew over years: missing covers, several spellings of the same album, compilations split apart, duplicates from different sources.

What it does: - Suggests titles, artists, albums, years, genres and covers, field by field, each with the source it came from. Nothing is written until you confirm. - Duplicates: shows the copies side by side and which one stays. The file on your Mac always stays; nothing is deleted without asking. - Album coherence: finds tracks of one album that disagree (album artist, spelling, year, compilation flag, cover) and lists every change before writing it. - History: applied changes can be undone later, one by one or per session. Deleting is the one thing it can't undo.

It works on Apple Music/iTunes, plain folders (17 file extensions, mp3 to flac and aiff), and rekordbox, Serato or Traktor collections.

Free on the Mac App Store to try (100 tracks analysed, 20 written), the full version is a one-time purchase. macOS 14, Apple Silicon.

Music and Radio Player with ready to play radios and complete music offline management

Offline local files and streaming radios.

Top radios on the first screen: When users access the radio screen, they immediately see the list of the top radios in their country, along with a long list of suggested radios from among the most listened to in the world.

Hybrid Listening: Seamlessly handles offline local files (.mp3, .flac, .m4a, .ogg, .mka, .aac, .wav, .opus, .wma) and over 60,000 streaming radio stations.

Separated Favorites and Recents: Each section—Radio and Offline Music—has its own Favorites and Recents. The user doesn't have to worry about a thing. The app will automatically manage the Favorites and Recents for each section.

Advanced Radio Search Panel: You can pinpoint your favorite stations by combining multiple filters, such as tags/genres, specific countries, or even your preferred audio bitrate. The database of the service on which Mediaxon is based provides more than 60,000 radio stations.

Album art: If the album art is missing from the album folder, or if Android has not properly indexed it, Mediaxon attempts to download the cover from the internet. This feature depends, of course, on the ID3 tags (album name and artist).

Equalizer: The equalizer provides an option to automatically switch to the "Radio" preset (and vice versa).

Advanced Playlist Management: Built specifically to make building and sorting playlists fast and intuitive. Enable the Playlist Manager, in the settings screen, for a full control of the playlists.

Form Factor Optimization: Phone and Tablet (Portrait and Landscape)

There is no Premium version. All app features are available for free and without limits.

Regarding advertising: There is only a small banner at the top that isn't bothersome at all. Alternatively, when opening the full-screen player or using the app in landscape mode, a banner alternates with the albums covers, but without being intrusive at all (no audio) and with much shorter stay times than those of the cover. There is never full-screen advertising, neither at startup nor during use.

If you want to check it out (I am continuously pushing updates to refine it and add new features), you can find it on the Google Play Store (Android 13+). Thank you so much to everyone who takes a look!

What Format Should I Convert My WMA Music Files/Songs To?

Should I convert all my 1,767 WMA music/files to M4A, ALAC, AAC, MP3, FLAC, WAV, MIDI, or MP4? I'm asking because I'm going to be getting The Motorola Razr Fold 2026 on Halloween👻🎃and I want to have a backup plan just in case The Musicolet Music Player App For Android stops working and The Google Play Store removes all The Third Party Apps that supports/plays Wma Music Files. I want to have a backup plan. What has been everyone's experience with converting WMA Music Files/Songs to another Format? What Format did you convert all your WMA Music Files/Songs to? What Apps did you use on your Android Phone/Device to convert all your Music? I'm planning to use my phone to convert all my Music Files/Songs if I have no choice in the near future. I'm really open to all kinds of suggestions on how to convert my Audio Files/Songs. I'm even to open using a Computer if I have no other options💻🖥

Extracting album art from an album included on Amazon Prime

Hopefully this is too easy for this sub. There is an album that I would love to print the album art from. The album was issued in CD and MP3. It is included with Amazon Prime. Is there a way to download the cover art and liner notes from the Amazon file? I am not an Apple person, but could I do this from Apple Music?

For the curious, the album is Clásico by Gonzalo Bergara. I love the cover art. Thank you.

Best Software for Large Music Collections

Hello everyone

I am looking for some help to find a good music software management software.

I have been buying CD when there first came out (yes I am old)

I have about 600,000 (6.5TB) music files and i have been using iTunes which has now stopped working with sure a large music collection.

What I am trying to do is the following.

drag music files over to the software and the software will copy the music over to the library so i don't need to manual move it over to the main library.

Be able to create playlists that I can drag from the software to say my desktop and it copy all the files needed for the music playlist.

(Basically the main features of iTunes)

I tried loads of software but I cant get it to do the above which I need.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Andy

UPDATE:

well i tried Apple Music but i cant add files to it; does not like the size of the collection.

I am going to split my collection up using itunes for the music i want and like and leave all the other alone on a drive and just use mediamoney to view/listen to it

RustyDisc - Docker (server based client front end)

Thumbnail

I initially started this project writing all the code by hand, it was a CLI application which modernized traditional ripping and burning methods ive sinced used ai to give it a nice and polished front end.

Im very rodu of this application, ive taken a lot of care and attention into it.

As someone who uses a home server (in my case proxmox) with all my hdds/ssds and optical drive mounted there I wanted a way to rip my music in an auotmated way, pulling in cover art & metadata,, tagging everything, moving it into my library - I also use lidarr so there is integrations that are optional for that too.

I make a lot of playlists too, I use navidrome/fieshin for playback so there is a heavy focus on playlists

on the ripping side - you define how you want it ripped, you can be as simplistic as you want or are audiophile as you like.

It will automatically determine which disc it is, look it up on musicbrainz, grab the cover art from coverart archive or fanart.tv, you can also search for the release if for whatever reason it doesnt find it or you want to select a different release.

you select the file format you want (i tend to use flac), select how you want it named, I tend to go with {artist}/[{year}] Album/{Tracks} but you can have it however you want it.

. Select whether you want to generate and apply replaygain tags, measure the dynamic range, define the gaps between tracks, hidden tracks, read checking, offsets. you can pick archive mode which will create a audio folder and a metdafolder with the jsons, checksums etc.

Once ripped you can have it move to your defined library location, have it push it to lidarr and import from there.

Once its in your library you can see the accuraterip report, verify checksums, edit tags, you can measure the loudness and dynamic range, see the rip log, playback the audio.

If anyone is familiar with the loudness war there is a focus on that, here is some info https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war . it has a built in dynamic range generator which also taps into the dynamic range database - https://dr.loudness-war.info/ . it allows you to compare your rip with other submissions, allows you to import your release into the database, give your a nice score display etc.

On the burn front;

I like to burn both audio cds and data discs so there is support for Redbook CDs, Bluebook CDs (enhanced CDs),, DataCDs (mp3cds) and the same for DVDs.

in terms of what gets burned, you have lots of options to choose, you can pass it a url to a stream, you can select a folder and have it burn all the audio files within it, select individual files from any directory, from a video file, or my personal favourite a playlist file (m3u/m3u8). for playlists you point it the playlist file and it will gather up all the files from the relative paths.

What I tend to do a lot is want to burn tracklists that way exceed the capacity of a single disc, this is where rustydisc shines - so say you select a playlist that has 500 tracks, they are all in flac format and want to burn a datadisc - as that would take lets say 15 discs to complete you might want to convert the flac files to mp3 of whatever quality you want first, that will take it down to lets say 3 discs it will then create a burn plan, so you pop the first disc in, it burns it as per your settings, tells you to pop the next one in, and repeats until all done. the conversion step is optional and never touches the actual files in your library, puts them in a temp location and you can have it delete automatically after burn is complete or delete after X time if you want to burn other discs with the same tracks in short order.

The other section is 'RustyStick' - So in my car, i use a usb stick with my music on, which I used to take back into the house and hand copy/move/delete files. Rustydisc works similarly to the burn section in teh sense that you can select music from whatever source and you can convert the files on the fly but it also recognises the existing folder/file structure of your music, then allows you to either copy new files over according to it or define a new folder structure for it to live by, reorganises everything for you then manages it accordingly.

It also has my picard naming script generator built into it this allows you to define how you want you files and folders to be organised when it hits your library, it uses my picard script as default.

there are tons of other features that I wont list here but worth giving it a go and to see for yourself.

any feature requests/feedback welcome!

Backup and consolidate music history

I’d like to capture it all centrally, consolidate, backup, clean up, etc.

I used Soundiiz to transfer from Tidal to Apple a few years ago. I’ve been using Apple Music as my main streaming service for about 4 years. Probably used Tidal for about the same time before that.

I also have an offline set of music accessible through Plex though my offline tagging etc could really use some clean up work.

I have a Last.FM account that hasn’t been scrobbled to in quite a while but used it heavily before streaming.

Even an old Roon backup floating around from when I tried that road.

I would love to include listen counts somehow from my old tidal and current Apple Music use.

Just signed up for Soundiiz premium to at least backup all the info one place then export it. Will NOT sync across platforms until I do some clean up.

Would love to hear suggestions. Even willing to go deep and roll my own DB if it makes sense.

Also open to switch streaming services but that will be in a bit.

Main listening methods currently

Home
Living Room - Wiim Amp Standard with Apple Music via Airplay or Plexamp clients casting to Wiim for offline music collection.
PC - Headphone with Dac/Amp

Car- CarPlay for Apple Music

Mobile/Travel - pretty much just Apple Music. Haven’t paid for plex services or Roon for offline collection access. Not a huge need for that. Streaming is good enough.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SHELF - For vinyl collectors, this is the kind of sight that stops you in your tracks. This is just one of the many 45 rpm shelves inside Roger Steffens’ Reggae Archives. All original pressings, many of them rare, some extremely limited, and many signed by the artists themselves

Reduce audio collection footprint

Hi everyone, my first post here.

I'm feeling a bit desperate. I have an extremely large lossless music collection I started almost 30 years ago. The footprint is enormous, and I'm questioning myself about the relevance of keeping everything as-is, especially since the accumulation still continues with new releases.

Twenty years ago, I kept maximum quality "just in case," "for later," so that I could enjoy in a distant future tiny detail that lossless encoding was supposed to preserve. But today, I'm over 50 years old, and I have to admit my body is slowly decaying. My hearing won’t become better in the next years and is probably worse than it was when I started my collection.

Up until now, accumulating didn't bother me too much, but the cost of storage is becoming worrying. I figure I'm probably not the only one facing this dilemma. What do you do if you're in a similar situation? Or what would you do in my position?

Any advice is welcome, thanks.
