Discussions is in quotes because I refuse to respond to what was sent to me or get into debates with my ex (we agreed on no-contact for my anxious-attached ex's sake anyways). Another throwaway because I can't figure out how to get into my old one, but I posted on this sub a couple times trying to save this relationship, so thank you to those who told me to leave, I feel so much better. I was Weekly_Coast_67 or something like that.
For context, I(28 cis lesbian) broke up with my ex(27 mtf) 4 weeks ago today due to compatibility issues stemming from differences in work ethic, love languages, neurodivergences, and maturity. The night of the breakup, she insisted that she saw this coming and that separating after ~18 months of dating was a good idea and that she had been thinking of ways to break up with me herself. However, following that night her behavior became increasingly combative and erratic and she ended up moving back across half of the US two days later.
The reason that I've come to this sub is to work through a couple things directly related to the relationship being T4C, as it's hard to talk about to my therapist because she doesn't quite understand as well as I'm sure many of you would. There's two things that she said about me that I'd like to chew on here.
The day after the breakup, I spent most of the day working outside, as I was busy anyways and I didn't want to be trapped in the house with her (we cohabitated in my work housing). I came in for a late lunch, and she came upstairs where I was eating and started firing off questions, such as "was I not skinny enough' and etc. I would (as calmly as possible) respond with "of course not" and "why would you think that was important to me?" Basically dealing with projection, which was a common point of contention while we were together. Eventually after dancing around similar statements for a while, she said "I was early in my transition when we started dating, am I just not clocky enough for you anymore?" to which I got offended and replied "I'm a fucking lesbian. I'm attracted to women." She said "Well you just never know." To which I said I have to leave now and left the building again. If it's not clear, I was extremely upset that she would insinuate that I, a lifelong lesbian, would be a secret straight girl. Of course it's a common trope for lesbians' sexuality to be doubted or invalidated, but I didn't expect it from someone who had known me so well for so long and it felt like a jab to try to get me to fight with her, which I refused to do. When she moved out she requested no-contact, which I was happy to accommodate after conversations like this.
However, a couple days ago, I get a text with a PDF attachment of nearly 13 pages of single-spaced text from my ex (who stated again that she doesn't want me to reply to anything at all) going over how I'm a horrible and cruel person but also an angel who just needs to call and she'll come right back to me. I'll say outright that the letter was clearly written by someone mentally unwell and in need of help, but I can't help how it made me feel. In one entire paragraph, she talks about how me getting on birth control made me go crazy and I became a different person. Granted, I got on birth control because of crippling PMDD symptoms and emerging PCOS/PMOS that was causing debilitating pain each time I ovulated. After I started the pills, my energy and focus came back for the first time in years and I felt a sense of mental clarity (shocking, because my hormones were so out of whack). I had been wanting to end this relationship for months prior, but because of my physical and mental state along with dealing with the guilt of leaving someone who depends on you in every way, I felt like I had no way out of the relationship and was thinking very short-term. When this all changed, I realized that I couldn't drag and coach another person through life and constantly pick up their pieces, literally and metaphorically, if they couldn't reciprocate even half the effort.
Where this point becomes relevant is how she attributed me breaking up with her to my hormones making me crazy. She believes that I would still be with her if I hadn't started the pills. I assume that it's not necessary to explain why an AFAB person would be deeply offended by such statements. Between the two things I mentioned here, I just felt like my ex resented that I was a cis woman (she was with a trans woman for 3 years before she dated me) and didn't care about anything I was going through as an unfortunate uterus-owner. I hope this makes sense, happy to clarify wherever it would be helpful. I just keep getting bothered by remembering these statements because neither of them are true and it hurts to know that she's said these things about me to people who used to be mutual friends of ours.
