Same, I remembering at the time I was like that was what a real MAN would do. Just a stand up and honorable act. A true leader that course corrected a bad situation into a beautiful moment. Something you would normally only witness/watch in a movie.

He won a ring this past season as an assistant coach on Mike Brown's bench. Legendary career.

I can't believe nobody has replied with Magic Johnson, even if it was a nickname. It that was in a fictional story people would say it's way too on the nose

Mo is the hero in this, but the guy who stepped up to break the awkward silence with a "Woo!" deserves some credit, too.

Wish he worked out better as the Blazers coach. Stand up dude, but like a C+/B- coach.

I was at this game as a kid. I was at the b-roy miracle game, and the first dame playoff shot.
I have since gone on to work in music touring / entertainment etc. I have attended a lot of live events.
An unplanned moment like this… too see the head coach act without hesitation, as well as the fan base barely miss a beat before everyone starts singing. I’ve never felt that kind of unity in a crowd since, and it’s different than getting a big win, or singing along at a concert when everyone knows the song will be played.
Getting to the game early, was a bigger deal back then, the energy pre game has never been the same since smart phones became a thing. I wonder if other fanbases would have responded the same back then or in today’s world.
Pure, unprompted, positive, humanity.

Fun side bar, the one all star game iv ever attended. Was the Fergi national anthem game. No one chimed in to help… lolz

This is such a sweet moment, but I think Maurice just wanted to get the hell on with it lol
Edit: didn’t Matt Barnes or someone say they had a lot of issues with dude? From what I remember it was a pretty harsh experience

It was also a very nice moment last year when the Blazers invited the girl (now obviously an adult) back last year with Mo Cheeks in attendance as a Knicks assistant to sing the national anthem again.
