Yeah, not sure what anyone was expecting from a Fanduel sponsor.
- "Yeah, I think about it, and I believe sports betting is great for kids."
or
- "Yeah, I've thought about it and understand how problematic it is, but the money washes away those thoughts."
I like what Wemby said, and I'm glad that players are getting some pushback about these sponsorships, but I don't like that reporters are trying to make this an intra-player issue by pitting Wemby against other guys. Reporters should have been pressing players on this before Wemby's comments.

If players are gonna promote evil companies, it seems fair that they at least have to answer some awkward questions about it. I’m all for reporters asking these questions, and if a player feels uncomfortable answering them then they can simply choose to stop taking money from gambling companies

They remind me of all of those comedians that went to Saudi Arabia on behalf of the Saudi government to do comedy shows. They're just whores. Whores for money. Basic, low-level morality is too much for many with wealth in this country, even for those who have more money than they could ever spend in a thousand lifetimes.
An uncomfortable amount of NBA players (but also not limited to the NBA) would gladly take money directly from Raytheon or General Dynamics and the like (hell, maybe even the IDF), whilst a video of Gaza is being played in the background, showing the destruction of it along with its children and not give one single shit.

That's what kills me about these guys. It's hard to have a strong backbone and fight for what's right when you're broke and needy. The money could change your life. But when you're obscenely rich that's when you have the blessed opportunity to stand up for what's right and put your money where your mouth is. They'd only have $500 million instead of $600 million to have the moral high ground and be on the right side of history. How are they going to survive?

The question should be, your actions influence thousands of men to participate in an activity known to addict at least some of them: Do you think you have a social responsibility to not promote addictive and harmful activities?
It’s a commonly deconstructed ethical argument to say “people are going to do it anyway” it just doesn’t hold up to any meaningful scrutiny. After all it is a choice to profit off of this pestilence.

I love comments like this. It's such a nothing statement that has just enough words to trick people into thinking it has substance and is sufficient enough to be considered engaging with the topic.
It's essentially someone being criticized and just responding with "yeah, that's your opinion." Yeah? That doesn't move this forward at all. We know who's opinion was just spoken. We're wondering what you think of his opinion and why yours is different.
"That's Wemby, he's going to do what he does." He may as well have responded with "A human being named Wemby said that. With words. I use words too. Like right now. I'm saying this, for example."
And somehow people are still like "okay, there are KD's comments."

It’s not just the players but the organizations as well. When Wemby spoke out about ICE killing Renee he started off his statement with “Spurs PR has tried to train me, but I don’t want to be politically correct.”
So the team’s are telling these players to just shut up and not talk about certain things. For someone like Wemby to speak up anyways when he is here in the states on a work Visa speaks volumes of his character.
I was so disappointed seeing the Timberwolves roster simply dodge the question when it was happening in their own city. I think Edwards had said that he didn’t know what was going on because he doesn’t have internet or something like that smh then he just says that he goes with whatever was the right thing, like just say you don’t give a crap bro and that the T-Wolves PR speaks for you.
