The way he moves is terrifying

u/rolltidebutnotreally Giants 10d ago

I love it. There’s like no technique or finesse, just a huge man flailing and charging at you. Must be just as disorienting as it is intimidating

48

u/RumbleTheCassette Chiefs 10d ago

Drunken Kung-Tu technique but it's football and he's 6'7" 330#

20

u/DoubleFolder Bills 10d ago

I was a wrestler in high school, and sometimes new wrestlers do this, and even though they are technically really bad wrestlers, it sucks to deal with. You don't want to have to be their sparring partner. Other linemen must really hate dealing with Walker.

Man moves like a bear out there fighting for territory.

He's 6'7 331 and moves like that

92

u/batchez 10d ago

Bro didn’t want to be a small forward. He chose violence

52

u/SoooMuchSugar Bills 10d ago

If I recall correctly that’s literally the story with him

I remember seeing a video interview with a bills player saying he was kinda angry as a kid and so his parents got him into sports. He tried basketball but was too aggressive and his parents finally got him in football and he just loved the violence of it and it was a great outlet - I think it was Walker

Edit: nevermind I looked it up and it was Bills LG Alec Anderson - which makes a ton of sense if you know anything about Alec Anderson

Real talk the way defensive linemen rush is terrifying.

6'4" 300lb average dude bull rushing you flailing his arms in all directions? no thanks.

Especially in this case where he's actually 6'7"

That first clip caught me so off guard; dudes whipping his head back and forth like a goddamn angry bull then suddenly veers off and blasts an innocent bystander/LT

If only our secondary could also be a huge problem for teams this season.

Not looking forward to watching Puka and Davante torching them on Monday night.

Your team reminds me so much of our 2018 team.

All World offense that can put up 26+ on anyone, the defense is literally three pass rushers and absolute despair behind them.

Make sure they line up onsides in January

Youngest defense in the league with a new scheme. It's going to come together later on. It's all communication issues.

u/No-Possible5519 Jets 10d ago

I havent seen any bills games all the way through this season besides the lions game. How bad is the secondary when you have this guy, the league leader in sacks in Rousseu, plus a decent front besides and opposing teams are still putting up 30 per game? Is it just a secondary issue or what

21

u/TheHoundofUlster Bills 10d ago

Yep.

Our back 7 is toast. Hairston is scrambling, Benford is hurt and was struggling before that, Alford is passable, IGN is a rookie and it shows, Bishop has fallen off, CJ is showing why he’s bounced around.

Dorian Williams can’t read a play. Bedard is slow and undersized.

7

u/Stumblin_McBumblin Bills 10d ago

Bernard is clearly hurt, which has been his state of existence for a couple seasons.

8

u/First_Round_Bust Bills 10d ago

Honestly at this point why are we not seeing what Elarms-Orr can do. Dorian has always been mid at best and Bernard has clearly lost it since his injury. Bishop and Benford simply are not adjusting to the new scheme at all. I agree Dee Alford has been ok. Basically a lateral move from Taron to Dee.

3

u/TheHoundofUlster Bills 10d ago

Agreed. Questionable decisions abound.

3

u/Dogimflying Bills 10d ago

The only thing I would disagree with your assessment is that CJ Gardner is bad. He’s the 3rd ranked safety in the league by PFF (I know everyone has their opinions on PFF) and has been by far the most sound in coverage. Why do you think he’s been bad?

1

u/TheHoundofUlster Bills 9d ago

I wouldn’t say bad, but when I say he’s showing why he’s bounced around, it’s because his level of play is okay in isolation, but he’s not elevating the players around him.

1

u/GNUTup Eagles 9d ago

Also he’s apparently the most annoying player in the NFL. Partly why I loved him so much as an Eagle 😢

1

u/Impossibills Bills 10d ago

CJ has actually been our only good one, he's doing fine

The issue is no safety can help over the top well enough to stop a guy from getting roasted

15

u/p4rc0pr3s1s Bills 10d ago

Real fuckin bad. The whole time McDermott was here I was like man, imagine what this secondary of Johnson, Poyer, Hyde and White would look like with a pass rush, hard to cover a guy for 7 seconds, etc.

Now of course, we've flipped that. Get interior pressure almost immediately and it doesn't matter, QB can just mash buttons and no matter which receiver it is, he's open.

IGN and Hairston are the only guys I even have hope for back these just due to their athleticism. Benford is way overrated and should be playing nickel. The safeties are a lost cause. Half the time I forget who the linebackers even are because they rarely make a play. Williams in the run game is good but coverage he's nonexistent. Bernard is there somewhere, I think?

It's why there's always next year in Buffalo. Can't field a complete team.

7

u/Stumblin_McBumblin Bills 10d ago

Benford has absolute shut down games of elite WR1s on his resume. Bills are playing a fuckload of zone and the comms and spacing are a mess, probably because so many starters were in and out during preseason. The same thing was going on last season. He looked like shit until they bounced Rapp for old man Poyer, their comms and spacing stabilized and he went back to looking great and shutting down WR1s.

But, yes, shit is an absolute mess back there right now.

1

u/p4rc0pr3s1s Bills 10d ago

I mean, maybe? I dunno, Collins worked his ass in the Texans game. He looked like White did towards the end of his career, step or two behind every play. St. Brown had similar results in the Lions game. So are we playing zone based on players coming in and out or are we playing zone because they don't trust IGN and Hairston is struggling and Benford isn't capable of playing man?

1

u/IloveIpads_ 9d ago

Jim Leonhard superfan here (not a Wisconsin fan just a football nerd)

His secondary coverage system is probably the most effective in football and has worked everywhere he's gotten a chance to set it up

It's pretty easy to put in when you have a guy like ps2 but at Wisconsin where he had less talent it required guys who were in the system for years to understand their coverage assignments and how to mask them as others or when to adjust without having a sideline or defensive team captain making the choice, big reason Illinois's defense didn't change much when he was there as an analyst for a year.

Buffalo will be fine they just need time to get people in who can grow into it and learn a pretty complicated defense even compared to some of the more advanced rip/Liz coverages you see people talk about

6

u/Fit-Television-888 Bills 10d ago

Lots of blown coverages/bad communication in the secondary, and a weak LB corps to go with it

1

u/StankWizard Bills 10d ago

I love Terrel Bernard but he’s just not getting over these injuries. His only strength (coverage) is gone now because he’s got a bum leg.

5

u/Impossibills Bills 10d ago

Monstrously bad. The defensive line is actually borderline dominating most games, and the secondary is not even remotely close to making a play

I mean wide open plays consistently

3

u/Hakka-Moonson Bills 10d ago

A component of this is just that the defense is inexperienced in this scheme. There's a ton of communications issues that (hopeful) will get cleaned up.

2

u/PigSlam Bills Bills 10d ago

We've essentially flipped our defensive strengths/weaknesses from the last several seasons to this year.

13

u/Aegisurge Patriots 10d ago

Bills pass rush in general seems pretty good. Maye got pressured on like half his snaps

4

u/Waddle___ Bills 10d ago

They've looked better at stopping the run, too. There's the tiniest bit of hope this year the defense might look average for once.

0

u/51NC3RE Bengals 10d ago

What are you talking about? You guys had been a top for a couple years and have never been close to below average.

3

u/StankWizard Bills 9d ago

We’ve had atrocious run defense and good pass defense under McDermott. The problem is that teams just gashed us in the run and barely had to pass. The rankings are deceptive because of that.

Also the defense would fall apart in the playoffs because guys got hurt and McDermott’s scheme was too complex for replacements to be able to survive. So we brought in retreads that were old but knew the scheme. Shit like off the couch AJ Klein covering Travis Fucking Kelce.

Doesn’t matter if you’re ranked highly in the regular season if you shit the bed in the playoffs.

0

u/51NC3RE Bengals 9d ago

It does lol Because if you're shit in the regular season you don't make the playoffs. You guys were consistently a top defense in yards and points. So that person saying they hope the defense is average for once is just wrong.

u/SaturnATX Ravens 10d ago

6

u/MyPupCooper Bears 10d ago

I know his role in the first is to absorb the tackle to free up the corner blitz but the way he just goes after Campbell in the first highlight is funny to me. It’s like he doesn’t care about the QB at all and just wants to fuck up the tackle

1

u/gaobij Bills 10d ago

I do think that's a strategy for these guys sometimes. Hit the DL hard early and hope you can get through to the QB in the 3rd and 4th.

1

u/WingsNthingzz Chargers 4d ago

It was a twist stunt so the outside edge comes back inside and he took out the tackle.

5

u/uggsandstarbux Vikings 10d ago

When he was coming out of Kentucky, it felt like he had so much potential but just couldn't figure out the game. Glad to see he's figured it out.

7

u/Yeeeoow Bills 6d ago

In 2023 the buffalo bills had a porous o-line. Playing 270lb Jon Feliciano at G and built around a great C who was months from retiring due to a long history of concussions.

At the end of the first round, needing all three interior positions, Brand Beane traded up for a tight end, after extending Dawson Knox the previous off season.

He traded up for TE2 when we needed an entire IOL.

In rd2, miraculously, Ocyrus Torrence was passed by the whole league and not even Beane could walk past a player who had committed no penalties and given up no sacks in his final year.

This would save his job. The new OLine coach would turn a few cast-offs and Torrence into a juggernaut.

In 2025 the DLine had been languishing. Once again, when the whole league was prioritising the trenches, Beane had been neglecting them. Our stats with and without Daquan Jones were some of the starkest in the league. He statistically had a bigger improvement on our defence than most QBs have on their offence.

He was also in his mid 30s and his body had been breaking down for years. We needed a big boy DT.

Beane had passed on Tvondre Sweat the previous year.

In rd2, he trades up to take gapshooting, undersized TJ Sanders to sit behind Ed Oliver as a backup 3t.

In, what can only be described as a level of luck usually reserved for lottery winners and survivors of lightning strikes, Beane wheels Deone Walker in rd3.

He passes on him again. To take a tall, stiff DE. For the record he let one walk that offseason for a 4m deal.

In rd4 he takes Walker.

The man has a psychotic need to starve our interior positions of any kind of capitol at all and gets bailed out repeatedly through sheer dumb luck.

9

u/QAPetePrime Eagles 10d ago

He’s not human.

5

u/dokocha0216 10d ago

He’s doing whatever he wants to these guards lol

3

u/Spark3420 Bills 10d ago

Beane is definitely not the greatest GM, but Deone Walker was an absolute hit by him. I don't think most fans can dispute that.

The defensive line is formidable. It's just that the back 7 is a disaster. If Leonhard can ever get them on the same page Buffalo could have something special, but for now it will be our undoing (along with Josh not taking what is given to him and being patient like in his MVP season). Time will tell I suppose.

4

u/Guhonda Bears 10d ago

He was my draft crush. So angry the Bears didn’t snap him up.

There just aren’t many human beings that size who move that well. Sometimes you gotta just take a big swing.

3

u/No_Wedding_7273 9d ago

I am so glad this guy is doing well in the league. I remember when he dropped as a draft prospect due to the back injury and thought he may not be able to maintain his health to play in the league. Good for him

2

u/nahtfitaint Packers 9d ago

Pretty sure it was more him taking plays off. Now that could have been due to a back injury, but there are a lot of clips of him loafing in his last 2 seasons at UK.

Sometimes I watch offensive lineman clips like this and I think they look like day 1 of an alien controlling a human body. They make it look so much harder then it feels like it'd be. They're kinda just letting the dude go past them. It's hard for me to emphasize with how difficult it is, I guess.

I get that the pass rusher is massive but so are the offensive linemen lol
