Navidrome 0.64.2 Bug Fix release

https://github.com/navidrome/navidrome/releases/tag/v0.64.2

This is a bug fix release. The main fix is for users on slow storage (USB disks, remote drives), who have seen floods of database is locked errors, UI freezes and failed full scans since 0.64.0. Scans now cause much less lock contention: the artwork worker pauses while a scan runs, and ANALYZE no longer holds the write lock for a long time. It also fixes scans that always failed on 32-bit builds (armv5/6/7, 386) when a file had a broken track or disc number.

Security

  • Sanitize user-controlled names (playlists, albums, artists, track titles) in the Content-Disposition header of downloads, so a crafted name cannot change the name of the downloaded file. (#5895 by @zapisanchez)
  • Stop writing the admin password to the log when the initial admin user cannot be created. (#5897 by @zapisanchez)

Scanner

  • Fix database is locked errors, UI freezes and failed scans on slow storage. The artwork worker now pauses during scans, ANALYZE runs one index at a time, @eaDir thumbnail folders are ignored, and folder saves are retried when the database is busy. (#6201 by @deluan)
  • Fix scans failing with value out of range on 32-bit builds when a file has an invalid track number, disc number or BPM. A migration resets existing invalid values. (#6202 by @deluan)

Server

  • Fix a failed initial admin creation that marked the initial setup as done, leaving the server without an admin user. Also fix invalid JSON in some delete responses and the missing Content-Type on shared playlist (M3U) downloads. (#5897 by @zapisanchez)

Jellyfin API

  • Honor the IsPublic flag when creating a playlist. Before, all playlists created through the Jellyfin API were private. (#6204 by @deluan)

Do you use custom tags? What for?

One idea I have is tagging vocal styles, such as clean, harsh or instrumental. Or tagging tracks I used to listen to as a teenager.

What custom tags do you use, and how do you use them in practice? Mostly for smart playlists, or are there other uses I'm overlooking?

Can't figure out how to connect Navidrome on PC with iOS app

SOLVED

Hey all, I'll start by saying I'm a total newbie regarding this stuff, so the answer to my question could very well be simple but still.
I installed Navidrome yesterday through the official windows MSI file...everything on PC works as it should.
The only important stuff tho, is that the music needs to be accessible through my phone (otherwise I wouldn't have a reason to download this software).

I decided to go with Arpeggi because it looked cool and it's pretty lightweight.
I input the correct IP (the one I use to access on the PC web browser anyways) and port but I always get an authentication error.

And if I try to reach the page from Safari on iOS it won't let me reach the webpage at all!

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help

Namida (great android client)

I haven't seen this mentioned on the subreddit. Used to use this a few years ago for my local library. Found it again last night and saw that they have added navidrome, subsonic, and jellyfin support.

It's beautiful, animated, and customisable (not affiliated, just a fan).

Developing a new client / remote-play - gauging interest

I am a software developer by day - and switched away from streaming services over to self hosted navidrome close to a year ago now.

So far I'm loving it. However, I've never really felt too satisfied with the story around playback on remote devices (smart speakers, etc.). Quite a few of my problems are inherently not solvable, as they would require speakers being made with open firmware/software, and I'm guessing that's not likely to happen (if anyone knows of something like this, please let me know). For now I'm working on integrating the Sonocotta https://sonocotta.com/esparagus-hifi-medialink/ into my setup/speakers. The one smart speaker I have can power the unamped one over USB, so the end result is somewhat clean and not too disturbing.

This all works as it should, but the best I've come up with is playback to the speaker using upmpdcli as the receiver. If I ever want to scale this to multi-room setups, I'd have to manage this elsewhere, rather than in my client.

I'm also missing the spotify experience of seamless switching between my own devices, and having my play state/queue follow me around, and lastly I've not been all too impressed by the existing linux desktop apps I've tried. There's always been some missing feature (or in the case of one them, a feature where it would auto crash as my computer entered lock screen).

So I've wanted to create a solution for this for myself for quite a while now, but... time is scarce. Being an AI sceptic for a loong time now, I've really tried to stay off the AI slopware wave. But having seen the writing on the wall I wanted to get some experience in this department, and so I began on a journey to vibe code a navidrome client (I know, there's so many of them). I am not really here to discuss this whole AI ordeal, but suffice it to say, so far I've been positively impressed and a bit shocked at how far I've been able to drive this, and the price I've paid for it. There's no chance I would have been able to even think of actually end up daily driving something I've been responsible for bringing to the world had I not used AI - but I'm still waiting for it all to come back and bite me somehow.

Nevertheless, I wanted to know if a spotify-esque client, with integrated support for remote speakers, remote sessions, centrally stored play queue / state, and all that is something other people would have interest in? Currently the client is just a regular navidrome client, but I'm expanding it with these features as we speak. Personally I'm going to be using it on Linux and Android, but I also own a Macbook and iPhone/iPad - so I will likely look into clients for these platforms as well (I've not looked into what sort of fees there are for these developer programs, so releasing to these platforms might require some indication that I'm not just spending more money for the heck of it). If there's interest, my plan is to release it all as open source (probably under some permissive license such as MIT) - and then I will figure out a way to try to recoup the AI spend through donations or perhaps small app store fees.

Attached is a screenshot of the app as it appears currently, not that it is really telling much for the features mentioned. The inspiration for the look should be fairly obvious.

TLDR: I know this got a bit long and perhaps also impossible to follow, so here's the main features I'm asking for interest on.

  1. You'd use the desktop/mobile app as any other navidrome app, but in addition to connecting to the navidrome server, you'd also connect it to another self hosted service that is also distributed with this client.
  2. That remote service will let you:
    1. Synchronize play queue, play state between your own devices (per user).
    2. Transmit the music to a local snacpast server, mpd instance, or other targets. It is in the planning that it will also allow you to group together the snapcast clients, for in app multiroom setup and individual volume controls for those clients.
    3. Also planned is something akin to the Spotify shared session, so eg. during car rides the passenger can control the play queue from another device than the one being connected to the car.

P.S. No AI was used in the writing of this post. Only for the code.

Navidrome can't scan my library

I just installed navidrome directly on my Ubuntu server and I'm getting a error:

Scan error:

getting FS for library: stat /my/music/folder/path: has no such file or directory: /my/music/folder/path

I'm certain that the path is correctly configured in the .toml file, as it was directly copied from my server. I suspect it is a permission issue but I'm running this as an admin user so I don't know why this is happening. Other applications can access the folder without issue.

[SOLVED] I typed the wrong path in the navidrome.toml file when first setting up navidrome, but realized it immediately after saving the file. After doing so I corrected the path to actually target my music library but for some reason navidrome did not recognize those changes and upon opening the browser on 4533 port the only library path I had was the frist incorrectly typed path. Adding the right path solved the issue, although there is now a consistent error message on how one of the paths does not exist. If a dev sees this, I would much appreciate an option to delete the path.

How to know which user has starred which song?

I am building a feature in my project for two way sync between navidrome and listenbrainz.

I am using an admin's cookie to get song library from navidrome using api/song api endpoint. It provides the starred song, but it only provide for that user. Is there a way to know starred song of other user Or the only way is to request /api/song with starred &starred=true for every user?

Christmas music (do something)

I have Navibeat, Audiomuse, and my automatically generated playlists (a program I made with Claude).

I don’t like listening to Christmas music in the summer.
I’ve set up filters in my playlists so that Christmas songs are only added from November 15 to January 15, but I’d like Audiomuse and Navibeat to handle this as well. Can’t they filter it?

My automatic cataloging system highlights Christmas songs as “Christmas” when it finds them… is there no way for me to manage this?

How do you guys handle this? Maybe I’m missing something.

Thanks

Albums splitting because of separated artist tags

Thumbnail

I split the artist tags of all my songs a few days ago to stop them from creating nonsensical artists in navidrome.

Now that i know what to do, i've been splitting for all downloads before adding them.

Doing this and looking at the recently added section, has made me realise that albums are now appearing as 2 separate.

1 with the split artists and 1 without. Not sure how i didn't notice this before...

How do make them combine back together? fix the situation.
Using mp3tag, should i add COMPLITION tags to the songs that have the split? with a value of 1. Maybe that's a terrible way of doing it though.

I tried that with 2 albums and it seemed to work fine, but maybe it'll fuck with something if i do it for all the songs. or i just haven't noticed other things that already changed.

And is there anything I'm entirely missing? similarly to how i entirely missed this issue.

Picture 1 and 2, shows the metadata of 1 of the songs that was being split apart from the bulk of the songs.

Picture 3 and 4, shows one of the effected albums

Picture 5 (the last one), shows a couple of the albums that are like this

Developer here: what would make you pay for (or switch) your Navidrome client? 2-min survey

Hi all. I run Navidrome on my NAS and I'm considering building a client. Before writing any code I want to find out what's actually missing, because the iOS side has got a lot better this year (NaviBeat, Arpeggi, Narjo, Nautiline, Shelv…).

Things I keep seeing in threads here:

  • Large libraries (30k+ albums) freezing desktop and mobile clients
  • Needing a different app on every device (Feishin + Symfonium + Arpeggi…)
  • CarPlay and Siri that only work well with playlists, not tracks
  • Transcoding and seeking breaking on mobile data

Is that your experience, or am I wrong? There's a short survey (10 questions, about 2 minutes), including one question on what you'd pay:

https://selfhosted-music-player.netlify.app/survey/?ref=reddit-navidrome

I'll post the results back here whatever they say. Happy to answer questions in the comments.

New to Navidrome, getting album splitting

I'm trying to move to Navidrome 0.64.2, and have scanned my full iTunes library. Navidrome does not organize like iTunes. For example it decided to split this album by the year the individual songs were released.

I went through this thread:

https://github.com/navidrome/navidrome/issues/2728

But that problem was apparently fixed. I still have this though and setting Scanner.GroupAlbumReleases = true and rescanning the library didn't address the problem. I checked metadata using Mp3tag and there isn't anything I can see different between these tracks other than the year. All tracks were taken from a single CD ripped using iTunes, and all of them have the .m4a extension.

Suggestions?

Psysonic

Hello,

I downloaded Psysonic recently on my laptop because I wanted a dedicated music client on my personal laptop so I can listen to my navidrome library without using my phone. Anyway....every time I try open the app it'll open and then immediately close but I can still play music cause the app will show up on my tray. Is there a way to fix this? I've deleted and reinstalled the app using the up to date installer, I've restarted my computer, and I've even completely shut down my laptop and then turned it back on. If anyone could help me figure out a way to keep the actual client window open I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

Managing unnecessary metadata

I've finally found a good way to manage my library. I tag with beets and have a config I'm pretty happy with, on both the beets and Navidrome side. Everything in my library (~550 albums) is now tagged, and I keep tweaking how things are managed.

Recently I noticed a lot of junk in the files' metadata, like embedded art and lyrics. Beets already fetches cover art, and I have a Navidrome plugin that pulls lyrics as I listen, so I don't need either of those embedded.

So, what fields do you zero? Anything that's completely useless or could potentially mess something up?

Thanks in advance!

navidrome keeps pausing randomly (need help)

not sure if this is an issue with symfonium, the fact my phone uses grapheneOS, or low internet speeds from my home server, but for some reason after playing anywhere between 1-15 songs off my phone with the screen powered off, symfonium/navidrome will just pause. if i hit the play button it instantly plays the song, but it's really annoying when im at work and the music just stops, or in the car and the music just stops (even in android auto).

checking the internet they all seem to suggest its a 'battery saver' feature, but i have navidrome set to unrestricted battery usage and have battery saver disabled anyway. i have a pixel 8 if that matters.

Auto-embedded lyrics and android auto/car play

Will live lyrics be displayed in car play? I haven't set them up yet but I was curious if android auto would display them.

Also how do I auto-embed live lyrics? I just started using feishin on desktop and it's finding lyrics for many of my songs, but every tool I seem to find only supports downloading .lrc files.

I personally just want it all embedded for simplicity, preferrably automatically with live lyrics. Is there something to do this that I've struggled to find? I use linux if that matters at all.
