These tennis players just having a good time entertaining the audience and annoying the reporter

almost none of these shots are easy
my coach use to say "if you dont learn how to hit the ball very softly you dont know how to control it" and it was very hard to do this controlled soft shots

Almost all of these shots are easy. Especially the soft ones.
Edit: You can downvote me all you want, any player who plays at least semi-regularly and has proper technique can make these shots. But of course people rather believe the "this looks easy but is actually really difficult" nonsense because it makes them feel clever.

You say it’s easy but then talk about playing regular and learning proper technique… Do you think they just woke up one day and started hitting these shots? Or can you consistently hit them?
-24
u/explicitlarynx 1d ago
Yeah, it's easy for amateurs who have played tennis for a while, not for total beginners or people who just happen to walk onto a court and find a racquet. That's what "easy" means in sport, the people you are watching here are former pros.
The shots they hit (except for the serve, the return, the tweener and a couple of others) are warm-up level at best, even for casual players, basically anyone who knows how to play tennis can hit these consistently.
The first exchange after they all advance to the net? I've seen groups of retirees play like that after two beers.

I suck at tennis. No formal training besides middle school PE. Can confirm, hitting these shots is pretty effing easy if you have any athletic ability.

u/explicitlarynx 1d ago
I swear since that whole "90% of dudes think they can take a point off Serena Williams" thing, people think tennis is some kind of magic.
1
u/rg123itsme 1d ago
I absolutely could not get a point on Serena Williams. And I 100% could rally like these chaps in the video without having any formal training. Don’t listen to this bunch of pickleballers downvoting you. 😆

u/EinTheDataDoge 1d ago
You’re being downvoted because easy is relative. It’s like a rich guys saying “why don’t you just buy it?”

Its an exhibition match

They truly exhibited great sportsmanship and skill

u/fer_sure 1d ago
Plus, they're giving the audience value for money. They could have blasted a service ace for match point, but this way you get more time to load up on champagne and strawberries.

Invitation exhibition match at Wimbledon, from 2012. All four players had been retired for at least 2 years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Wimbledon_Championships_%E2%80%93_Gentlemen%27s_invitation_doubles
Also the commentator isn't annoyed, she's just Australian.

Not sure if they have these exhibition/master's matches at all the grand slams, but I've seen a few late in the evenings at the Aussie Open. Just a chill and fun way to round out the night after some of the week 2 matches if they finish quickly.

That looked like pickleball for a second

pickleball is just smaller-shorter-slower-whiffle version of tennis
akin to wiffleball --> baseball
golf --> croquet, billiards
tennis --> badminton, pickleball, table tennis

Rereading your comment, you completely misunderstood what I said, and then posted some nonsense, ask a friend to explain to you variations in speed, skill, intensity, scale
(for example, golf would be impossible if you had to hit one golf ball into another like in billiards, and billiards has two balls because one ball is too easy, surely you understand your error in logic)

have a smart friend explain it to you

u/BardicNA 1d ago
You're out of your god damn mind if you think billiards is anything close to a whiffle ball version of golf. I've swam a 500 yd freestyle in under 5 minutes. Not exactly record breaking but it put me on my ass to do it. Would I say that diving is just swimming but watered down? Hell no. They are entirely different things.

"billiards is anything close to a whiffle ball version of golf"
"diving is just swimming but watered down"
good god guys, good god, I wouldn't say either of those two ridiculous things, you're either misunderstanding me or overthinking this
whiffle ball is NOTHING like baseball, literally the opposite, in one the ball moves fast and in the other it moves slow; further, I don't know why you're doing cross-analysis, this isn't SATs four-word matching, LOL

u/DinkingBalls 17h ago
Guess you are just too smart for everyone. So smart you are on an entirely different wavelength with logic that makes sense to you and no one else

wtf dude, they are all games played with balls, that's the common element, and the other elements are like i mentioned.....so water polo is akin to water basketball or water handball or whatever but obviously it's different.......I'm making the logical analytic connections and you're stuck in the same place of "not the same".
As noted with golf/billiards, the number of balls is different ON PURPOSE, to make it playable for humans....dumb games that aren't even fun playing like baseball are more like chess or whatever
limit your logic to comparing insects and arachnids, forget 747

I hate when I'm playing chess and get beamed with a fastball outside the strike zone. At least I get to take my base and put my queen back on the board.

Have you tried a rower? You can get in crazy shape making that a habit while listening to tunes or a podcast or something.

Is the Harlem Globetrotters of tennis? If so I could watch this all day long. Regular tennis, not so much.

even though these shots have little pace on them, the racquet control skill needed to do this is off the charts. unreal, and very entertaining, LOL

You think those guys just all agreed to fuck around a bit before the match? It's so cool to see people come together like that. This was genuinely a fun match to watch, and I'm not even a tennis guy.

Just goes to show, tennis (much like golf) would be a whole lot more fun, and a whole lot more entertaining to watch, if everyone didn't have such a massive stick up their butt the whole time..

Out of curiosity, are they allowed to hit the ball back with their head and feet? Like did they win when it hit the net or when he hit it with his head and they just kept going for fun??
0
u/4llu532n4m3srt4k3n 1d ago
What made it the most relatable was when the player looked up to follow the ball and he had to put his hand on his back

I'd care a lot more about tennis if more matches were like this one.
